What happens to a warder when his Aes Sedai is stilled?

Recommended Posts

I just re-read the battle of Dumai's Wells and it got me thinking what happens to the warder of a stilled sister? The two events that come to mind with stilling happen there and when Siuan  is deposed. For Siuan and Leanne their warders were killed in the battle, and I didn't see any mention of what happened the the warders of the stilled sisters at Dumai's.

So is the warder bond broken? Does the sudden break cause as much emotional harm to the warder as it does the sister?

Just curious if there is a scene I can't think of that answers this, or if RJ or BS ever answered the question.

Interesting question! I can't recall either if anyone has explained that anywhere.

I'm actually just rereading that book, so I'll keep an eye out for any mention of anything.

My first instinct is to say it would have the same effect as death, on the Warder.

As I recall, and I just finished a re-read last year, stilling breaks the bond as thoroughly as the Sister being killed. While Siuan and Leanne's warders were going to be killed anyway I believe there was some small mention of them going beserk after the stilling.

I'll have to read LoC again (on about my sixth full re-read and I'm just into Fires of Heaven), but a quick google suggests that one of Irgain Fatamed's warders died on the spot when Rand stilled her during his escape, and another went beserk in the killing rage more commonly alluded to in other cases (Gareth Bryne as an example, and only the Compulsion inherent in the bond-passing that Moiraine had set up on Lan's bond transfer to Myrelle stopped Lan from similar IIRC).

Martine Janata's warder died where he stood in the aftermath of her being burned out during study of Ter'angreal.
