What do you think of the audiobook?

I have read the whole WOT series many times and I have recently bought all the audiobooks in unabridged format.

 

I will admit that being used to listening to audiobooks, I found the WOT ones very good. Michael Kramer and Kate Reading did a superb narrating job as I can recognized each different caracters just be the sound of their voices.

 

Before book 12, I will do another readthrough. And it will definitly be with my audiobooks. But let me assure all of you that I will read book 12... I have to hold the book while I read it to truly get the full immertion feeling.

 

Has anyone else listened to the audiobooks? What where your thoughs?

Michael Kramer and Kate Reading for all 11 books shocked me. They are both top notch.

I love the audio books. Especially since in the past few years I haven't had the time to sit down and read the books themselves. I was also able to pick up on some things that I had missed the 3 times I read through the series.

I also enjoy the audio books.  They've done a wonderful job on them.

 

I have some questions:

 

Morindin, you claim to have all the books on audio.  My questions are: 1) What format do you have them on?  (Cassette or CD)  And if CD, then, 2) where can I get Book 8 & 9 on CD?

I have them in mp3 format.

I bought all of mine through iTunes and Audible.com. You should be able to find all the books between those two sites.

    The Audiobooks are great. I can do projects around the house and bug my wife to death with WOT blaring. It makes the books come alive and you sometimes miss sarcasm and things like that when reading. My favorite 'voice' is Lan's. Michael Kramer has hit him right on the head. For Kate Reading, I really like her Seanchan voices.

I also bought mine using the Audible subscription. CoS and PoD did not come out right away, but I now have them all from Audible

The audiobooks really are top-notch.  I got them all on Audible.com

 

At the Audible subscription price they're cheaper than the hardcovers (though, granted, once you've got all the WoT books you've still got a dozen left to order... still it's not as if there aren't more great audiobooks out there).  I've got my iPhone loaded up with books 9-11 for my second read-through right now.

I listen to them at work, while driving, and while cleaning house.  WOT has made work bearable lately. I love the voices, and it's surprising sometimes to think that Shaidar Haran's voice and Loial's voice came from the same guy.

 

After I 'read' these I'll start on some other audiobooks, since my friend keeps shoving them at me. I've got Song of Ice and Fire on my computer now, and he's supposed to give me the Xanth audios soon.

I think the audio books bring the story to life more than just reading

 

like when you were a little kid and your parents told you stories and included different voices for differnet characters

 

I do enjoy the audio books, i was given the eye of the world on CD for a birthday and collected them from there but the most upsetting thing about them is the cost

 

in total, from itunes, the collection of books 1 -11 and new spring will cost u  £319.49 (or $624.19 US)

 

now i am an huge fan of the series but that is a ridiculous amount of money

I love the audio books, I love the narration by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading.  I read the book first then I listen to the audio book over and over and over again.  I have a long commute, they make it bearable.  On top of that, each time I listen I seem to catch something that I missed.

Nope.

My library has (I think) all the audiobooks, but Wheel of Time isn't so popular in my community, so I'm basically the only one who reads it. ;D  But yeah, you're right about the hefty sum required.  Of course, I bought the paperbacks, which have been about a tenth of the US cost.

Sadly, my library doesn't carry it in audio format, and they won't do interlibrary loans on audio books.

Well, my library had all the books, including two copies of several of them, except for TDR, which I had to get through interlibrary loan.  But seriously, why couldn't they have gotten TDR instead of two copies of TGH?  TDR is much better, IMO.
