  1. You seem to think there is a difference between police and government - if I'm reading your comment correctly. I appreciate and respect police officers. There are bad ones, but society could not function without them. And they are government.
  2. I comment on what I experience - and unfortunately, those I named are part of my experience. I'm glad wherever you are from has an altruistic government that protects minors from their parents. Just recently an Ohio father called the police because his 11-year-old daughter had been groomed and tricked into sending photos of herself to a man. The government representatives arrived and threatened to arrest the 11-year-old for producing child pornography. Just a father trying to protect his daughter from a predator (and perhaps protect other vulnerable children in the process), but the benevolent government representatives had a better idea.
  3. I pick up more every time through. Something new jumps out at me. Discussions here help as well. Sometime I do a great Homer Simpson sized 'DOH' - how could I not see that. But even when I disagree, it pushes me closer to decision on something I didn't understand or notice before.
  4. I never thought of the Seanchan as controlled by Rand - though he did secure grudging cooperation. I'm on my next readthrough - just finished the tGH. I will have to remember to look for the ripples you describe. I never thought of the balefire being used on that scale before the Last Battle. Very interesting concept - to me.
  5. And when the government is people like Fetterman, Trump, Menendez, Giuliani, Biden, Boebert, Feinstein, etc... These are the people you want protecting children? Not saying there is never a reason for intervention, but blanket oversight rarely leads to best outcomes in the majority of cases. They help some, harm others, and are probably close to neutral for the majority. Anyway, back on topic. I'm thinking the TV show will help get the names out there more. Per my initial response in this thread, I have never run across a Randland name in the wild.
  6. And my point was that this story was modeled after life. The best laid plans of the mighty and the low often do not come to fruition during their life. But if a fictional heroine’s death frustrates you - my condolences…
  7. Yes, she had planned to do all you said. She was cut down before those things were realized. But she inspired many on both sides of the Tower rift. And they will likely accomplish many of Egwene's goals because of her selfless example and sacrifice. She planted a seed. They will succeed to a greater or lesser extent, and in some areas they will fail or go against her vision. But we don't know, nor can we, how successful Egwene would have been either. Losing main characters sucks - really? That is life. That is reality. Stick with children's books or the Hallmark channel if you want a happy ending. How much more could MLK or JFK have done if their lives had not been cut short. Or how about the young person just leaving college or starting their first 'real' job with great hopes and aspirations to improve the world = but their life is ended by a thug wanting drug money or they made a stupid decision to drink and drive while celebrating. It sucks, but it is real. I don't see how Egwene's death makes the books less. Life is pain. Life is joy. Be prepared for both. How you react is your choice.
  8. And the White Tower was content to let her have all this free time instead of battering down her block. They go on and on about how few girls come to the tower and the lack of power of those that do come. Yet - let's let her play with the warders. I don't buy it. She didn't go as far with Liandrin, but she was still rude: "What are you doing here?" And without the Aes Sedai honorific. If she is rude with these two, she is rude with others (likely). No trips to Sheriam.
  9. I went in hopeful and came out deflated. CGI and overall visuals were improved over S1. I understand the need for changes in the adaptation and even like some. But too many I don't like, understand, or agree with. The show is definitely not for me. Nynaeve training with the warders for 5 months - shouldn't she be working on her block? Nynaeve open rudeness to sisters with no punishment Lan - I have no problem with Daniel's acting or fitness (beast!), but he looks like he's had his sword for two days not his entire life Moiraine - a 'broken' Aes Sedai plays cat-and-mouse with a Fade before killing it with a dagger Domon - silly, but the moustache was an unnecessary change. Very small, but they add up Fade fight - though two have already been killed, whenever the remaining Fades have an advantage they pose and loom rather than finishing the kill I hope those that are enjoying the show continue to do so. It is the books for me. Wish I could love both...
  10. Welcome to the party. Some think very much like you, others the opposite and some trying to ride the fence. Personally, I lean more toward that Rafe is making unneeded changes. Haven't watched S2 yet, but from S1 I liked some changes: Mat's family having Coplin/Congar type problems, Logain being introduced early, Moiraine using the inn to crush trollocs... Others I can't get on board with: Ninja Nynaeve, untrained (or minimally trained) channelers pulling off the miraculous, Perrin's wife, Borderlanders being suspicious of Aes Sedai, etc...
  11. LOL. Guess I should hold my questions until I watch the show (tonight). Didn't realize two fades had at him. They changed the deadliness of Mat's dagger. Can't say I'm surprised if they did the same to the Fade weapons.
  12. My assumption was that since the bowl accessed saidin, that men were involved in creation of the bowl.
  13. Thought the bowl accessed saidin. Wouldn't that require men? Either way, can't have the climate changing... 🤣
  14. Did he take a beating because he is no longer linked to Moiraine? His fighting ability diminished because he's dealing with the severed link?
  15. Agreed, narrator not good. Interesting changes they outlined.
  16. Reviews, good or bad, don't matter overmuch to me. I read them and find them interesting, but the only review that really matters is mine. 😎
  17. Biggest problem with the fight scene for me (other than the look of the trollocs) - A trolloc was charging Moiraine from behind, Lan sees this and throws a large dagger at the trolloc. I'll give Lan the kill in this fun choreographed fantasy battle, but the trolloc flew backwards! There is no way.
  18. Not for me - I have to work early tomorrow. So Friday after work is the best I can do. Enjoy!!
  19. I don't think that was the intent. Verin's arc was awesome but Ingtars' arc resolves much sooner.
  20. If that was the Blood Snow, then yes.
  21. Ha. It will only take me a day to watch all of S1 - the wife works Sat, Sun, Mon this weekend...
