Will they cast big stars, newcomers or both? In that Rand and his friends are teenagers, I expect a lot of newcomers. This series could go on for 10 years, they can't cast someone in their late 20's for the part if they will be close to 40 at the end of the series. I expect Moraine and Lan will be big movies stars, but Rand, Perrin, Mat and Ewgene may be newcomers.

No-name actors for the main characters... bigger names (to pull viewers in) for the recurring roles.  I could see a lot of bigger actors wanting to chew up the screen with juicy Forsaken roles.

As the story is already finished the producers won't have the same problem as the creators of the GoT tv show. The most important thing now is the casting. I'm very afraid they will make the same mistakes as they did with Warcraft and Legend of the Seeker. I hope the casting directors realise that they are only a couple of very beautiful people in the books like Lanfear, Berelain and Galad. That they won't do a "Saved by the bell"esque teenagers casting. Just hire the same people who did the casting for Game of Thrones and I am at ease.

Completely agreed on the thoughts about getting newcomers to take on the roles of the main characters.  I give the GoT folks a lot of credit for getting such talented actors to take on the roles of the young Starks, Lannisters, etc. and allowing us to see them grow as the characters and as actors.  Using "unknown" talent can really let them make the roles their own as they grow into them.  Ideally, they will be passionate about the genre, if not outright fans of the series.  It would be great to get some existing, well-recognized talent to take on some of the more "intermittent" roles (the Dark Ones, heads of state, etc.) would be great to add credibility and recognition to bring in new fans.

I named my daughter Moiraine.  I have painfully high expectations on this which are also probably not fair. It’s not so much about casting her appearance but her presence. The same for Lan. Please casting directors don’t play me on this.  

Would love to see Keanu Reeves as Lan.

Keanu Reeves doesn't have the presence necessary to play Lan, IMO. A look from Lan will make you freeze in place and forget what you were about to say. Whoever plays him will need to be able to project that kind of presence. Same thing with Moiraine.

Well, Keanu has that presence in the John Wick series IMO. Not just a look but the presence as a whole. Look at Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. Not the physical presence but the "attitude". Liam Neeson would be pretty good, but might be to old at this stage.

Any thoughts on these, Kellen Lutz and Jason Rathbone ? Taylor Lautner ? David Henry as Mat ? I'll throw these out there....Let the dissention begin ! LOL !

They will be looking for lesser know, and thus more affordable actors for the main, recurring roles.  Big name actors to ancor the cast will likely be reserved for roles which do not appear much in the series.....Tam, Elyas, Morgase.....

I could see them splurging to get someone like Nicole Kidman as Morgase.  

Am probably really late to this, because I;ve been doing my dissertation and took an internet break! I'm just finished studying theatre, and have done a fair bit of stage acting, sent my CV to the email above, but I LOVE this series, my Dad got me onto them as a teenager, I just bought the four books we were missing from the series for him for Father's Day, gonna keep my fingers crossed they do some open-call casting!!

I have been following the books for over 20 years, since the first few chapters of Eye of the World was passed out in book stores as free samples. I really worry that casting and writing will be done in a less than mature way. It appears that not only physical appearances of characters as described in the books, but also story lines will be prone to adjustments and changes by the writers and direction to embrace a more modern politically correct aspect. I've seen a lot of moves / tv shows made from books and know that it is not uncommon for things to change from the printed page to the screen. I just hope they keep it to a minimum.

I have always seen Thom Merrilin in my mind as Tim Thomerson. 

I see WOT as having the potential to equal or maybe even surpass other fantasy like Harry Potter, or the Hobbit movies. 

Anyway, I hope it is great.
