*sigh*

Argh... Caddy is crafty enough to tie a film's release date to Cannes Film Festival... which is held in France.  I am still compiling a possible list but need to get back to work.  Below is what I have researced so far.

France:

2000

La Veuve de Saint-Pierre - nominated for GG, won some awards... but more than 3 words long.

The Taste of Others - nominated for Oscar, lots of other wins, more than 3 words

Dancer in the Dark - nominated for Oscar, wins, more than 3 words

O Brother, Where Art Thou? - released for Cannes and France first, nominated for Oscar, won GG

Billy Elliot - released at Cannes, nominated for GG and Oscar

2001

Amélie - not this film

Le Peuple Migrateur - nominated for Oscar, a few wins, excluded for being Documentary

Mulholland Dr. - released at Cannes, nominated for Oscar and GG

2002

City of God - nominated for Oscar and GG

The Pianist - released at Cannes in France, Won 3 Oscars

2003

Les Triplettes de Belleville - nominmated for 2 Oscars, a few wins, more than 3 words

Monsieur Ibrahim - not this film

Spain

2002

Balseros - not this film

Talk to her - Nominted and won Academy Award

2003

7:35 de la Mañana - nominated for Academy Award, Musical Comedy

I don't think it is Russian.....

Oh crap...I was going under the assumption that the location of a film's first release is its country of origin. I completely forgot about Cannes... D'oh!

Punch Drunk Love -- Drama, quircky Adam Sandler film...probably suits Cad's tastes.

Billy Elliot -- Drama, heartwarming story about a kid who wants to be a ballet star, british film, originally released at Cannes.

Mulholland Dr. -- Drama, major hotties (ie, Naomi Watts) who show their lovelies and get some gratuitously hot girl-girl action. Definitely a Cads type of movie...  ;D

City of God -- crime drama, set in Brazil with lots of beautiful people. Never seen it, so I can't really say if I think Cads would like it.

I guess I'm leaning towards either Mulholland or Punch Drunk.

Q18:  Is the original country's film release tied to Cannes Film Festival?  (meaning are you counting the original release in France due to Cannes)

Hey... I may be overthinking how devious Caddy would be, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.  I am hoping the answer is no so I don't have to go through three years of nominations to figure out what was shown at Cannes.

Ok, apparently I am NOT counting the original release as being at a festival. I was going by the release country on the main imdb page for the movie, but I just clicked on the "more" link there, and it was shown at 4 festivals in countries other than the one listed on main page that I've been answering about. I'm sorry, I didn't realize that country of original release was a more complicated question than I was thinking. I've been answering about the first country it was more widely released in, so the answer to Q18 is NO.

You can have a couple extra questions if you want, since I've accidentally mislead your thinking.  :-\

And Pait, I liked all of those movies EXCEPT Mulholland Drive. It made no sense to me, and had no other redeeming qualities that I noticed.  :P ^_^

Cads no need.  You never know how someone will interpret that question and really the festival is not when it was released to the general public (we will have to rephrase question to be more specific in the future).

So really this question should be easier now.  *Goes into Empy mode*  List coming soon.  Any help would be nice :)

It could be Memento... one of my favorites.... I had no idea it was released in France first.

Still searching.  I am basically hitting every nominee now.  *shakes fist*

hey cadds i feel your pain. imdb said mine was released in norway but im resable shure that it was originaly released in south africa.  i wish imdb was more accurate in the info from one page to another as well.

I did a search through all three years of nominees for both GG and AA.  The only new movie that popped on my radar was Memento.  If someone else has the time, could they double check this before I ask a specific question about this movie?

Posted

No, I am using IMDB to tell me who the nominees are... and then clicking on their name to check to see which country they list on the main title page for release.

I admit I may have missed a few but I felt thorough this time.

Folks I did a sweep of awards for both GG and AA for 2001 through 2004 (award years are usually held the next year).  The only option seems to be Memento.

You did select a movie, right?

Ok, just because we (see "Empy") seem to have absolutely no idea, and because it looks like its going to take more than 21 questions to guess this one I'm going to ask my tried and true question:

Does this movie star Kevin Bacon?

I'm worried I answered something wrong and just don't know it yet... Even discounting the chick flick question, Memento was the only one you found??

I looked through the answers and they seem correct. I don't understand why they haven't even been able to make a list with the movie in. Good job, Cads. :P
