Two New Potential Darkfriends

So, we're all looking for Darkfriends since the Light seems a bit to strong in leaders at the moment--and high sitting darkfriends. As things stand, of the major powers only Taim holds heft. So here are some new ideas on powerful figures.

First--Zaida.

Why? Fairly weak evidence in truth, but i can't help but feel a coup'de'tat building between Harine and Zaida--we know Harine ends up as Mistress of Ships, and yet the whole feel of Harine's chapter in KoD was that she was on the outs with the First Twelve, and growing more disliked by her refusal to give up her position as Wavemistress of Shoedin in the face of her shame. From there i felt we were being framed to dislike Zaida for her treatment of Amylia--yes i know the Sea Folk behaviour towards Aes Sedai has been disgusting, yet it seemed strangely emphasised in that incident with Amylia.

Beyond that, this would serve as something to bring the Sea Folk directly into the fight. To date, of all the groups they have been the most blind in still trying to gain for themselves in sight of Tarmon Gai'don--that absurd bargain with Elayne despite the fact that the weather would have seen them dead--and sooner then any other since they live on salt water. Soon water would have become a commodity no one would have been willing to share. Or that bargain with Rand.

Second--Anaiyella.

Not terribly powerful, but now close to Darlin. She comes off as a fool--but then so does Weiramon, and we know that to be an act from his discussion with Torval. I'd suggest they are playing the same game, for the same reasons--already their actions nearly inflamed civil war in Tear, that failed, but now they are going to be thrown in with Darlin in Arad Domon--near Graendal. Something is building there.

Zaida eh? All too possible. She must be removed before Harine gets her title. There are many many possibilities. Even if she DOES turn out to be a DF, I am still puzzled over how HARINE could become Mistress cos of her exceptionally bad name with the other sailmistresses.

First off, Min 'saw' it, so it will happen.  Secondly, TG hasn't played out yet.  We don't know who lives and who dies.  Or, who might do something heroic that saves the Fleet.

Most likely, though, is that Harine's status remains as-is at series end, with becoming Mistress of Ships somewhere in her rosy future.

I don't have enough info to guess one way or the other about Zaida.

Zaida is a total wildcard for now. Not enough evidence to support either notion.

Anaiyella is possible, but I wouldn't count on it. We already have Weiramon who is very likely a Darkfriend, if we had another noble who was pretty much exactly like that, it'd get redundant. Plus Anaiyella has hardly had much importance in the series to be put into that position in the last book. That may be just me though.

Of course it will happen. Who denied it?

I don't think so. Otherwise RJ could have given Min a whole lot of viewings that would take place beyond AMOL. No point in that. Many of us are wondering

how Harine would become Mistress and no doubt RJ gave Min that viewing to do precisely this. It would be cruel to leave us gaping. I am convinced it will happen in AMOL.

The Sea Folk have their own name and prophecies regarding the Dragon. I expect them to be fairly prominent and important in AMOL-perhaps more than they have been so far. Chapters involving the Seal Folk have increased along with the series hence giving them increasing importance.

Why is it that RJ can't tie all the loose ends? ANY loose ends will just be disappointing. Did RJ bring in so many side plots that he was unable to end them all satisfactorily?

That is an interesting question... I think what it comes down to is a lot of people who read this story think of it as the epic tale of Rand, the Dragon Reborn... But actually I think what RJ was really writing here was the Epic tale of the salvation of humanity, which happens to include Rand quite a bit as he will be the catalyst of that salvation...but he is not the be-all and end-all of the story RJ was trying to tell here... By focusing his story on the state of Humanity, RJ was able to bring a lot of big big big picture stuff, like political conflict, and a lot of small small small picture stuff, like the internal turmoil of individual human beings... in to his story.

He was able to give a picture of how people live their lives, how they react to life and all of its tragedies and comedies... etc...  After the last battle, life goes on... so why in the world would RJ wrap up every loose end? That would not just end the story, it would end the world, there would be no where for the characters to go on... The idea of the 'and everyone lived happily ever after' story is old and out-dated in my opinion...
