The void in real life?

The lucid dreaming thing happened to me once or twice, but by accident. Then I did some half-a**ed research, made some attempts to consciously to replicate it, but never managed to. The funny thing is, I can remember my dreams with a little effort, and they say remembering dreams is the first step. Anyone knows a ter'angreal-equivalent that can help access our own T'A'R?

ive had some cool dreams that i dont think i had controll over, but they were in first person, and had destroying things. ;)

iv'e also heard somewhere that if yousay before you go to sleep over and over "i will remember my dream" or something like that, then you remember them better. i tried, but got to bored.

Isolation tanks can certainly help obtain the void.  It deprives you of all of your senses and really enhances meditation.  Nothing better than floating in saltwater w/complete silence and darkness.  Try not to fall asleep though.

Those things frighten me, I remember a movie where a guy was in one had some kind of mystical experiance and riped the tank open after he had de-evolved into a caveman or something...<shutters> Nope not getting me in one.

Are we supposed to remember dreams? It's weird, as soon as I wake up, the details trickle away so fast even if I remembered the dream so vividly at the beginning. Within seconds, the dream is a hazy blob.

There are certain things you can do to increase your dream recall ability. Most people are only able to remember the dreams that occur right before waking up, and then only if they had just entered/exited REM sleep.

It may help if you record yourself at night, or keep a dream journal by your bed to write down any dreams you remember immediately after waking up (before they become hazy blurs).

I know one way is to practice asking yourself if you are dreaming even if you are awake. It takes repetition and practice but it trains your brain to ask yourself that question so that when you are asleep there is a better chance of you realizing you are dreaming, once you realize you are dreaming if you don't wake up, then you can control the dream. So set an alarm or something for every 30 mins to an hour and ask yourself if you are dreaming. Do you remember how you got where you are now? Often times in dreams you won't remember this. There are websites about this if you do a quick google search on unlocking lucid dreams. They can describe the process better than I can

I'm just curious - is "the void" based on anything from the real world? I know a little about meditation and it sounds a bit similar, but not exactly.

Thanks for any input!

Go to Marine boot camp in the winter time. The first time you see your DI (Drill Instructor) standing there smoking you (making you miserable) in thirteen degree weather wearing shorts and a wife-beater shirt, you will believe the Void exists.

Altered States. And something tells me you won't turn into a pumpkin inside one.

The void is very common in military training. In fact you learn it in boot camp. You can't be thinking about your girlfriend or your friends (or the wheel of time) or the fact that you are cold, tired, and hungry while you are firing live ammunition. You clear your mind, you hold your breath so you can steady the rifle and you fire your shot. It takes a bit more practice to hold the void for longer periods of time, but damn it helps when you are trying to shoot with a gas mask on!

I almost achieved it once when I was going through my "I want to learn to channel so I can travel to London to take the world away from the queen by force" phase.  Didn't quite make it as you can tell because the world still belongs to her for now.  Some day, though.  "Tomorrow, Pinky...tomorrow I'll take over the WORLD!!!" -- Pinky and the Brain.  Sorry for spamming your post...just couldn't resist.  You owe me one. ;)

You can't be trying to learn to channel. Obviously. The way to learn... If you can't already channel... is the way Tam al'Thor learned. Military style. Its been around since Greek and Roman times. It is what differentiates a soldier from a militiamen. It is the ability to aim your spear, aim your bow, aim your rifle without having to worry about what is going on around you(your friends dying and whatnot). The void isn't some sort of zen that you achieve once. You practice and you can achieve concentration whenever you like. The void is what you feel when you become a marksman rifle shooter and anyone can. just start practicing, don't focus on a flame, the flame consumes all your emotions and then nothing is left. you are the void.
