Have you had access to scripts that we don't? So far I have seen little to nothing about what they are doing with the actual story so how can you say that they are competing with GoT. Also in the books there is plenty of scenes with Rand and Min, Elayne, and Aviendha also Nynaeve and Lan having sex. These books don't go into specifics like GoT but it is there. Not even mentioning all the scenes with Aes Sedai and their rituals where they are "Clad in the Light" meaning naked. Also the many torture scenes where people are stripped naked. If you have problems with people being naked then maybe this series isn't for you because there is plenty of it in the series

Well, the Two rivers came from menetharin (sorry for the spelling) which by many accounts was a modern city, probably a lot like Manhattan or LA.  So maybe the diversity is expected?  Or by now they would all appear to be mixed race which I can buy any of these actors as being.  Can that be it?

I just hope for an amazing show and would be completely satisfied if i enjoyed it as much as GOT. I have been a long standing fan of the WOT series and i would be crushed if this is a shannara like series. So far i am saddened by the casting choices with the exception of moraine but even with her the actress should be shorter. Rand should be closer to 6'4 and perrin should be really thick with heavy corded muscle from hours as a black smith shop. With all they could have done with WOT i am getting another teen drama vibe. I hope i am wrong! Also in closing if you have truly read these books like i have then you would know that these Characters are described in detail in the books and i don't believe the casting director has read a single page.

Manetheren fell two thousand years ago. For reference, that's like when Jesus was born. The Two Rivers has been isolated for two thousand years.

The worst thing is, Mat looks like he could be Rand's brother. Rand's distinctive look is supposed to be an important plot point.

Characters "look" fine to me....like someone else said, its more about how well they can act than looks......

I see your point and agree to shannara being horrible,  and if they make this a teen drama it will suck horribly.  If that is the reason you are worried about the characters I understand.  But If its only because they aren't an exact match in detail, I'm less inclined to be worried. 

And also on a side note GOT was awesome until season 7.....which was ok then 8 really bombed in my opinion  so I am worried about the show meeting my expectations at all.

Got season 8 sucked because Martin hasn't finished the series yet, so the producers were making stuff up.

I was already disappointed by most of the casting, and now they missed the mark with Daniel Henney as Lan!  Lan is supposed to be ruggedly handsome, like Chris Hemsworth, Gerard Butler, Jason Momoa, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, or Karl Urban, not a pretty boy!  It looks like they are trying to turn this into a fantasy version of 90210!  Even though WOT is my favorite story of all time and I have hoped for years that it would make it to the screen, I am getting less and less interested in the production of it.  I would prefer to keep the WOT world and characters that Jordan painted for me.  If the producers of GOT could stay pretty true to the story and characters, why can't the producers of WOT do it?  They need to keep Rosamund Pike and Barney Harris, and even Josha Stradowsky, then start over with the rest!

I think Mat is the problem, if you can even call it a problem. In the first book, it's mentioned that Rand is paler than the usual Two Rivers folk. He's somewhat tanned from being outside all the time, but someone pulls his sleeve up to show his untanned skin colour which is taken as a sign that he's different as he should be darker skinned (i.e. The natives of the area are naturally darker skinned even without a tan). On that note, the darker skinned actors are no darker than a white person could get from being very tanned, so it seems in the photos I've seen anyway. Problem is, Mat is as pale as Rand here.

As for the diversity, some people are really overstating how isolated the village is. Not only has it had thousands of years to have travellers and traders slowly but surely move into town, it's also said that the blood of Manetheren has weakened and strengthened over time as different people bred with different people. If the only people in the Two Rivers were all the direct descendants of Manetheren, there'd be no waxing and waning of the old blood at all. 

I agree about the casting on the two rivers people, they do not look like I think they should.  I would like to see them in their costumes, hair, etc. for the parts.     I think it will be hard to make all WoT fans happy.  Peter Jackson did a great job on Lord of the Rings but making a screen play out of an epic is very hard. Some of my favorites stories have been terrible on screen and a few have been good.  Game of Thrones was better on screen then the books I thought.     We can only hope and wait and wait and wait,    Wheel of Time is my all time favorite, please don't mess it up!

Poor casting period. The world is already diverse the two rivers folks were well discribed. The town is cut off and not diverse. The only one that stands out is Rand as he is the only one of mixed race. Height wise not much of big deal. Perrin should be 20-50 lbs heavier as he grew up larger and stronger than others. Rand was adopted not blood of Tam. Rand is Aiel and Andor nobility. The cast can be shuffled to more fitting roles as the world in the first few books are diverse. Part of the greatness of the first book is realizing the world is a large diverse place. With Rand having to come to grips he dose not look like his father and was adopted. Lan was a great choice as i can see his kingdom fitting with the armor. Moraine will be fine even though later on they will have to make her look younger.

I’m more concerned about any grand changes to the story or of it becoming a teen drama.  The look of the actors may not match what I envisioned or drawings from the books but...who is to say if they won’t be dying someone’s hair blond or red or black or having them gain 20 pounds of muscle or get a tan or whatever.   

Probably won't watch the series as nothing I've seen so far even remotely follows Jordan's books.  Who decides this stuff?  Instead of altering the story to the point of not recognizing the story or characters, how about following the story the way the author wrote it.  He's the one that made this "TV show" possible.  I hear the earth over Jordan's grave shaking...
