bummer,i was hoping for something more...accurate LOL,
i,for one,am not going to reread the entire crossroads of
twilight to find ishara's physical description(shudder),even
dancing with shaidar haran sounds more appealing.
-
kesiera, where did you find a physical description of ishara?
-
like mrs. cindy gill said,it's your read and rand IS the heart and soul
of this journey, without him there's no story...
-
i never skim,i've never even considered doing it,
having said that, perrin was always my biggest problem regarding povs,
i could barely stand him when he was single, when he married his
degenerate wife, perrin became an unbearable pathetic whiner.
one could skip his entire story arc from the end of the shadow rising
until the field of merrilor meeting without missing anything.
to be honest,i would gladly balefire their(the "dynamic duo") entire story
out of the wheel of time world if i could.
-
eguanen? did you mean egeanin?
-
correct, rand burned the illuminator's chapter house at cairhien,
when it happened, ingtar, his soldiers, mat and perrin haven't reached cairhien yet.
-
shadar logoth.

@olwena,
"so you're saying he didn't have a choice? in that case, that goes for virtually
all the actions all the characters take.'
you have asked the most crucial question regarding the wheel of time world,
i.e.did he/she have a choice?the short answer to your question is probably not,
the pattern, the ultimate corrective mechanism is in control and calling all the shots,
there is no free will in randland, maybe,if you're a nobody from caemlyn, the
pattern would let you gain a modicum of control over your decisions, maybe,
but for someone like mat? none whatsoever.
don't get me wrong,i am not defending mat, like i said to szilard in a different post,
i don't give a rat's arse about him, but(when reading the wheel of time story),
one should never ignore the pattern, the chess grandmaster of the world, playing
with everyone's lives.
in one of your previous posts you wrote this about rand and mat:"expecting everyone
to do whatever they think they should do,and not respecting that people have other plans."
what other plans?the end of the world was approaching like a freight train,so what
choices did they have?
the dragonsworn's approach was spot-on,"rand's coming was said to remove all bonds
from men.oaths shattered when he drew near, and any loyalty or alliance was secondery
to the need to serve him in this last fight for humankind."
-
lanfear doesn't crawl around anywhere, she glides, smooth and cool,
as regal as any queen.
do you have any idea where rand is heading to? and why?
-
i was wondering how long it would take you to turn up and defend mat, lol,
TAI'SHAR FINNSSSS,HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOURS.
-
being rand's friend makes perrin valuable and vulnerable at the same time,
surfing behind rand's vortex is no picnic trust me,during the first two books,
the leader of the emond's field 8 group was moiraine, halfway through the
third book is she stll in control?
-
@kesiera,
"...him winning the last battle was depending on him doing it as rand not as the dragon".
this is too simplistic, when rand returned from dragonmount he was an amalgam of rand-
lews therin-dragon reborn and champion of light, moreover, rand returned compassionate,
focused and ready,in other words,he returned the complete leader in control of every aspect
of his personality,i don't deny that his ability to feel emotions again was important, but it
wasn't enough,e.g.to save his broken force at maradon he became a one man army and
destroyed everything the shadow threw at him, rand didn't go outside the city wall and
invited the trollocs to sing kumbayah(guadalcanal diary rendition) with him.lol.

galad is old enough to remember his mother? how?
tigraine disappeared in 972ne,and i always assumed that galad was barely 1 year old
at that time, galad couldn't have been older than that.
before perrin's trial, galad told morgase that he killed valda, and she thought:'valda had
reputedly been one of the greatest swordmen alive and galad had bested him in a duel?this youth?"
morgase called galad "this youth" lol, most adults remember little before their third or fourth
birthdays,so if galad was three years old when his mother disappeared he was born in 969ne,
the meeting between morgase and galad took place in 1000ne,that would make morgase 43
and galad 31!

If i recall correctly, pam korda started this more than 20 years ago, i wonder what she's doing now.
-
Sabio,
I laughed my head off reading your post,to
Put it mildly,i am not a great admirer of
Egg-head as well.
-
are you currently reading chapter 15 or 16?
-
'amyrlin likes fishing.'
not surprising really lol, siuan sanche was born in tear as the daughter of a poor fisherman
and was probably a fishergirl herself, before she arrived at the white tower her language
was coarse and she couldn't read or write***MILD SPOILER**when someone unexpectedly
arrived at the white tower siuan said"well, this is a pot of fisherman's stew made only with the
heads.'***END OF SPOILER.
by the way, siuan sanche is about 40 years old in the beginning of our story,2 years younger
than moiraine.

@szilard,
"eg is a ta'veren."
ET TU,BRUTE?
this is uncharacteristic of you to overinflate egwene's importance and make her on par with rand .
egwene wasn't a ta'veren,she was and i quote "a spoiled,self-certain,unmitigated brat.."
directly from the dragon's mouth .
-
agreed.out of the first three, the great hunt is the best one.
"i would say that rand leveled up a few times."-YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET.
-
egwene and gawyn were married by silviana offscreen before the last battle.
sure, she was a pretty girl on the outside, but on the inside, she was exttremely ugly.
-
london calling to the faraway randland
now war is declared, the last battle come down
london calling the underworld at shayol ghul
come out of your hibernation aragem
where art thou?
got bogged down on your way to a certain fortress? lol
with a little help from the clash....
-
mb is right, min and egwene don't cross paths for a very long time,
when they finally meet,egwene is....
there's devotion,there's fanaticism,there's batshit crazy and there's masema.
-
@szilard,
i'll be the first to admit that rand is my favorite character and i greatly admire him,
but you are missing my point, the dragon reborn consists of 56 chapters,50 chapters
out of 56 are dedicated to egwene, perrin and mat's point of view(91 percent),robert
jordan could have given those three enough center stage and room to breathe in
(let's say) 40 chapters and dedicate 10 chapters to rand's point of view, there's a big
difference(for me at least) between seeing rand in action or hearing the same thing
second-hand,so we'll just have to agree to disagree on this subject.
thank you from the bottom of my heart for mentioning the amazing L.
TAI'SHAR.
-
the dragon reborn chapters are mostly told from egwene, perrin and mat point of view,
only a few chapters are told from rand's point of view,in my opinion,it was a mistake,
out of the first six books, the dragon reborn is my least favorite.
a word of advice, rand is a lot tougher than you think, randland is littered with bodies
of people who had an unfortunate tendency to underestimate him, just ask high lord turak.
Does anyone else skip reading about Egwene and the Wonder girls?
