Stars, Moons, Birds and Fishes

I don't remember if anyone tackled this, but I'm really curious about Cadsuane's ter'angreal that she decorates her hair with.  I don't know if any of the books have mentioned exactly how many she has in there.

 

I know that she has birds, fish, stars and moons and she "earned" them through her lessons with that toothless Tammy in the Black Hills.

 

So far I remember that during the Choedan Kal battle, she had one that hung from a chain and detected saidin, and also told where the channeling was coming from.  I believe this is why she thought Nyneave's ter'angreal "should" tell where the direction of the channeling came from, because Cadsuane's does.

 

When we first met Cadsuane there was a star in her hair that trembled when she was around a man who could channel, which might explain why she picked up more men who could channel than any Red Sister.

 

We know that there is a ter'angreal in Cadsuane's possession that unravels a web, or absorbs the weave like Mat's foxhead.  I think Alivia was wearing this one when she battled Cyndane, because the Forsaken was shocked when her fireball unravelled and deduced it must be an angreal.

 

Do we know what any of her fish do?  And I'm still curious as to how many of these things Cadsuane actually has decorating her hair.

From my own notes here is what Cadsuane has.

 

1. First Star - Vibrates when a man who can channel is nearby.

2. Hummingbird - Is a Well

3. Swallow - Detects channeling and indicates direction of channeler. Does not detect cross-gender links.

4. Shrike - Angreal

5. First Fish - Possibly breaks a distant weave (the way she took out Semirhage)**

6. Second Fish - Use Unknown to Cadsuane.

7. Third Fish - Use Unknown to Cadsuane.

8. Two intertwined Moons - breaks direct weaves (like Mat's).

9. A Crescent Moon - Use Unknown to Cadsuane.

10. Unmentioned Star - (The stars were mentioned in plural) Possibly breaks a distant weave (the way she took out Semirhage)**

 

These are that have been listed or implied, though there may still be more.

 

**It's unknown which ter'angreal allowed her to break Semirhages disguise though my money is on the Fish because Cadsuane states that she doesn't know the use of 'two of her fish' suggesting she knows the use of the third. Still, its uncertain.

No, that was one of Nynaeve's set, which is actually more comprehensive than Cadsuane's. Again, from my own notes so forgive mistakes.

 

1. Rings and Bracelet - Angreal

2. Long Necklace with Rubies - Use Unknown**

3. Belt with Rubies - A Well for Saidar.

4. Bracelet with Rubies - Covers the user with Armour made from Air.

5. First Bracelet with Emeralds - Use Unknown**

6. Second Bracelet with Emeralds - Use Unknown**

7. First Ring with Green Stones (one single stone) - Detects channeling as much as three miles away, and vibrates differently for saidin or saidar (note: If the person has their weaves inverted then apparently the ring can't tell the difference between saidin and saidar).

8. Second Ring with Green Stones - Use Unknown**

9. First Ring with Saphires (one single saphire) - Goes cold when someone nearby is feeling hostile or angry.

10. Second Ring with Saphires - Use Unknown**

 

Unlike Cadsuane we know this to be every piece in Nynaeve's collection. This is it.

Ok, well first on how I figured out all of Nynaeve's ones, they are listed by Aldragoran on page 435 of KoD.

 

As for uses, ill list them by the numbers i gave them. I'm sorry i only listed chapters.

 

Caddy's

 

1. First Star - CoT - Ornaments

2. Humingbird - WH - The Hummingbird's Secret

3. Swallow - CoT - Ornaments

4. Shrike - Winter's Heart - With the Choedan Kal

5. First Fish - CoT - Ornaments (references not knowing what two of her fish do) the rest was my own speculation.

6. Second Fish - CoT - Ornaments.

7. Third Fish - CoT - Ornaments.

8. Two intertwined Moons - aCoS - New Alliances - the moons go cold when Alanna embraces the source, like Mats.

9. A Crescent Moon - CoT - Ornaments.

10. Unmentioned Star - Comes from the fact that Cadsuane is always referred to have multiple stars--as in plural--whenever her ornaments are described. Could even be more than one.

im wondering, are these ornament just attuned to women, or can men use them as well?

 

I think only women, they sound like high tech body armor for the one hunting mad  male channellers, but men may still use them

They were created by a woman to serve a woman during the Breaking.

 

But that being said, those that don't have to be specifically activated--like the one Cadsuane used to break Semrihage's disguise--would probably work for a men. The rest i suspect require saidar.

OK Luckers I have a question for you.

 

Caddy and/or Nynaeve broke Semi's MoM weave somehow - we think it was via these "tools" above.

 

What I would like to know is how much control does Caddy / Nyneave have over them and are they directional?

 

Because both Caddy and Nyneave had the Weave to hide them holding the Power AND the Weave to detect Men Channeling going on.

 

So when they "Used" the weave breaker did the break each others weaves?

 

Sorry if it is not clear but I think you can understand what I'm asking.

I thought it was a post about lucky charms or perhaps a Seanchan cereal then  remembered that was stars moons hearts and clovers.  Oh well.  This was much more interesting.
