  1. Much the same as the interactions with some of the other Seanchan "exotics" and their handlers (morat') - pity they do not have the CGI budget to show these for comparison.
  2. Not quite no book, we are often treated to the description of their bucket and prisoners generally get a bit of exercise or such. Or we get a nice graphic (to some degree) description of the smell, like Rand's box. Thankfully I have never come across a description of the bucket being used, just not needed, imho. GOT did treat us to Tyrion and Varys complaining to each other about having to dispose of Tyrion's shit while he was locked in his box.
  3. Could be a cheap way to introduce the problems when an Aiel is caught between two competing Toh's - as may happen if Avi is summoned away to meet her Toh to her people. If they introduce Gaul as taking on the Toh to Perrin the problem is solved and a lesson given to the viewer (although they may have to illustrate this in sections over 4-5 episodes taking over an hour of exposition😀).
  4. Indeed they could not be since she was sworn to "speak no word that is not true". As to the rest: It might have been better to take the 4th horse with them - but dragging a horse at speed through the woods in the dark is not safe for the led horse or the rider leading it. Moiraine is a expert horsewoman and would be able to balance the risks. She did her best to convince (without being able to compel) the ostler to flee without stopping to Tar Valon - Lanfear would have realised the bluff long before that and while she is short tempered and spiteful she would not be likely to hunt her down later. She might also be aware that Lanfear is not likely to be an expert rider and would chase too fast, knackering her horse and leaving the ostler moving her weight over 3 according to their strength easily able to keep ahead. At least this time the minor character doing something foolish out of sentiment is a woman (compared to the ferry owner in E2).
  5. It also fits with the books - each of the forsaken embraced their chosen name and was offended, angered or dismissive when referred to by their original name (other than Asmodean when he offered it after being defeated by Rand - but at the time he was too despondent about being trickle shielded to care).
  6. It fits the physical description of the one in the books but that was definitely an angreal (weak enough that Rand felt it was safe to use after having problems using calandor) not a major sa'angreal - so either they have upped its power or Moiraine was in error in describing the level of increase it offered.
  7. The great holding of Tear to be exact - he needed it to activate the portal stone that took them to Rhuidean.
  8. It is book normal for Seanchan blood to directly address those close to them in degree (and Turok is only fractionally higher than Suroth as evidenced by the same number of lengthened fingers, although his completely shaved head suggests very high rank) and "ignore" that the conversation will be overheard by those too low to be directly addressed. A Tuon POV chapter shows her being able to directly address a King instead of using her voice to make a public announcement in front of assembled officers and nobles of the return.
  9. She would surely have criticised book Moghedien as cowardly and book Semirhage as insane so perhaps they are conflating those two and making Moghedien the master torturer.
  10. "the boys" not "the twins" - presumably Samael, Demandred and Asmodean as hinted in the figurines in S1.
  11. To be fair the books also misdirected as to what the taint is as well (with various characters referring to it as "the dark one's counterstroke" as if that was some active effort by the DO when in practice it was the inevitable effect of trying to seal the bore with the one power). Probably due to long term misdirection efforts by Ishamael to reduce the chances of the dragon (when reborn) working out a workable method of re-sealing the bore properly.
  12. A powerful tool, but also if you catch one in a deliberate lie than you should know something is very wrong. Except most of us spend the time when someone else is speaking deciding what we want to say rather than recording the speech for later comparison to see if it contains "a word that is not true". Although Mat really should have noticed that Liandrin's sarcasm in the scene where he wakes up to find her standing over him most certainly was her breaking the oaths (sarcasm should not make an untrue statement permissible). Personally I would be tempted to see if using sarcasm around Aes Sedai annoys them as it should be permanently denied to them.
  13. They showed how the brash reckless Theon was broken into Reek - in the books this was shown in retrospect via Reek's internal POV thinking (and shying away from thinking) about what was done to him. A necessary change for TV to show how hard it was for him to recover himself. I would not characterise that as a change just to keep the character on screen.
  14. The principle objection to the end of the Liandrin / 3 girls action in this episode is that it was daft to knock them all out just due to Elaine wanting to tell on them. Dragging them all the way to Toman Head as prisoners is a silly way to go when at least 2 of them would go willingly and Liandrin can tell them (and be believed because AS cannot lie) that she will return Elaine to the tower later. Liandrin knows that if Nynave gets angry enough she can overcome Liandrin's shield. If this is where they introduce forkroot that might be some way to deal with it.
  15. Anvere Damodred - Alviairin is a different character (book - not yet seen in TV series).
  16. Yes! So grateful someone else noticed this and agrees. I felt the same. Not much of a violation as Lan stole it from Moiraine who had first tricked it from Bale Domon. This kind of unscrupulous scheming for advantage is a normal feature of Aes Sedai life.
  17. That was Lean (the keeper) and Liandrin. Alviarin has yet to appear. I like the change to the gift of immortality given to the forsaken - being literally unable to die or be killed is much stronger than just lack of aging and explains much better why they seek this status and seek to undermine each other in round about ways only (and why sealed away individually instead of killed in the AOL). Also a good TV choice as it avoids the need for changing actors in a reincarnation. Looks like for both Min and Perrin Ishmael is seeking to prevent them from using their gift against his plans.
  18. Yes the Tinker who she sees is going to die, then thinks has avoided that fate thanks to Perrin, only to see her die anyway. Or it might be Perrin that thinks he has beaten the vision thinking about it? We do not see Min's POV at that point, only Perrin's. She does briefly say that the tinker's scalp injury during the earthquake might fit the vision but it is not clear whether she believes it or is just calming Perrin. When she is (much) later musing on a vision that she now thinks cannot come true it is due to thinking Moiraine dead. That is after meeting Rand in Caemlyn.
  19. Not in The Dragon Reborn - much later when she thinks Moiraine is dead so her vision of Moiraine marrying Thom cannot come true.
  20. She appeared to start channeling at the end of the fade fight (weaves started to appear) when it was clear Lan had lost and then stopped when Verin and Thomas arrived. She may be feigning in some way or need total desperation to break through the shield.
  21. Masema tries to prevent Uno from lashing out in the "bow to me or else" scene and appears far more controlled than book Masema - although he has not yet had the opportunity to exhibit any violent anti-Aiel prejudice.
  22. He comes very close to defeating 2 Fades at once (in darkness where they can use their shadowstep freely) - his achievement of actually beating 2 at once in the last book was clearly recognised by all those who saw it as a near superhuman achievement (and he had spent much of the preceding year in intensive sword training). He also demonstrates the level of commitment he summed up in the prequel "the time to quit is after you are dead".
  23. The books refer to Seanchan as having a slow, drawling way of speech which was widely considered to be sounding something like a Texan accent. The other distinctions drawn were more in relation to patterns of words (Illianers refering to themselves in the third person and inserting "do" or "do no", lower class Tarboners inserting an unnecessary "the" and using the pattern "you (insulting thing) you", sea folk using various nautical turns of phrase and insults). Most nations also appear to have particular hairstyles and facial hair mentioned (the latter appears to be ignored in the TV show as Bayl Domon has been shown without the distinctive bare upper lip of Illianers) as well as particular fashions such as Taraboners wearing veils or seafolk with multiple ear and nose piercings (which the show has applied to multiple non-sea folk characters).
