Unless you mean a little bit ago as in the last few hours, in which case you'll have to quote it for me?  I don't remember seeing you bring it up after yesterday afternoon.

Alright, I feel better about the Darthe vote and thinking it's funny afterwards.

@ Ben if you are town you need to start the readjustment now, because I don't intend for us to lose this game over a nearly-intro-phase tunnel. Ask me what you need to ask me and let's walk through it and get your head back on the right track. I don't want to hear a bunch of "I can't trust anything you say because wolves can say anything" crap. That's not really how Mafia works and everyone has a limit to their scum range; that's why players get to be as good as confirmed villagers before there are any flips on the table. See: Sooh. If you have any intention of voting me in this game in the future, talk to me until you don't.

Okay, let's start with why townShad would begin that way. Go.

Still not feeling better about this, though.

I have. I thought this phase had ended with Sooh's flip. Are we still on Night, then?

No, it's day phase.Turin claimed exactly what Shad said he did, and for exactly the reasons Shad said, I'm not sure there's any benefit to really questioning Turin.  Your question to him made me wonder if you didn't see the claim or if you did and had some reason to believe he was still worth checking out today.

Then why didn't he die? He said he would commit suicide at the end of the phase. The phase ended. He's still here, apparently with a D2 pass, and he didn't even post a gif to "earn" it.

Vote Count

Shad_ - 1 - Gentled Ben

Turin Turambar - 1 - Tiinker

Tiinker - 1 - Turin Turambar

Darthe - 2 - Sooh, Shad_

No Lynch - 1 - BFG

5 to lynch

Deadline in 4 minutes

Not voting: Verbal, Darthe, Clov.

Trying to make sense of this lynch is not easy. I feel like it gives us such useless information. I can't even blame Shad for the outcome because a random lynch between 4 targets with one person on each train would be soo bad.I'm wariest of Verb and Clov for not voting and BFG for voting no lynch which imo is a bad play almost always unless you're near end game. The way that whole thing progressed just made it look like scum were just waiting around rather than actually trying to do anything.

Yes, this is a good point.

If BFG's a wolf then the wagonomics kind of go out the window, because she only voted No Lynch after the Darthe lynch was secured.

This is also just such a weird play. I might say that it's potentially her just trying to look like she's contributing somehow but having no lynch on the table that round just provides another good alternative for scum? It doesn't make any sense.

No, she's my strongest town read, and it's still fairly light. This is a tough game so far.

That is really odd to me. Has this changed?

IRT bolded: If she was scum, why wouldn't she vote for another town and tie the trains with two town wagons? Surely there was a townie with a vote on them. She could have ensured that a townie died without piling onto Darthe or drawing attention to herself with a no lynch vote. It seems like an odd play to make as scum, especially when I was the only one giving her a town lean at the time. Why do something bold, and strange if you're scum, and all but one player suspect you of being scum? Then, she is right out front for awhile engaging in RT discussions with Chris.

So no, it hasn't really changed, but it is not much of a town lean.

Because if she's going to vote for town she'd have to build a case at least and as far as I can remember she wasn't skeptical of myself, Turin or Shad. I think her coming out and voting one of us over the AFK Darthe to tie trains would've looked super weird.

Then at the very least, she could have simply not voted, especially after she suggested it, and no one wanted to join her. Why stick out like that as a wolf? Is it really that hard to throw a vote on you, seeing as you hadn't been much more present than Darthe? I don't remember her giving you a town read prior to that.

In my previous post I mentioned that the people who I was most wary of were the people who did not vote because it looked like scum were just waiting for town to screw themselves. I feel like her not doing anything could've come across just as sketchy seeing as she was participating in the thread. I might be tunneling a bit too hard here but I still favour my view right now.

This sounds like nonsense to me. If you did it to gauge Chris and BFG, you should have directed it at them. Your reasoning is simply " I want to be the center of attention." I don't think that's outside your ability as scum, and since we just finished a game as scum, it makes sense to me that you would try to throw me off balance this game and then hope that my off-balanced play would give you something to discredit me going forward. It is too easy to set up the "Look how cautious I was last game" argument. Even I am capable of playing opposite of the last game, as evidenced by my last two scum games, and you are much more nuanced at this than I am right now.

sigh

Chris and BFG have nothing to do with any of this but I'm probably not taking the correct approach to conveying information to you so that's on me.

