  1. No, Fain most deffinitely lost the battle. He never achieved the reason he was present at Thakan'dar in the first place. It also supports Min's viewing that all three must be at Tar'mon Gaidon or all is lost. The fight at Thakan'dar is this very fight, since Lanfear's attack is at the exact same moment as Fain's attack, and Rand grabbing the DO.  This requires both Mat and Perrin to counter. It also means the Light's defenses had totally collapsed by then, thanks to the rampaging Wild Hunt. As for the winner of the Last Battle, it was clearly shared between Mat, Egwene and Lan, considering the Last Battle was at the time a secondary engagement being fought at Merrilor, and won just a few days before, so Rand could do what he had to without Demandred or M'hail storming through the location and killing him. The distortions around Shayol Ghul actually helped to stop those possibilities from happening.

  2. I have read the books and loved them, however, I have had a thought after watching Nae'blis's Youtube video on the Dragon Prophecies. In the comments, I had a little exchange about them, and it got me thinking. This could have been asked before too, so I apoligise in advance.

In part of the line in the Prophecy at the beginning of Lord of Chaos, these three words "The unstained tower" got me thinking....Does this fit the White Tower at Dumai's Wells like I thought...or does it fit the Black Tower more? Does the unstained tower hint at the Turned Asha'man being stained in these three words? Also, in addition, another question: considering the Prophecies also mention a broken tower, could this be the Black Tower both times? Now the story has ended,  and taking into account the details of how the story ended, I ask, because does this hint at more than first thought?

  3. My only concern with this show, and this is something everyone should be mindful of, is if the show says Egwene is the Dragon Reborn. That to me is botching the show. I have no issues with the casting decisions. I am more worried about  the world and its mechanics like the One Power and how the characters interact with the world around them. Particularly if they make Egwene the Dragon, which completely turns the story inside out.

That causes a snowball effect on the whole story, and kills the product when the audience goes to the books to see how they did it there. Particularly after the show ends. How it performs affects any other take on the story in other mediums like animation or video games.

We have seen a lot of those projects that have been anywhere from brilliant, to average, to awful and everywhere in between.

I have my hopes for the show, but that scenario above is my biggest worry.

As for next casting announcement, I need Lan. How his actor works on screen makes or breaks Moiraine and Nynaeve both.

  4. Except, Robert Jordan wrote The Wheel of Time, some of the themes included how the views of hope, love, despair and hate were present in the story and how those views shaped the world.

I absolutely reject the theory that Rand is the Dark One. The figure of Hope and sacrifice at the Last Battle actually the figure of despair and submission?  I thought Moridin embodied those beliefs, or why enjoy his villainy?? or Ishamael's villainy for that matter. There are plenty of books that have that flipped. Those for me are depressing stories, and ones I do not like at all, and do not like the messages they show. I love and thoroughly enjoy what I read in these books.

These are stories where the worst villains eventually get what they deserve, instead of those villains walking away to get pats on the head for success. It is good to read a story that has that clear good message. It has been lost too much in other stories I have read.

  5. Yes. That is also a part of it. Because the Dark One will never stop fighting.

Incidentally, neither will the Champion of Light. It is just the details of the battles change as each one is fought. We got a glimpse of the far bigger picture with Rand fighting the Dark One directly.

  6. Except, I suspect that Ishamael says that because he knew he would be Nae'blis. The title Nae'blis locks in the outcomes of the battle if the Dark One wins. The Last Battle had that outcome, because Ishamael was in command.

Put Lanfear in that Nae'blis title, and she would rule the world with Perrin her devoted lover. That possibility would still happen, it was just that Moiraine saw that would be the most likely outcome after the docks, but Lews Therin would be in Perrin's place. The Dark One would lock in that result.

He showed Rand the possible outcomes that he showed the Forsaken. We find out during the books Demandred did not care about afterwards, just to kill the Dragon,  Asmodean just wanted to compose music and live forever, Semirhage most likely favored the Blighted world, knowing her pleasures, while all the rest liked the Compassion less world more but would be fine with the Blighted world, or any world the Dark One made, as long as they ruled forever, while Ishamael was the only one of them that favored the Nothing world.

All these outcomes were possible, but the Forsaken that favored any outcome had to be Nae'blis going into the last Battle, and assist the Dark One in defeating the Dragon Reborn. It is how he encouraged the competition between the Forsaken, however, the fight with Rand revealed how he enticed them to fight for him and submit.

  7. Jordan saying the Shadow winning a minor victory is what happened at the end of the previous Age though. The technological level of the world at that time was completely lost, saidin was tainted, the Breaking had begun and would continue for 300 years. That was actually a minor victory for him.

