Barthanes Murder?

Did the Gholam kill Barthanes?

 

I just finished TGH and it occured to me that the murder resembled Harid Fel's death.  Also, the Gholam likes to tear off heads ie Tylin's murder. 

 

I originally though it was Fain or one of his Trollocs but the were already well on their way to Toman Head when Rand left the party at the Manor and Barthanes was alive then. 

 

Verin? 

 

Has this been covered and I missed it?

Just noting that Barthane's mansion becomes Rand's school later (so Barthanes and Fel died in the same building).

 

No, I don't think we've had any new info that's not in tGH or LoC in a coon's age or more ;)

I always thought it was the Gholam--and in truth it pretty much had to be either a Gholam or a channeler given the force used.

 

And I never realised that about Barthanes and Fel dying in the same building. Good catch.

I've seen it mentioned here and the old Dragonmount boards. I lean more interesting coincidence: I doubt the Gholam hung around Caemlyn for a year and a half for example. Besides a Trolloc or a Fade could probably rip someone apart--they've always been described as pretty strong.

 

More interesting is how the dark knew of Fel and that he was bad news for them. Especially with Ishy still dead...

Well ... that may actually have been one of Moridin's first orders.  Fel dies in the epilogue of Lord of Chaos, the same time that Moghedien is summoned to Shayol Ghul, to be delivered, a very short time later, to Moridin, who had apparently been alive long enough to already have Cyndane's mindtrap.  It seems that Moridin was transmigrated some time during the time period of Lord of Chaos ... and he'd be more likely to see the danger in a philosopher than anyone else.  Also, he thinks in more than one POV that he has eyes close to Rand in Cairhien.  So, my guess is that Moridin ordered Fel's death, as part of retaking control of Rand's situation.

Any thoughts on Fel's weirdness at the end? Always annoying that Rand isn't that great an observer of what goes on around him.

I'm pretty sure the gholam killed Barthanes given that is said explicity that he was torn apart.  Also, a Trolloc would've eaten him without a Fade around and a Fade probably would've taken him to Thakander for one of the blade makings.  If nothing else Moridin sent the Gholam to kill Fel for spite.

At the end?  He was weird all along.  ;D
