Lan's appearance.

I was always a fan of the cartoon Mighty Max when I was a kid (11 or 12yr old), and I remember it actually aired not too much before WoT.  Anyways ever since I picked up book one all those years ago, and to this day I always picture lan to look like this guy.

 

Go to about 15 seconds in and you will know what I mean.

I always thought that Lan was Stone-Faced.  Maybe I have a weird perspective of stone faced, but that guy seemed to be smiling, whereas Lans emotions are supposedly impossible to read.  Aside from that yeah, I can see it.  Big guy, big shoulders.  Yeah.  Could be Lan.

Lan would be broadshouldered from having praciced with a sword pretty much every day for most of his life.

That guy has the broad shoulders of a guy whose muscles comes from an unhealthy combination of gym and steroids. Had Lan been built like that he would have been chopped to pieces by the first myrdraal he faced, because he would be too heavy to be able to move like a swordsman needs.

OH MY GOD i'm so happy i found this thread. Lan for me has always been since the first read through the spitting image of Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII. I know he doesn't have completely grey/white hair but that image has been stuck in my head since the start. Please tell me there is someone who shares my view?

Lan would be what we in the UK refer to as 'built like a brick sh!thouse'. Tall, lean but with broad, square shoulders. Experienced swordsmen tend to be almost triangular in silhouette not unlike a swimmer as the activity requires many of the same muscles.

 

I've always wanted to work Vin Diesel into the books but I dont even think HE'S quite right in stature.

Lan and Sephorith to me are only similar on the facts that both are male and both use swords.

 

Still, good to know other people who play FF7. Best game I ever played, to this day

I concur with the Lan and Sephiroth thing.  They both have only one expression that they use (stone-faced) and they are both great with a sword.

Sephiroth is NOT stony faced! You can see sinister amusement on his face-thats his version of no expression. Lan doesnt have wispy grey hair. Lan is bigger built than Sephiroth. The two are only vaguely similar.

 

Heres how I picture Lan. He is an inch or two shorter than Rand. He is wide but not as wide as Perrin. Perrin is big built, Rand is more proportioned and toned, and Lan is between the two. Tall and muscly, strong and fast. Rand and Perrin, I would wager are stronger than Lan, but not by much.

Yes, I always saw Lan as being Hugh Jackman to Rand's Jonathan Phelps (if anyone has seen the recent photographs of Hugh Jackman in his trunks...)