No matter what happens, if there are people still willing to sacrifice to stop the Dark One, then he loses. How much he loses by depends on what his followers achieve in the time he has access to the world, and how much his influence impacts the world going forwards. Rand's assessment of the Dark One just before re sealing him back up is the correct ultimate purpose of the Dark One and his relationship to the Wheel Of Time and the Pattern. I suspect the Creator also has the same relationship to both as well.

Also, to kill the Dark One without destroying Creation with him, the Creator must also be killed at some point during the events. It would be like deciding that if you eliminate Hell, then Heaven must also be eliminated, for exactly the same reason along with all that is associated with both spiritual realms for the reality around them to survive.

  8. Except the flame of tar valon is the discovery in this conflict. It perfectly balances the discovery of balefire in the War of Power. While the discovery of one weave undid an Age's achievements, it makes perfect sense for the discovery of the other weave to preserve the current Age's achievements, further showing the theme of balance.

Logain's saving those innocents is the perfect way to redeem the Asha'man, in addition to being Sealbreaker, which is a critical moment.  The seals situation is also of the theme of balance and must be included as is, since it is the summing up of the history of mistakes that have been made by the Aes Sedai over 3000 years.

If Egwene needs a Forsaken to fight against, then I suggest Mesaana surviving to the Last Battle, since she is the perfect foil for Egwene.

The three duels is critical to the Last Battle, since Demandred dominates the fight entirely, except when distracted, which the duels provide. If done well, Lan's duel could easily beat Vader's and Kenobi's duel.

Logain, I agree should be the one to take down Taim, by fighting him instead of Logain fighting Demandred.

  9. But Nyneave Healing Naeff's madness reveals that the taint is a variation of the True Power's Compulsion. We know that there are effects when it is used that does not happen with the One Power. Perhaps the Dark One did nothing, but the crossed balefire agravated the taint each time Rand channelled after that. Perhaps each time he channelled, since book two, a weave of True Power Compulsion overlaid his mind, getting worse each time. If this is true, then the balefire crossing overlaid two or three weaves of True Power Compulsion, each time Rand channelled after that moment, speeding up the sickness, which distracted Rand from going being aware of the madness from the taint. We also know that Lews Therin's voice gets more and more difficult to manage after this point as well.

  10. The problem with Gallifrey, is the Doctor on the planet always causes chaos. It ends any current threats, but his presence always sets off another event. because they cannot tell what is going on and how the Doctor is involved. The Time Lords in short only know the Doctor is at the center of every threat, and they think that stopping him ends it. We know, that he is at the center of every threat, because he is trying to stop it.

  11. Another movie I consider to be a bad movie for me is Star Trek Into Darkness. Put me off Star Trek for years after watching it. Beyond was O.K, won't touch anything going forward I hated it so much. Can only watch Wrath of Kahn in bits. Cannot watch it through any more because of JJ's putrid gutter burned rubbish, and that was my favourite sci-fi movie. Left the theatre giving it a 4/10, now 0/10. Horrible

  12. She was Sylvie. The only reason she took action was the identical reason Moghedien did to Egwene when she came across her in Tal'aran rhiod. Because Lanfear saw Egwene as a threat to her abilities. It was quite true, considering Moghedien was far superior to Lanfear in ability, and Egwene still escaped her.

  13. Emarin is the answer to your question. His House sort Aes Sedai assistance with a family member, remember? I do not think the Red Ajah would be good with male channelers, and Thom's account of his nephew is proof of that harsh treatment. Also, the reaction from the Red Ajah from hearing that rumour suggests that they did in fact accuse some of the men they gentled of being a False Dragon. Perhaps that is why Thom despised the Aes Sedai so much?? Because the Red Ajah did that to his nephew, so they did not have to take him back to the Tower like they were supposed to?

Apple doesn't seem to want everything his way, probably 19th century slavery or whatever. Pay no attention.

That would be a shame not paying attention. I like debating book stuff. Particularly when readers forget how things play out at critical moments such as this, knowing it would not end well if it did. It is good practice for real world discussions, actually. Learned tons from coming here. Many varying views on everything. Quite civil, too.

  15. That character could only be from the family that met her previously, unless a witness to them. If Julie Andrews is playing her character from the first film, then it seems to confirm my Doctor's wife theory. He has had past adventures with his other selves, like the 50th. He is the only character to do this in all of pop culture without multiverses being present in the background to explain it. Mary has to be travelling through Time, and had many adventures between films that we have not seen with different faces. Perhaps the books are those stories?

  16. Yeah! It would be like the good old days, like Sutt's clash with one of  Sanderson's crew that time. It was most entertaining, and kept me coming back. All the debates and memes and tantrums that are coming are going to be glorious. All the teasing is going to be fun.
