Recommended Posts

Below are the nominations for the forthcoming Brit Awards that are being held on Wednesday 20th February 2008. I'll list each category, and will post a Corki prediction. Feel free to discuss the nominations, and guess who will win. There will be a prize for the people who pick the highest amount of winners!

British Male Solo Artist

1. Jamie T

2. Mark Ronson

3. Mika

4. Newton Faulkner

5. Richard Hawley

Corki's prediction: Sadly, this isn't my forte, but my money is on Mika, who has had a great year.

British Female Solo Artist

1. Bat For Lashes

2. Kate Nash

3. KT Tunstall

4. Leona Lewis

5. PJ Harvey

Corki's prediction: A good selection here, and I feel it's a tough call between Leona Lewis and Kate Nash. Out of the two, I have a feeling it is Leona Lewis.

British Group

1. Arctic Monkeys

2. Editors

3. Girls Aloud

4. Kaiser Chiefs

5. Take That

Corki's prediction: To round off their great come back, Take That will win by a country mile.

British Album

1. Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare...

2. Leona Lewis - Spirit

3. Mark Ronson - Version

4. Mika - Life In Cartoon Motion

5. Take That - Beautiful World

Corki's prediction: Another tough one to call, but I put my money on Take That to collect their second award of the evening.

British Breakthrough Artist

1. Bat For Lashes

2. Kate Nash

3. Klaxons

4. Leona Lewis

5. Mika

Corki's prediction: Why are all the choices so tough? Anyway, my gut tells me it will be the Klaxons.

British Live Act

1. Arctic Monkeys

2. Kaiser Chiefs

3. Klaxons

4. Muse

5. Take That

Corki's prediction: The one and only Muse to win.

British Single

1. The Hoosiers - Worried About Ray

2. Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love

3. Mark Ronson: Valerie Ft Amy Whinehouse...

4. Mika: Grace Kelly

5. Take That: Shine

Corki's prediction: Leona Lewis to pick up her second award of the night. Plus it's my favourite song out of that list.

International Male Solo Artist

1. Bruce Springsteen

2. Kanye West

3. Michael Buble

4. Rufus Wainwright

5. Timbaland

Corki's prediction: Kanye West will pip Timbaland to the award.

International Female Solo Artist

1. Alicia Keys

2. Bjork

3. Feist

4. Kylie Minogue

5. Rihanna

Corki's prediction: Despite a good come back by Kylie, it's been Rihanna's year.

International Group

1. Arcade Fire

2. Eagles

3. Foo Fighters

4. Kings of Leon

5. The White Stripes

Corki's prediction: One for the oldies as the Eagles swoop in for victory.

International Album

1. Arcade Fire - Neon Bible

2. Eagles - Long Road Out Of Eden

3. Foo Fighters - Echoes Silence Patience...

4. Kings of Leon - Because Of The Times

5. Kylie Minogue - X

Corki's prediction: What is virtually a repeat of the previous award with nominations, my money is on the Foo Fighters.

Outstanding Contribution Award

- Paul McCartney

Corki's prediction: Well, I can't predict this as it's already been chosen, but a nominee who is thoroughly deserving of the award.

My prediction (and occasional reasoning)

British Male Solo Artist

While Ronson did come out with that amazing album, i expect it to be too unusual to gain the title. Newton Faulkner meanwhile was too late, and i'm only aware of two songs that i like by the artist (and although his cover of Teardrop is amazing, its still a cover). Which leaves Mika to take this one...

British Female Solo Artist

Personally i wouldn't write off KT Tunstall, although that might be an outside bet. However out of Leona vs Kate, i'd be going for Kate Nash

British Group

I personally saw the nominations and disregarded Take That and Girls Aloud. I reckon the other three have more of a chance with this one, and of the other three i'd tip Arctic Monkeys for the title due to a slightly more active year...

British Album

Praying for Version, although its got tough competition from both Favourite Worst Nightmare and Life in Cartoon Motion (as much as i dislike the music, the man knows how to write an album). Don't think Leona or Take That stand a chance against such talented opposition...

British Breakthrough Artist

If this award lives up to form (Arctic Monkeys previous winners) i expect Klaxon to win it, but i feel they might distance themselves from last year, thereby firmly putting it with either Mika or Kate Nash - and im going for the latter...

British Live Act

Well Muse have been outstanding all year, although (writing off Take That - for some reason i don't think they'll do that well) the other 3 all gave strong performances, both at gigs and on the festival circuit this year

British Single

Not quite as tricky as live act, but this is the one where Take That might have a chance to win an award. As much as i like the hoosiers one and recognise Bleeding Love i'd write these off in favour of one of the other 3, and would probably end up giving it to Mika for Grace Kelly

International Male Solo Artist

Agree with Corki on this one, Kanye West or Timbaland with a chance

International Female Solo Artist

Rihanna's without a doubt

International Group

Going with Arcade Fire on this one due to an inspirational start to the year

International Album

Foo Fighters - stab in the dark but it'll do

And can't really comment on McCartney...

Now others, let your voices be heard :P

Not really one for pop..I must say I've not heard of 99% of those..in fact scanning that list I've heard of Macartney, Eagles, Foo-fighters and a few others.

Foo-fighters will rock...and if they don't there'd better be a d*mn good reason why not!

British Male Solo Artist

Not too fond of any of the nominees. I think Mika will win, after the insane hype around him.

Had it been up to me, I would rather have handed the award to Jarvis Cocker, who put out a most excellent album.

British Female Solo Artist

When the hell did PJ Harvey become a brit?

For this one, I really hope for Bat For Lashes, that album was among the best things I heard last year. But I'm afraid it's not commercial enough to win.

British Group

I fear TT will win, even though what little I heard from their comeback was plain rubbish. My hopes is for Kaiser Chiefs, though their chances seem slim.

British Album

Tough call, but Mika will get it, again thanks to the hype.

British Breakthrough Artist

Oh my, tough again. Bat For Lashes is out of the race for not attracting the broad audience, unfortunatly. I think Klaxons might beat Mika due to Mika getting other awards. At least I hope so.

British Live Act

Only one I've seen live is Klaxons, so I have to root for them. Awesome gig last summer.

British Single

Mika again. Don't know about the UK, but here it was one of the most rotated songs on radio last year.

International Male Solo Artist

Only one I care for is Springsteen, but I suppose one of them rapperschmappers will get it. Which means I don't care, I don't listen to hip hop from the US.

International Female Solo Artist

Rihanna by a landslide. There is no competition for her.

I find it odd that Robyn did not get nominated though.

International Group

I'm almost tempted to side with Corki and predict Eagles, but they are too bloody boring even for the dusty Brit Awards jury. I think Foo Fighters has the best chance.

International Album

Kylie gets compensated for missing best female artist.
