Valeri stood the the window of her study. It overlooked a rose garden and with the roses in full bloom the heady perfume wafted up to her window. She sipped her tea and smiled, her favourite Saldaean blend always reminded her of her homeland, though it had been decades since she had set foot in Saldaea. A knock at the door interrupted her reverie, "Come" she said and turned to see who was coming to see her.
The door pushed open and revealed a lass of the usual age, with straight black hair. She was just a few inches shorter than Valeri with a serious expression upon her fair-skinned face. "Come in child," Valeri smiled, "You may sit there." She indicated the chair placed before her large age-darkened desk.
"Perhaps you could tell me about yourself and how you came to be at the White Tower? Would you like tea as we talk?"

Valeri smiled warmly at the lass seated before her then reached down to withdraw the Novice Book from its drawer in the the desk. She set the book on the desk and turned the pages to the ribbon marking the most recent entries. Valeri lifted her pen and inked it, "Can you tell me your full name, place of birth and age please child."
As Sagneia spoke Valeri wrote the details into the prescribed columns of the Novice Book in her neat hand. After signing the entry with her own signature Valeri sanded the page then set the book aside.
"Welcome to Tar Valon, Sagneia Kathen. Welcome to the White Tower Novice Segneia."
Valeri rose from her chair and allowed the child a few minutes to process the depth of the welcome she had been given. Sealed to the White Tower - for the foreseeable future at least. Valeri went to the large ornate wardrobe that stood in the corner of her study and from within she withdrew a bundle - after years in the position of Mistress of Novices, Valeri's guesses as to the sizes of new Novices were fairly accurate.
Valeri set the bundle on the desk in front of Sagneia and took her own seat again. The lass looked at the pile of clothing before her appearing to be a little confused.
"These are the clothes of a Novice, child." Valeri said with a smile, "There are dresses, shifts, stockings, slippers, a belt and a pouch here, they are all Novice White. Novices are not permitted to wear anything other than the garments supplied to them."
Valeri fished a a wooden token from a jar on her desk and placed it into Sagneia's hand, "In a few days once you know your way around the Tower, take this token to the seamstresses, they will make you a set of dresses and shifts to fit you properly."
"Now child, have you any more questions for me?"

The lass sat before Valeri's large ornate desk, her hands nervously twitching and face a mask of concentration, trying not to fidget Valeri guessed.
"You are not sure you can learn to channel Falain?" Valeri queried, she would need to believe in her ability in order to be able to fully commit herself to her studies.
"Tell me of the testing that Zarin Sedai performed, did she explain what was happening to you?"

Clean up of Req board complete.Need to begin updating of the Novices reqs re: being able to RP the arrival atTar Valon/White Tower as a solo or with a char other than the MoN.

Valeri tsked. "Sora," she said firmly, "You will never channel against another initiate of the White Tower in anger again. Am i understood?"
Tears rolled down Sora's cheeks as the lass nodded.
"Despite the provocation," Valeri continued, "You must never use the One Power in anger nor as a weapon. I expect you to carry yourself with the dignity and poise that your position within the White Tower deserves."
"Your punishment will be threefold, a spanking, which i am sure you were expecting. Then you will spend two weeks of afternoons tending the Rose Gardens and in addition you will spend two hours per day in the Infirmary under the supervision on Amadine Sedai for the next two months."
Sometime later after Valeri had sent a sobbing Sora, still rubbing her behind, off to her bed, Valeri penned a note to advise Amadine of her decision and sent it off with a Novice to deliver to the Yellow. If anyone could could foster this child's interests whilst keeping her in line it was Amadine.

Valeri sat quietly while the child babbled out her tale, she was nervous, it was to be expected on one's first visit to the White Tower, even more so as a potential Novice.
The child's cheeks reddened as she finished and she looked down into her lap.
"So Sagneia, it appears you can learn to channel. Is this the path you would chose for yourself? Is becoming Aes Sedai important enough to leave your old life behind? If you have any questions or uneasiness, now is the time to air them child"
Valeri smiled warmly at the lass who still sat fidgeting before her and waited for her response.

Valeri glided through the hallways of the White Tower, she had taken lunch in the Dining Hall today, an unusual yet simple pleasure for the Mistress of Novices. As she neared her study she saw a petite lass gather herself and lift her hand to knock at Valeri's study door.
"Good afternoon child," Valeri said as she drew near, "You do be looking for me, yes?"
She smiled at the dark-haired girl. "I am Valeri Kinaea, the Mistress of Novices."
Valeri pushed open the door to her study and held it for the child, "Come in child, you may sit there." Valeri indicated the straight backed chair with a thin cushion in front of her large age-darkened desk.
Channelling a small thread of fire Valeri brewed a fresh pot of tea, she carried the pot and a pair of sky blue Seafolk porcelain teacups to the desk and sat. She poured two cups of tea and set one in front of the slight lass seated across from her, "Now child, perhaps you will tell me about yourself."

Valeri wrote the child's details into the Novice Book, sealing her to the White Tower. She finished the entry with her own neat signature then looked up at the nervous lass seat before her.
"Welcome to Tar Valon, Nyanna al'Dyn. Welcome to the White Tower Novice Nyanna."
Valeri stood and went to the large ornately carved wardrobe that stood in the corner of her study. From within it she withdrew a pair of dresses, several shifts, stocking, slipper, a belt and a pouch. All in pristine Novice White. She set the bundle on the desk in front of Nyanna then fished a wooden token carved with her own name from a jar on her desk and set it a top the pile of white. Taking her seat again Valeri spoke, "These will see you through your first days as a Novice Nyanna. When you have found your way around the Tower, take the token to the seamstresses and they shall make you a set of dresses to fit you properly."
Valeri lifted the small brass bell from her desk and rang it gently. Quiet as it was, it would ring in the ear of the nearest Novice or Accepted, summoning her to Valeri's study. "Have you any questions child, before someone comes to show you to your room?"

Valeri looked up from her letters as the door to her study pushed open and revealed a sweaty, red-face slip of a lass. The child stood there, gasping a little.
Valeri channelled a thread of fire and warmed the teapot before pouring herself and the lass a cup of tea. Valeri pushed the tea cup across the desk and said, "Come in child. My name is Valeri Kinaea. You may call me Valeri Sedai. I am the Mistress of Novices here at the White Tower."
"You may sit," she continued, "And perhaps you could tell me about yourself and what brings you to the White Tower."
