Sometimes even when you've fought your best....

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God's timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We've all felt the love that you've been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn't. I haven't. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn't exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God's name.

Editor's Note:

The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan's family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.

I started reading the Wheel of Time when my mother was first diagnosed with cancer. I hated everything at that time and these books gave me hope. I had lost my faith, almost my will to live, but Mr. Jordan gave that back to me. I always hoped I would be able to tell him that in person, but alas, the Lord called him home. I want to offer my condlences to those he left behind, and the hope that his story, personal and fictional, will inspire generations to come. I am truly sorry for the loss we have all recieved.

May he shelter in the palm of the Creator's hand, and may the last embrace of the mother welcome him home.

Thank you for everything Mr. Jordan.

RJ - what an amazing, inspirational man. His writings taught me that anyone can stand up to the greatest of adversities - it helped me get through my toughest days.

My condolences go out to his family and friends. May God be with you.

Thanks RJ.

Deepest condolences to the family. His books have been a constant companion through the last 12 years.

I have a vision of him and the late David Gemmell up there regaling their stories in the clouds.

When I first heard the news last night, I cried.

Now that this devastating thing has had 24 hours to set in, I find myself here, posting this as I sob for the loss of a great man.

Though I never got the chance to meet him, I feel as though in Mr. Jordan's passing that I have lost a friend very dear to my heart.

I can't imagine what his friends and family are going through right now, but my condolences and prayers are with you all.

Never again shall I attempt to touch the Source with any hope of succeeding,

In Christ's Love,

Matthew

Death is always a sad thing, but let's not remember the sadness of RJ passing but the brightness of his life.

Thank you, Harriet, for not cutting much out of his last several books. While critics think the story rambled and the verbiage unnecessary, it gave us a chance to get a little closer to James' mind, and therefore his heart. I'm happy that he wasn't balefired out of our pattern, as the threads he wove mean much to us and to those of the future.

I'm reminded of the movie "Big Fish." I only know him through his stories, but I'm lucky to have been able to see the world through his eyes, if only a little bit.

I am deeply saddened to find out about this. I was full of hope that he would be among us for at least three years more if not 30!

My condolences to his family and friends. I can only wish I new this great man personally and I hope you cope well with his passing. I am thankful for the joy and happiness he has brought me with his outstanding writing, he will be missed...

My deepest condolences to Harriet, Wilson and the family. He was a great writer and a noble and strong man. He touched us all by his writings and by the example of loyalty, love and courage that he has always shown in life. It was a privilege to meet him in person during his last two book tours. I will always treasure the coloring book he signed for my then four year old (who followed the grownups' example of handing out books to be signed). My son is now almost 9 and already a fan - we are reading the books together...

May he rest in peace.

Like many, I only wish I could have known this incredible man on a personal level. We are fortunate that he has left so much of himself behind for those like myself to appreciate. I can not imagine the loss of those close to him. I know many tears will be shed, but I also know that he has brought many, many more smiles, and will continue to do so in thoughts, words, and memories. He has done more than his share of good for the world, may his spirit rest in eternal bliss and peace.

To Harriet, Wilson, and the rest of the Rigney Family,

I am terribly sorry for the loss you must feel. "When the winds of Tarmon Gai'don (Amyloidosis) scour[ed] the earth, he [James] faced the shadow and brought forth Light again in the world."

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting James in his endeavors and giving all of us an opportunity to share him with you over the last 17+ years as he worked on the Wheel of Time.

In spite of his passing, I do hope this Blog will remain open, and you (Wilson), can periodically update us on the lives of the Rigney family. Over the last year I think many of us have grown more attached to you and Harriet, and I'm sure there are some of us who would like to be kept up to date on both of your well-being.

With Much Sorrow,

Jeromy Walsh

I just want to say how sorry I and mine are for the whole Rigney clan. The world has lost a premier story teller and a great man. I hope in time his family can take some solace in the fact that his story will live on and entertain generations of fans. I have been a Robert Jordan fan Conan the Invincible and my all time favorite Conan book is his Conan the Magnificent. With the Wheel of Time he put himself in the company of J.R.R. Tolkien, John Norman, (Gor) and Robert E. Howard himself. Just know the whole fantasy community grieves with Harriet and family.

I cannot properly express my shock and sadness.

Nothing can cut deeper than the death of a loved one, so I wish Harriet the strength she needs to continue on through this dark time. The thoughts and prayers of thousands, even millions of people will be with you in the hard days to come. The world is a poorer place after today's loss.

With love and gratitude for half a lifetime of wonderful adventures,

I love you and your family so much, RJ/James; I don't think there are many people in one's life that touch you in a way that make you realize that all life is beautiful, filled with love, and holds no boundaries, borders, or judgements. What a beautiful thing for you to teach all of your devoted fans and family members. I will forever and ever be grateful that I was blessed enough to live in the same lifetime as such a strong and vivacious soul as yours.

I can't wait to meet you in heaven :)

Love, Becky Wilmes

Ah! A great loss! Hard to believe he's gone. We were told over and over how well he was doing.

What about the last book, though? Will it ever get finished? I've been reading/stuck on this series for 13 years. I need an End!

So sad, it's always hard when a great writer passes.