Regarding scum!Shad would play the exact opposite of his last game in order to throw us off

I told you not to do this.

It's just not how the real world works.

In the real world players have limits defined by their personalities/skills/self-perception/awareness/etc and can't just play however they want whenever they want.

As I said, it's why we can do things like state that Sooh is a villager with near absolute certainty in the absence of any flips.

A lot of players make this sort of assumption, but it's highly misguided and it will do you a lot of good to not get stuck in that manner of thinking.

Ask most of the people in this game.

sick NAI x-post

What's NAI

We both simultaneously said that BFG tying the trains in that scenario would be weird AF.

It's just an obvious truth.

@ Chris it's pretty much the entirety of p32.

Strung out across a dozen posts with BFG responding along the way

You actually posted right at the bottom of it heh

I think Ben also was the one giving Tiink cred for his thoughts. Or was that the other way around?

I feel like people mis-read that post. I liked his analysis of Shad in general, but I didn't agree that that was what was happening in this game and I actually thought he might have been misrepresenting the situation and it wasn't a great look at the time.

I don't believe this. I am capable of playing differently from game to game, and I doubt if I am that much better at mafia than everyone else on this board who claims that they cannot alter their playstyle. This is a guessing game with acting thrown in. Everyone can act. If your town game is to come out wild and crazy like Steve Martin, then you would have been lynched immediately in your last scum game. Since your last scum game looked like your town game, and this game looks different, you are capable of changing how you play.

Also I overlooked this on first read because it completely missed my point, but you need to think about the game in context boo. I focused on you out the gate because you haven't seen my town game before and we just finished an intense scum game together. Town!you had the least awareness of my game of anyone on this roster, so I had the most opportunity to generate read-relevant responses from you (which I certainly succeeded at doing). Consider, in contract, Sooh just blowing me off because she'd seen it a dozen times before.

The debate between BFG and Chris came substantially later in the game. I can't react to p30 on p5.

And I have been really obnoxiously persistent in putting BFG to the question about her read on me, so ?

Believe it or not, memory isn't perfect and if you pet people gently and tell them what they want to hear they'll usually believe you for a while even if it's completely atypical behavior for you.

Like, even in real life. Think about any asshole you've ever known who buttered you up to get what they wanted. You believed them even though it was totally unorthodox behavior.

Obviously there are a ton of elements that will persist throughout both alignments because the same human being is playing the game. Those are the things we try to ignore.

Once you've played Mafia for a while, you will begin to discover that certain people read you like a book. They aren't cheating. It's because like all other human beings you cannot perfectly replicate your town game.

If you think you can, it's because you haven't played long enough to realize you can't yet.  You'll get there.

Yeah you'll meet people who lie and at least subconsciously play against their wincons for the sake of 'preserving their scum games'.  We lynch these people on D1 and move on with life.

There's the fun butt heads with everyone and generate information and form opinions on the fly stage and then the boring as both alignments actually force yourself to reread and look at it from a distance stage

I didn't know I needed to.  I thought my previous answer said enough.

The former has left me thinking you feel good but I don't know what you're fully capable of and BFG doesn't trust you and if you trust BFG I'm not sure to make of that and

BFG isn't playing as I expect her to but I need to set that aside sooner or later and look at the broad scope of it before passing judgement and

I want more from Tiink because I feel good about him on a level that I think he can fool me at and

Verbal hasn't been around for a while and is fading from my memory and

Ben is probably just a misguided villager but his lack of broader focus still bugs me on some level

Posted

Everything is a work in progress basically, with Verbal slipping down the POE probably just because I've talked to him less recently.

This isn't an answer.

And the latter is thinking hopefully I can make up my mind on BFG on ISO and hopefully if that conclusion is town she'll ramp up a bit and hopefully someone can claim something because town lovers is rough in a 9p if all we have to balance it is a doctor and

words

uh

I just want to get back to reading my book really
