So While i was re reading TFoH I came acroos the part where elayne and Nyaneave get doused with the forkroot. Now i thought that forkroot only effected people who could channel but when they get rescued and leave they douse the shop keeper and her helper with the stuff and they get drugged as well. So can they channel? Or can they maybe be toguht to channel? Your thoughts on this.

They might be able to channel, however if I remember correctly, if you give a normal person a very high dose it has the same effects.

Charlz, your braver than me.  I thought about saying that but wasn't about to stick my foot out without being able to check the books.

Yeah, I'm going to have to check the books on this one too.  Seems to me like they made a big deal of the fact that the forkroot would only affect the wise ones that could channel. But then, they were only going for the deadening of the channeling abilities, not to put everyone asleep.  It's tough for me to say for sure right now when I'm stuck at work.

I have been thinking about it and I think that possibly they could channel. I mean what happens to novices that are put out of the tower? Who better to become eyes and ears FOR the tower. That way  they are still connected to the tower in a fashion. So maybe they could channel and we just very weak in the power Like Morgase.

Pardon my ignorance, but I always took the OP-dampening attributes of forkroot to be linked to it's ability to put the drinker to sleep.

Think of it in terms of narcotics. When someone takes a narcotic, they get drifty. Their ability to form complex thoughts is dampened, muffled. If forkroot is some type of drug, like opium or something, then it would have the same effects on anyone who drinks, regardless of their ability to channel the OP. But while it will put anyone to sleep, the ADDED and most DESIRABLE effect of the root is to stop channelers from channeling. You might go so far as to say that channelers have a particular weakness to forkroot---possibly even an "allergy"---but I don't think the effects of forkroot are geared entirely toward channelers.

See, it takes a fair amount of concentration for a channeler to touch the OP. For saidin, it takes "assuming the void". For saidar, it takes "complete surrender". But in either case, there's a mental state involved. Forkroot, I believe, interferes with that mental state.

Again, if I'm wrong, forgive my ignorance  ;D

Actually, what it says in KoD is that a normal person can drink five times the amount of Forkroot and only feel dizzy (or was it queezy)?

I do agree that this does imply the fact that in sufficient amounts Forkroot works on anyone, but it doesn't state it.

Hmmm...the damage Forkroot could do. Wow, all the Black Ajah has to do is put lots of forkroot in the White Tower's water source just before TG.  ;D

I've actually thought about that, but I don't think the BA really has as much access to the Forkroot as they'd need.  However, I've been wondering if the Seanchan might do something like that when they attack the Tower.

Additionally, Aes Sedai don't all drink water all the time, or even at the same time. It worked on the Wise Ones, but i dont think it would really have much of an effect on the Aes Sedai.

And yeah, They likely don't have a large enough supply of Forkroot.

I don't think the Seanchan have enough to do anything either.  Perrin took pretty much all they had cropped to use against the Shaido.

I really don't think they could channel...

Nynaeve and Elayne would have sensed their ability and been a lot more careful!

And i agree. The seanchan probably don't have enough foorkroot left for the white tower. I'm also guessing it would be a lot harder to access the aes sedai water supply, because they probably have more than one source...
