If you want some Venetian music to listen to while in Venice, check out Rondo Veneziano. They are an Italian chamber orchestra, specializing in Baroque music, playing original instruments, but incorporating a rock-style rhythm section of synthesizer, bass guitar and drums. And they are known for wearing Baroque clothes during their tours.

There best known song is La Serenissima: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ej_wRgBS5lI

And a live performance: Fantasia Veneziana

Hey Canis! You might try New Orleans... it is a MUST if you love music! Preservation Hall is a classic little hole in the wall to hear some New Orleans Jazz, and it doesn't cost too much (though unless you get there early, standing room only for the first half til the break!)

Also since you are willing to splurge for a little bit, try Breakfast at Brennan's... very famous (but super expensive) restaurant. If you get a reservation, you'll also have better service. When I went, we were in a smaller side room because of our reservation, and the waiter was there the whole time for us (and a couple other tables), but he also knew to stand out of the way enough that we in no way felt that he was crowding in on us.
