APRIL…The Month of the Challenge of the Sashes!

Hi Kinsters!!  That’s right..you read it in the title…April is all about Challenge of the Sashes!!  *grins*  and of course SPRING!  We will have two contests and two exchanges!!  WOO HOO!!!!  *bounces*

Challenge #1

How well do you know your fellow Sash members?  Are they sassy?  Creative?  Serious?  Active?  Or maybe you haven’t even met them yet!!!  Well, April is the opportunity to find those things out!!  How are we going to do this Twinnie, you may be asking…*sassy grin*  Well I’ll just tell you!  *nods*

April is National Poetry Month!  In honor of this, the Sashes will be challenged to compose four different poems!  Remember Acrostic Poems?  The kind where you take a word and write a line for each letter?  Umhmm..that’s week one!!  And in week two…y’all have the opportunity to write an Epitaph for your favorite Council member to celebrate National Epitath day on the 6th! LOL!  Then the third week, let your stories pour out as you tell the tale of your Sash and Kin family in a Ballad!  And last…your challenge is to compose a Sonnet to celebrate Earthday!!!

But Twinnie..I don’t know HOW to write those poems!!!  Oh but you do!!  *grins*  Check out your Sash boards for more detailed instructions and examples of each type of poem!  At the end of each week..your Sash group will pick out their choice of any and all submissions and pm it to me!  I will post them on the Public board for a vote to pick the favorite!!  First will get four points, second three, third two and fourth one point!  The Sash with the most points at the end of the month wins 100 points to be divided among everyone that participated in your Sash!  Second place will receive 50, third place 30 and fourth place 20!

As an added bonus…All poems will be posted the last week of the month in a poll for the overall favorite!  First place will win 25 points, second 20 and third 15!!!

Challenge #2

Our second challenge?  It’s a COLORING CONTEST!!!

Last Spring, our Elegant Eldest concocted this fun activity for the kid in all of us!! (and beside some of us!!  lol)  So, here's how this will work.

I will give you 5 choices for what to color. You print them out, color them, then mail them to me!  I get them, I scan them, I host them, and the Red Sashes vote on them. The rules are simple. You have to color it yourself (OR, for those of you with kids, you have to give the artist credit!) On the back write your name (or the artist's name, and I really like self-autographed work.  ) and the name I know you by. I'll post them without names, just numbers. The winners get prizes. I'm not telling you what, because...I haven't decided yet! LOL  OHHHH!!  And by the way..the Sash group with the most entries…will earn each member points!  *giggles*  Time to get out the crayons!!!

And the choices are:

The Exchanges!!!

SPRING!  When flowers bloom, rain falls, tornados twirl and things BOUNCE! Or Spring…..*grins*

April is our Great Seed/Bulb/Plant Exchange or Spring Exchange or combination of both!!    It’s pretty simple really…you exchange a plant, or in the interest of simplifying mailing..seeds or flower bulbs!  If you want you can through in garden gloves, or anything to do with gardening!!    I know several of you live in apartments or places where having a garden isn’t feasible…..so maybe a flowerpot!?!  OR..

You can bounce into the Spring part of the exchange!!  LOL Originally this was about spring things…butterflies, flowers, umbrellas…but then:  Our very own Horn came up with the literal SPRING!  Boing! Boing! Boing!  LOL  Find a spring to exchange!!

As per normal..keep the cost reasonable, like around ten to fifteen bucks!  And consider size and mailing!  Just an FYI…the USPS has a flat rate box for $8.95 that is a good size and can weigh anything and go anywhere in the continental USA.  They have the same box for overseas…but cost a lot more depending on where!

OK folks…a sign up thread will be posted!  Sign up for Seeds/Bulbs, or Springy things or both!!  And if you don’t have a garden space..let us know that to!!

**If you are not in the USA please tell me that on the sign up..and if you are ok with shipping overseas***

Whew!!  So we have Challenges!!  Exchanges!!!  And don’t forget our ongoing Kinstuff!!!

~Purple Sashes have the Birthday’s of the Month for April!

~Resolutions Thread!  Check in on how we’re doing on our yearly goals!

~Soup Kitchen!  This month celebrates a wide variety of  Foods!  Pecans, Caramel Corn, Garlic, Pretzels, Shrimp Scampi, Jelly Beans and the infamous…Peanut Butter and Jelly!  Be sure to share your fav recipes with us!!

Happy April Kinlings!!!

~Twinnie

LOL epitaphs for Council members? Perhaps I should save some aimed at me for my husband to use when I die laughing at them... *grins*

I really suck at poetry. Is there an award for "worst poem" ?? *laughs* I think I have that one nailed! Gimme prose, I'm good at prose...

I guess I need to buy some crayons then!

Also, I went out to buy some bulbs and stuff for the exchange and found some really pretty ones that I want for my own bedroom! Mostly because I live in a dorm now and next year I'll live in a house with 9 other girls.
