New Spring

About to re-read the Eye of the World and completely start over, hopefully getting further in the series than I ever have. However, would it be wise to start off with New Spring first?

I thought New Spring was cool just as some extra background on Moraine and Lan. But I don't think there was much,if anything, to say about what happens later.

New spring does mention Elyas in 1 line as either moiraine or Siuan are walking by. Its funny. BUt ya, its pretty much jsut background info on moiraine and lan to make you understand them more.

can't hurt. it can either give you details on what is alluded to later or remind you of what you've already read. and it can give you a different perspective on the books.

I dunno, for me new spring seemed to have a whole different tone than all the other books, more down to earth, less "High fantasy" it seemed

I started reading WOT by begining with New Spring, so for me it was a great prologue to the series and informative when I had absolutely no idea what an Aes Sedai was. When I got to The Eye of the World it was kinda cool to see how both Moiraine and Lan had changed, and I already knew a bit about them. As well, finding out that Siuan becomes the Amyrlin was also a shock. So I would definitely recommend reading New Spring since it's not too long and worth the extra information.

I started WoT with New Spring as well but in retrospect, I wish I hadn't. I could tell as I was reading The Eye Of the World that I was supposed to feel unsure about Moraine and Lan. New Spring reveals Moraines intentions and her being a good person.

Yes, this was the best part for me about reading New Spring early. Siuan was my favorite of the two women when I read New Spring. I had begun to think that maybe Siuan was really just a minor character or something. This was a big, awesome surprise from RJ.

 

Don't get me wrong, I still like New Spring. Without it I would have never gotten into the WoT. I just wish I had found The Eye of the World first.
