G.I. Joe: A Real Brussels Hero?

So,

I don't post on the general board often but this one gets me so worked up I have to start the "Ban G.I. Joe" movement.

My childhood has been defiled by way to many old cartoons and t.v. shows made into movies and now we're taking the real american hero to the big screen and guess what... he's not even a real american hero anymore!

That's right kids, G.I. Joe will be a covert global team based in Brussels.  And if you're looking for Duke to be heading up the Joes... forget it.  Instead we got that clown who single handedly killed the first D&D movie by making it into a utter joke: Wayans (sp?) playing Ripcord as the team leader.

Ripcord?  *smacks forehead with hand*

Additionally, Cobra is rumored to be out of Scotland (wow, who would have ever considered that one) and they are arms dealers ... but don't expect Cobra Commander to have a mask or look cool or anything, nope they think that's laughable.  God knows what they'll do to him.

I think if we keep going to these crappy films which destroy all our childhood joys, they'll just keep making them.  I propose it's high time we just stop going to see these films!

So who is with me!  *picks up a pitchfork and torch to take at hollywood*

word.

i felt the same way about transformers.  i have yet to see it.

for the duke thing, while this isn't a justification, a likely reason for his exclusion could be a rights issue.  unfortunately in some of these franchises, rights to certain characters are owned by outside parties, and it's not always a "package deal."

that's not to say that they won't screw it up; i am inclined to agree with you.  actually, let me put that another way.  i'm 100% certain that you're right in your estimation of the situation.

i'm with you, for one.

you hear they're supposedly working on getting rights to do a new he-man movie?

Wasn't the one in the 80s a tragedy enough for them?  They're doing thundercats too.  Is it just me or has Hollywood run out of good ideas?  Makes me wonder if that's the REAL reason the writers are striking.  LOL!

Look, Im as Aussie as they come, but I loved GI Joe as a young tacker! I still have all the figurines and vehicles at home. I even have a large collection of GI Joe comics in the garage.

So yes Miya, pass me a pitchfork, cos I want the whole "USA all the way" theme, cos thats part of the story!

Dude, they can try to make a new He Man film, but I doubt they could ever top Dolph Lundgrens heartfelt portrayal as Prince of Eternia, nor Frank Langella's passionately manic Skeletor!  :o

I seriously just mirfed my tea.  Now THAT'S definately un-Sedai of me.  Next time I won't drink tea before reading potentially funny posts.  Ah, but knowing is half the battle.  <sings> G.I. JOE! </singing>

hahaha, my wife actually bought me some of the old cartoon episodes on dvd, as well as the movie.  hahaha, what a train wreck, it was awesome.  i don't think there's a single moment in the entire movie where dolph doesn't look just incredibly awkward.  even his part in the punisher was better acted.  and yes, i also own that.

i'm such a fanboy it's sad....  it warms my heart to see my daughter watch he-man and get off on it more than i do.  ;D

and y'know miya, i don't think it's that they're out of ideas, it's more that they're using the same idea over and over again because it worked "last time."  we children of the '80's are being targeted lately, as well as all the comics fans (which i never was until about a year ago, ironically).  too bad all the movie execs think they know what we'll like better than we do...

The best ever line from "Masters of the Universe".

Picture the scene, DOlph has just met Courtney Cox in the lane way, as Skeletors baddies are roaming around. Dolph hands CC a gun and says:

"Take this (stares up the alleyway), protect yourself!"

And the Hollywood script writers were not even striking back then!

a time when dolph lundgren could get work.

A time when if you had a problem with the established government, all you had to  do was... if you were lucky enough and could find them... hire, the A-Team.

Or... keep an eye out for The Hoff in a hot talking car, cause dude had it going on!

Ah... the good ol' days.

Magnum was GREAT!  I especially loved the surprise twist of finding out who Robin really was.  LOL!  Great stuff, unlike Charlie's Angels where we never saw Charlie, not even in the bloody end.  Of course that was probably because they couldn't get anyone sexy enough to get three grown women to believably act like the angels did... of course that was only due to the fact that Dolph was unavailable for the role.  ROFLMAO
