  1. That is really cool... something like receiving validation for the many (countless) hours spent escaping from our real lives.  Because, if someone else is going to that length to study WoT, then I know I'm not crazy despite currently being on my (20th??). re-read

TBH, I would have been surprised if his analysis were different.  RJ was too inteeligent and cared too much to just make a non-sensical language, but also too practical and busy to fully flesh it out.

  2. I agree that the romance with Takeshi and Quell was forced.  To me it seemed they really didn't have any experience or background commonality to base it on... but I am also relying on memories from something I watch well over a month ago and didn't find to be all that memorable.  (As I age, I find it harder and harder to remember even what I did for supper yesterday - so take my statement on the basis for their relationship with a full shaker of salt)

TBH, if it entertains me, I'm good.  It can break the 4th wall (sometimes, even if it breaks the 4th AND the 3rd) I can forgive as long as I'm entertained.

GoT has better acting but I wouldn't say the acting in AC was bad, just mostly mediocre.

I don't think that Altered Carbon had bad acting, just some specific examples (within that series overall) of ... less than stellar performances.  I'm not a licensed critic, and I don't even play one on TV, but I remember hearing myself groan audibly when an actor - or the direction/writing makes a scene unwatchable or groan-worthy.

Having said that, I recall having read many critics hating on Emilia Clarke for her performance(s) within GOT at times.  Personally, I think many times it is poor writing or directing.  The blame should be spread around.  After all, NOONE can know/understand/emote everything.  People have limits, it's part of the human condition.

I should also say that if they do move forward with a second season, I'll probably watch it.

  4. I asked this in another thread but it got buried there so want to have another go at it.

Can the Heroes of the Horn be killed or harmed in any way when they are called by the Horn?

They can while they wait in TAR but a comment by Birgitte suggests that they might be invincible when called by the Horn.

As for Falme, the Horn had called us; we were not there as you were, in the flesh. That is why the Power could not touch us.

    --TSR, CH52

It would be beyond strange if they were in some kind of god mode when called by the Horn, yet that's what Birgitte's comment seems to imply.

I suspect this is not really addressed in the books but perhaps I'm missing something.

We've not seen any way that they can be harmed, but when you consider that they dwell in T'A'R' and can be harmed there (i.e. Moghedian > Birgitte, TAR wolves dying etc.). I think a more appropriate question is whether the shadow understands that the heroes must be found and killed in T'A'R'.

  5. i am relieved to have found this thread :) i am having touble with the terminolgy/abreviations used by all you hardened WoT'ers ;). i can work most of them out and i have a feeling i am being really very blind to not get this one but, what does "PoV" translate to? its driving me mad!!

    Hi Nymphadora;

Don't feel badly about that - sometimes it is frustrating... I work in the telecomm and IT industry and constantly have to slow my thoughts to recall what various acronyms/initializations stand for. I personally had the same difficulty when I first started visiting this forum (my hangup was with 'VoG'). I see that BFG answered your direct question - but for the benefit of anyone needing it, I thought I'd start a list of common ones here - and I apologize in advance for some of the 'obvious' ones. Anyone else is welcome to add to it:

CoL, CotL: Champion of the Light (Rand)

    DR: Dragon Reborn

    DO: Dark One

GLoD: Great Lord of the Dark

VoG: Veins of Gold (Rand's epiphany on Dragonmount)

    DM: Dragonmount

PoV: Point of View (Chapter or section of a chapter that we see from the eyes of a specific character).

EotW: The Eye of the World - Book 1

tGH: The Great Hunt - Book 2

tDR: The Dragon Reborn - Book 3

tSR: The Shadow Rising - Book 4

tFoH: The Fires of Heaven - Book 5

LoC: Lord of Chaos - Book 6

aCoS: A Crown of Swords - Book 7

tPoD: The Path of Daggers - Book 8

    WH: Winter's Heart - Book 9

CoT: Crossroads of Twilight - Book 10

KoD: Knife of Dreams - Book 11

tGS: The Gathering Storm - Book 12

ToM: Towers of Midnight - Book 13

aMoL: A Memory of Light - Book 14

There are many more - but I'm not recalling them now - hopefully someone will add to this...

    Cheers

Even wilder theory: what if Moridin -is- the Dragon Reborn, one that was turned to the Shadow, and as a result, lost not only his soul but his memories as well, all in exchange for immortality? Strangely, there is no mention of a Champion of the Dark in sha'rah...

That theory of Moridin being the Dragon reborn is fascinating, but it would have to be that Rand has two souls (or perhaps 1/2 of a single soul) for it to be true. IIRC Rand remembered many, many past lives while he was on Dragonmount.

I have a sneaking suspicion of something else: Both Rand and Moridin/Ishamael are the Fisher. Afterall, the Fisher is described as being half black and half white. I've also always felt that Moridin is more ripe for returning to the Light than the other Forsaken that are in it for selfish reasons. What if 'The Betrayer of Hope' can be made to see Hope again? It is much easier to do that than to make someone turn away from greed by my way of thinking.
