This sounds like right place and time for a thread devoted to things to eat around

the campfire (or outdoors while sitting in a camp). We have a few places/businesses

here locally that make homemade sourdough bread, and it is amazing! IMO Every great meal

starts with bread. What are some of your favorite campfire recipes or meals you prep if

you're going to be on the go?

I sure do! I have this one that I prepare before a campout that you all might enjoy.

You can finish cooking it on either a grill or a campfire. It's a favorite here in the South

because you can throw (or "jamble") in anything left over. I like to use chicken, shrimp,

and some andouille sausage. You could even use just veggies as well. It's like our version

of Fried Rice.

Thanks for the invitation MG @Cairos ... camping is a favorite activity.  One of my favorite campfire morning meals is "Eggs in a bag"

https://www.instructables.com/Eggs-in-a-Bag/

Usually, I (or the designated camp cook) will prep all the fixings and then the campers line up and make their own "scrambled eggs in a bag to order".  One of the best parts is there is very little clean up!

How about you @Andy MacLeod, do you have any favorite campfire recipes?

Ooh, that sounds handy, @Donchadh! And yummy. The lack of clean up will make it very popular with the Novices, haha!

Thank you MC @Cairos. If not the mouth-watering andouille sausage from @ThorkinBarrimore, I would absolutely love lamb chops with some herbs and salt... Hmmmm...

But what I make most often over a campfire are packets! Not the "important paper collated together" kind of packet... though sometimes I'm sure it is tempting to 'jamble' those! But the salmon-tomatoes-potatoes kind 😋

They did a test here where they took 100% lamb kebab from around Amsterdam and tested what kind of meat it was. 15 samples and shockingly only one from a mobile stall at the market was 100% lamb. All the others had chicken and beef, and two even had pork, which for something advertised as halal is pretty shocking.

Cannot trust anyone these days, not even a doner kebab.

Edit: now I'm hungry for kebab...

Oh, yeah Gyros in Greece is fantastic. They don't fill the pita but just fold it around. Turkish doner is a bit different as it has a lot more salad and less meat than you get in Europe. Quite a different dish. Iskender doner is good though and all the other kebabs. 😋 Very tasty part of the world to visit.

I remember having a doner in Turkey and it had fries in it. It was good too. I love Mediterranean food. I love food in general lol.

Really? Are you sure it wasn't Gyros? They always stick a few fries in. Never seen that in traditional Turkish food. Though I have only been there twice so I am by no means encyclopedic.

But yeah food is good. On the other side of Greece you get fantastic pasta dishes and stews flavoured with cinnamon.

Would really like to go to Italy one day. Nearly booked a cruise from Venice to Barcelona. That would be pretty sweet.

You should totally do the cruise. Been to Italy 3 times already. My favorite pasta is Pasta Carbonara. Its so good with the bacon or guanciale. The food is a little different tasting to American's for sure. I love pasta. YUM!

it depends on time, place, BAC,and mood. Taco truck will be soft corn tortillas, home would be hard fried in the pan with meat, cheese etc. Inside.mom and pop shop could be a variety like a buffet, lol. Tipsy means probably  taco bell which is the US equivalent of a kebab at end of night.

That isn't even counting the rolled taco,  or as its sometimes called taquito.

Now I really want tacos. Curse you, lol.

it's all good, but dang I want a 🌮

From this ignorant Europeans perspective, in general here (well UK and NL at least), tacos nearly universally refers to taco shells - which while not horrible are a real pain to eat and are not a touch on tortillas. spar-taco-shells-135-Gram-1940872-3518.jpg.cf72b3ff657aa9895ce43a0bb13e179d.jpg

Oh yeah, the taco shells are like the ones from Taco Bell. From the taco trucks or Mexican restaurants, they had the corn tortillas or the flour ones. I do like both types of tortillas.
