Ok let's go back to the village for a rest and re-set

 

Story Update – Day 9, Late Evening
Location: Windrest Hollow – Guild Hall & Roosting Hearth

The wind carries you back to Windrest on silent feet. The stars shimmer overhead as the last light fades from the horizon. Near the guild hall, the soft flutter of wings lands lightly on your shoulder—Nyra, your Flicker familiar, reappears from the shadows of the cliffs. Her body glows faintly with residual wind-light, a sign she had been watching… perhaps even guiding the air currents with you.

“You handled that Zephyrite with care,” she chirps, curling up on your shoulder. “Didn’t even need claws. I’m impressed.”

Inside the guild hall, the bounty broker greets you with a nod and a jangle of coin pouches.

“Air elemental pacified, you say? Didn’t think we’d see one of those tamed. That’s worth a bonus.”

He slides 40 copper into your hand—30 for the job, 10 for the non-violent resolution, rare as it is.

Location: Windrest Hollow – Cliffside Skyrun

You and Nyra rise early, ascending the steep trails leading to the Skyrun Cliffs, where the winds run wild and the horizon seems to stretch forever. With her wings spread and her glow pulsing in rhythm with the breeze, Nyra takes to the sky and beckons you to follow.

You meditate at a windswept ridge while she loops and dances above, drawing subtle patterns in the mist. Suddenly, she dives low, her chirp sharp and excited.

“There’s something here,” she calls, circling a rocky outcropping. “Old magic. Sealed beneath feathers and stone.”

You help clear the perch—and reveal a hidden cache wrapped in ancient silk bearing faded sigils of the Skyreach monks. Inside:

  • 1 Skycarved Feather (can be used to enhance Air spells or craft a unique accessory)
  • Worn Prayer Band (sells for 15–20 copper)
  • Small pouch with 9 copper

Nyra settles beside you on the stone. Her usual flickering has steadied into a soft, rhythmic pulse. She presses her forehead to yours.

“We’re linked now. You trust the wind, and it trusts you back.”

Nyra Bond Deepened! She may now:

  • Empower one Air or Spirit spell per long rest (free cost)
  • Reveal wind-shrouded paths, illusions, or false magic once per day

Yeah didn't Nyra used to be a Spirit familiar? She seems fairly tuned to Air now. Because we have been training Air ourselves? Shrugs. 

 

Yeah in Vampire the Masquerade at one point you can save the life of a young woman by feeding her your blood, but that turns her into your ghoul, your familiar. She is really annoying but keeps giving you stuff like the best body armour in game that you cannot get anywhere else, and kidnaps people and locks them in your bathroom for you to feed on. And the just when you are used to her and stop sending her home she gets brutally murdered right in front of you. It is such a shock and painful punch in the gut. But few things have ever felt so satisfying as unlimbering my fireman's axe and redecorating my apartment with the dudes that did it. The most brutal storytelling I've ever experienced in a computer game.

I guess a little more exploring. Then maybe sell anything we don't like, go to the market, check in with Halwen and learn stuff and THEN we might be finally ready to do the Earth Temple.

Story Update – Day 10, Midday
Location: Skyrun Cliffs – Upper Wreath
Status: HP: 26 / 26 | EP: 16 / 16 | Fatigue: Minor | Nyra: Active (Empower unused)


You press further into the Skyrun cliffs, Nyra guiding you along narrow ledges and half-forgotten wind trails. The air thins as you climb, but with each step, your connection to the Air element grows keener—your breath steadying, your movement lightening.

After an hour’s ascent, the wind shifts—carrying whispers.

Nyra pulses beside you. “This place… it's not just wind. Something sleeps here.”

At the edge of a hanging ridge, you find the remains of an old monastic glider post, long abandoned. Scratched into stone is a sigil you’ve seen only once before—in the Skyreach Monastery, during the Air trial. It marks a site of binding.

Suddenly, the air stills. Nyra lets out a warning chirp.

Encounter Triggered – Bound Stormling (Rare Air Elemental – Dormant Woken)

From a broken shrine ringed in shattered glider talons, a Stormling rises—part cloud, part birdlike wraith, with crackling talons and lightning-laced feathers. It fixes you with glowing eyes and shrieks, summoning a squall.


