A WHEEL OF TIME COMMUNITY

The Ogier Sanctuary

I guess this topic is for idle speculation only unless there is information about this time that I dont know of.

During the time of madness the ogier let the male aes sedai use their steddings as a sanctuary. According to moiraine there are different opinions if this was a good thing or not. Some considered it to prolonged the breaking causing more and unecessary damage. While others, like Moiraine, considered to have saved the world from complete destruction if all men had gone insane at once. Should we take Moiraine's opinion as the truth here or can we form our own thoughts and ideas?

I dont quite know the number of male channelers at this time and I doubt Moiraine does aswell. It should require a fair amount of channelers to rip apart the entire world. I guess we simply know too little to make a good picture of it all, but like I said...speculate.

Anyway, what do you guys think? Which opinion do you side with?

I am not sure if there could be another possibility than the opinions Moiraine mentioned.

It might have been probable that the whole world would have been ripped apart since the channelers of the Age of Legends were supposedly the strongest channelers of all time and supposedly there were many male channelers during the Breaking.

I can see how both opinions would be formed, at least for me.  On one hand, if all the male AS had gone insane at once, it is possible that the Breaking would not have lasted as long.  It would just be a big explosion, then nothing.  So by providing a sanctuary for some of the AS, the Ogier caused the breaking to last longer b/c they created a time delayed explosion.

However, had all the male AS gone insane at once they could have possibly destroyed everything, instead of just "breaking" it.  While this caused the Breaking to last longer, it also possibly saved everything.

I agree more with Moiraine's opinion.

Just look at what LTT did by himself.  Yes, he was one of the strongest channelers, but imagine several similar events happening all over the place.

Had they all gone insane at once there wouldn't have been a safe place anywhere in the world. Since it was prolonged it gave people a fighting chance to run away. Think of that flashback scene in Rhuidean (or was it something in the BWB?) where the Aes Sedai were saying they don't have much time, [male channeler name] is on his way and will be there soon.

Which brings up another question.. did the guy just not know traveling? It also suggests this guy was much stronger than the other Aes Sedai, or else they could have dealt with him when he arrived. Either way, had another madman been there they wouldn't have had that chance to do what they did and get away.

I've also wondered how they were able to plot the course of the two (not one) male Aes Sedai--Haindar and Jaric Mondoran. Were these guys walking, or had they sent their Breaking itinerary on ahead of them or something? Was it like a big concert promotion-- 100 Companions: the Rorn M'Doi Destruction Tour with dates and venues listed? Anyway, Mondoran destroyed Tsora (sp?), a major city at the time, reducing it in one blow to a sheet of glass. That makes me think he had a sa'angreal, and that might be why the Aes Sedai didn't choose to face him. If he can level a major city in one blast...

Hmm, I always took these guys to be the still sane male channelers that helped create the eye of the world. If i remember right the female Aides Sadie says something like _______ (guys name) and the other young male channelers will be arriving soon. She does not necessarily know how he is coming but possibly a time and date had been agreed upon.

They have both conversations, about two different sets of male channelers: one with which they intend to create the Eye (likely another reason they did not stay to face the two madmen--priorities might have demanded that they focus on the Eye), and the two coming to destroy Paaren Disen.
