Dream protection from DO

I'm re-reading tEoTW right now, and I'm at the part where everyone reunites in Caemlyn and Moraine finally finds out about the dreams. Perrin says something like "I guess I found my protection" (meaning the wolves are protecting his dreams) and she agrees.

It made me remember that they made a big deal about Rand warding his dreams after Asmo teaches him. Thought it was interesting that the DO doesn't bother anyone in dreams much after this, probly because he now knows which of the three the Dragon Reborn is. Still, I'd mess with the good guys as much as I could if I were the DO.

Forgive me, my thoughts are kinda mangled and there might be reverse logic here,(That's why I'm posting, to figure it out :) but Perrin has his protection, Rand has his wards, Does that mean that Mat's protection is his fox head medallion? If so, does the Dark One actually use the power?

Yup, Mats medallion protects his dreams. A side effect that he according to RJ is not actually aware of. Of course, when Mat got his medallion, the Shadow already knew which one of the three that was the Dragon Reborn, so he would probably not have been such a target as Rand was. Though, important enough to need the protection.

And btw, the DO never bothered any of the three in their dreams, it was Ishy all along, and later on Lanfear once she found out that Rand was her beloved LTT reborn.

As for why their dreams are unbothered afterwards, that is the meaning of protection:)

First, it's Ba'alzamon (Ishamael), not the DO.  Presumably, he either is a dreamwalker or has a ter'angreal that allows access to the dreams of others.

RJ said in Question of the Week that dream protection is a side effect of Mat's foxhead medallion (a true side effect, unintended by the makers).

Lol, dang, I've lost it...I totally knew it was Ishy, can't believe I missed that! :) Thanks for the question answered by RJ, that's what I was looking for I guess. So yeah, now that I've been reminded that it was a Forsaken, Does anyone really know what kind of power the DO uses? I guess he does manipulate the pattern, but I still can't see him on the same level as the Creator.

I do not think the reason was to find out who the Dragon Reborn was, but to turn each 3 of them over to the shadow.

I am not sure if Mat's medallion would protect him from someone else entering his dreams since Dreamwalking is a non-channeling thing; and since Mat cannot ward his dreams nor are they warded by some channeler.

Ba'alzamon treats all three of them as if they were the Dragon Reborn, to cross-reference their stories, trying to find out which of them is the DR. So yes he was trying to figure it out, and yes, he wanted them turned to the shadow, but mainly the DR so he could make him a Dreadlord.

Week 7 Question: Since the first few books, Rand's and Perrin's dreams have been protected. Rand can weave a ward around his dreams. Perrin being a wolfbrother has protected his dreams. How have Mat's dreams been protected since the first half of the series?

Robert Jordan Answers: A side effect of his foxhead medallion, though he doesn't know it. This was not part of the intended purpose of making the medallion; it's a true side effect.

If Perrin found his protection from Wolfbrother, how did Ishamael kill a enter his dream at the Tinker camp and kill a wolf and though we see it from Rand's POV doesn't he do something similar in Caemlyn?  Lanfear enters Perrin's dreams well after he is a wolfbrother, seems like if he has protection it isn't very good.  Also Lanfear does tell rand she could break his wards but she doesn't because it would leave him a vegatable.

General TAR question that Taveren finding trick that ishamael and Lanfear have where does it say about that?  I would guess the BWB?  Thanks

Perrin may be shielded from someone entering his dreams, but that doesn't stop anyone from entering Tel'aran'rhiod. Maybe Ishamael killed the wolf in Tel'aran'rhiod?