Combat Encounter: Bound Stormling (Air-Elite)

Traits: Fast, evasive, deals Air + Lightning damage, vulnerable to grounding or Water-based disruption
HP: Moderate
Special: May phase into cloudform (dodging physical attacks), empowered by wind tunnels

Nyra hovers beside you, awaiting command.

You must choose how to engage:

  1. Direct Weave: Open with a powerful hybrid or Water-based spell to disrupt its stormform
  2. Use terrain: Lure it into a narrow crevice where its flight is restricted
  3. Nyra Empower: Use her new ability to supercharge an Air/Spirit spell (free EP cost)
  4. Channel Weave Fusion (1/long rest – Ready): Create a new powerful 3-element spell to overwhelm it
  5. Attempt Binding: Risky ritual to rebind the Stormling to the shrine using Spirit+Air (requires Will check)

You brace yourself against the swirling air as the Bound Stormling circles overhead, shrieking with elemental fury. Rather than strike it down, you reach toward the shrine—the broken sigil, the etched bindings. You recall Halwen’s teachings, and your fingers instinctively trace the Veil's currents through your Codex.

Spirit meets Air. Intent meets ritual.

“Nyra,” you murmur. “Hold it steady.”

The flicker familiar zips upward, casting blinding pulses of prismatic light. The Stormling falters mid-flight, its form flickering between cloud and feathered shape.

You begin the Binding Rite, weaving Spirit into your voice and Air into your breath. The shrine responds faintly—just enough.

Skill Check – Willpower (Spirit + Air): SUCCESS (Spirit 10 + Air 3 + Codex Bond)

The Stormling shrieks one final time before its body collapses into mist. But the mist doesn’t flee—it funnels, spiraling into the shrine’s sigil like wind returning home.

When the light fades, the shrine pulses with quiet energy. A shard of wind crystal floats before you, humming with captured power.

Story Update – Day 10, Late Afternoon
Location: Skyrun Cliffs – Windward Crest
Status: HP: 26 / 26 | EP: 16 / 16 | Fatigue: Cleared | Nyra: Active (Bond Deepened)


You find a quiet ledge just above the shrine’s stone spire, wind curling in slow, lazy spirals across the sky. With the storm stilled and the cliffs now silent, you sit cross-legged and call softly:

“Nyra. Let’s talk.”

The flicker familiar flutters down from above, her wings shimmering with a faint pulse of the stormling’s dissipated energy. She lands gently in front of you, tilting her head like a curious bird.

You open your Codex, letting the Unified Bond glow faintly. The glyphs ripple—responding not to elements, but to companionship, to shared purpose. Nyra hums in reply. The air around you warps momentarily, just enough to let your minds touch at a deeper level.

Visions flicker: flashes of her birth in a realm between air and spirit, where stray thoughts become form… a tether of light that drew her to you during your first encounter with the Echoing Veil… the moments of trust built battle by battle.

Then, clarity.

Bond Strengthened – Nyra’s Flickerform evolves.
She now gains access to Whisperglide:

  • Grants silent movement and a short-range blink once per encounter.
  • Can carry a message or emotion to a target within 60 ft (1/day).

Her voice, faint but clear, enters your mind for the first time:
“You gave me shape. Now let me carry your will farther.”


Codex Update: Familiar Bond – Nyra (Flicker Spirit)

  • Active Abilities:
    • Gale Pulse – Wind burst that interrupts flying foes (1/rest)
    • Whisperglide – Blink + Silent movement; Message carry (1/day)
  • Passive: Slight EP regen bonus when Nyra is active and nearby
  • Emotional link now stable: You can sense extreme distress, joy, or warnings from her at any distance

Your bond feels sacred. Not summoned, not owned—but allied.

Codex Insight: Spiritborne Kinship – You may now craft Spirit+Air hybrid Weaves that involve familiars or incorporeal motion.

And not wanting to upset our Battleship overlords, but anyone else notice our Air affinity was 5, we got a +1, and now it is 4? Did we have temp buffs or something? Not sure it is worth asking about incase we upset it.
