What was really going through my head was the need to take down a villager before Dice so BFG would be forced to scum-side if she was lying about the F6 wincon.

I wrote something after D2 that I want to share, mainly for Nyn's sake. It's not meant to shame anyone, but rather perhaps to inspire discussion and to explain my actions.

I really want to stress what I said in the midst of it all. It's super important that you use your game host as a moderator if you are offended in a game. We have the distinct advantage that we can discretely figure out intent, and in most cases because we're a close knit community that knows one another well we can accurately figure out if anything was meant insultingly or not. Please PRIVATELY message your host if you feel insulted. It will keep our games so much nicer.

 

I didn't like the decision I was forced to make D2 in this game. Nyn's initial post was a quote from a popular tv show, nothing more. She didn't mean to insult anyone with it, but rather use it as a sort of a tongue in cheek comment. She couldn’t know that it would be so offensive to someone. It was unfair that only she should be punished for what was essentially escalated by several parties. It was, however, the easiest solution, given that she was in a hydra and the other half could continue alone.

 

The alternative, which I considered, would be to end the game there and then. Given the survivor's wincon I couldn't modkill more slots, and I don't think that would have been a good solution for anyone.

 

Ultimately I feel like I made the best decision possible at the time, but I'm sorry that Nyn had to suffer for this.

 

I hope that we can make something good come out of this, in that we might possibly come to an agreement that we should allow the hosts to take care of perceived insults and not drag that into the thread. Mafia is a heated game. We're essentially just screaming at one another and accusing others of lying, when the only thing they're guilty of is that they've received a message saying they're part of the informed minority. At the end of the day, I hope that we can walk away from games feeling like we've been actually playing a GAME, not something deadly serious.

 

 

In addition to that, the Darthe modkill:

 

N1 was a pretty bad night seen with the mafia's eyes. Not only did they hit the one person with a BPV, they were also peeked and Darthe was essentially derp clear on the basis of his series of night posts. In order to re-balance the game some I decided to go with a modkill to at least give the mafia a fighting chance. 

 

Other questions or comments about moderation or balance are welcome. I know some of you felt that a survivor with a F6 wincon was perhaps not basic enough. I'm taking that with me for next time I'll run a game.

I think the F6 wincon is just fine.  Survivor is one of the hardest wincons in the book.  Town does lose a lynch over it, but the BPV gives at least some balance to that (and god it's way better than a Serial Killer if you want to go 3p).  In general I think a Survivor should always get a BPV anyway, so yeah, I don't think I'd change anything.  It was certainly within the scope of a Basic game and appropriately predictable.  (I was able to correctly call that town didn't have other powers besides the cop once she revealed.)

From the standard seer setup town have lost quite a lot (~lose a lynch, N0 peek, SHC) but I don't think town have lost that setup on DM so maybe that setups too town sided now
