Chapters 7-9 of Knife of Dreams are the topic of discussion by Andrew G and Spencer. These are the first of a series of chapters devoted primarily to Mat, and the guys enjoy their night out with him immensely! The team once again sends thanks to editor Spencer for a job well done.
Virginia welcomes to this episode two of Dragonmount.com‘s preeminent citizens – owner and founder Jason Denzel, and Jennifer Liang, the driving force behind JordanCon and DragonCon. Our regular team of podcasters is still reading through The Gathering Storm and will be back on the air with their thoughts shortly. Recorded on October 29th, the Thursday after the release of TGS, we offer you our first impressions of the long-awaited 12th book in the main WoT series!
This episode is pretty much one huge spoiler for The Gathering Storm, so if you haven’t finished reading it or don’t have your copy yet, you may want to come back to this episode later! THERE WILL BE SPOILERS.
In the interest of getting this out as quickly as possible, I, Virginia, edited it myself as rapidly as I could manage, therefore any errors or technical issues are 100% my fault this time!
Chapters 10-11 of Knife of Dreams are the topic of discussion. These are more in a series of chapters devoted primarily to Mat. The team once again sends thanks to editor Spencer for a job well done.
Chapters 12-17 of Knife of Dreams are the topic of discussion. The team once again sends thanks to editor Spencer for a job well done.
From the depths of a newly uncovered stasis box we came across this “lost” episode, which we affectionately refer to as “The Ta’veren Date Rape Episode”. A bit racier than our usual, definitely PG-13, but not nearly as shocking as it sounds! No ta’veren were harmed in the making of this episode, nor were any of their dates, real or imaginary. Unless you quail at the mention of pillow friends, you’ll be okay….and hopefully, gentle readers, you won’t think it deserved to stay lost! Some have called it one of our funniest yet. You shall be the judge. But please, no balefire!
The title comes from a misunderstanding of something that was said, and it rolled on from there. Regulars Andrew G and Virginia and former host and producer Andrew M feature in this strange little episode. In real time it was recorded around the time of the “Geopolitical Ramifications” episodes.
It isn’t really Explicit, but I checked that just in case anyone is silly enough to play podcasts over their speakers at work – and who does that, really? I mean, unless you WANT to get fired, or your job is as a reviewer at iTunes or something! ? in which case, I want to know where to apply for your job! – Virginia
The 4th Age celebrates it’s Fourth Anniversary! Andrew G, Spencer and Virginia and all of here at Dragonmount would like to thank everyone for listening and participating in the fun and our love for Robert’s Jordan’s Wheel of Time world.
Jason Denzel, founder and owner of dragonmount.com and Bob Klutz of encyclopaedia-wot.org interview Kate Reading and Michael Kramer, the talented voices behind all of the Wheel of Time audiobooks to date. What they have to say is fascinating.
To quote Robert Jordan from AudiofileMagazine.com: “The spoken word is the basis for all storytelling,” he told us from his 1797 home in the historic district of Charleston, South Carolina. “My father and my uncles were storytellers. When we went fishing or hunting, there was always storytelling at night. I grew up with that oral tradition. I’ve always thought that my writing lends itself to being read aloud for that very reason.”
We asked him about the advantages of listening to a book as opposed to reading it. “When reading an actual book,” he answered, “it’s possible to skip over things. You make connections in your head, and you find you’re not registering every word. But when it’s read to you, there’s a difference. You hear every word.”
“It was my suggestion in the first place,” Jordan admitted, “that we have a male and a female actor to do this, a woman to read the female point of view and a man to read the male point of view. And we lucked out in that they both do voices as well. So it is as close as I can come to having an ensemble doing the reading.” In addition, Jordan’s Western novel, CHEYENNE RAIDERS, available as a digital download from Books on Tape, is read by Michael Kramer.
We hope that you enjoy this great interview!

We thank everyone who took the time to call in a voicemail and also to email us here at the podcast with your thoughts and ideas. We value your input and it will help make the podcast better and more interesting for all of us who love the Wheel of Time.
A big THANK YOU to our editor Richard who did this episode.
Andrew G, Virginia and Spencer are your hosts for this episode.
The podcasters respond to listener voicemails, Part 2. This is the second of three voicemail episodes. Because we re-recorded part 1 due to insurmountable technical issues, there are a few continuity problems, for which we apologize.
We truly thank everyone who took the time to call in a voicemail and also to email us here at the podcast with your thoughts and ideas. We value your input and it will help make the podcast better and more interesting for all of us who love the Wheel of Time.
Alert! There is an inadvertent spoiler for Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series in this episode. Our apologies – this one slipped by us!
A big THANK YOU to our editor Chad who worked on this episode.
Andrew G, Virginia and Spencer are your hosts for this episode.
We have also been remiss in not recently thanking the talented author of our 4th Age music, Josh Needleman. His website is at www.joshneedleman.net and he has the music available to hear on his MySpace page at www.myspace.com/joshneedleman. It’s title is Floodgate. Thanks, Josh! Somehow, that information was “lost” until recently. Hey, if the Aes Sedai could forget how to Travel after the Breaking, perhaps there is some excuse for mere podcasters.
The podcasters wrap up their replies to listener voicemails. This is the third of three voicemail episodes.
A big THANK YOU to our new editor Frank, who worked on this episode.

This episode, we’re talking about possibly the most missed character in the series: Moiraine Damodred. As Virginia says: “I want Moiraine back. I want Moiraine back. I want her back. I want Moiraine.” This particular rant was inspired by the release of the new cover art for the US version of Towers of Midnight, featuring the Tower of Ghenjei, and what is hopefully the successful opening of the Tower and rescue of our favorite Blue Aes Sedai. We hope Moiraine is one of your favorite characters, too!
