@Darthe - At p45, I'm not seeing RTE as scummy as you are.  Rather I'm seeing the "pissing contest" (that Nyn referred to) and RTE being dragged into that.  Not sure why he is letting himself get dragged into it as it seems emotionally aggravating for everyone, but there you go.

It's his phrasing that bothers me here; "dammit! my really important quotes that were just about things I found funny are gone!" But I'm also not a fan of the "I've seen so far today" phrasing, the game only had ~100 posts at that point, 90% of that being fluffy introduction spazzy stuff. So it reads as fake to me.

He's already trying to 'corner' RTE, someone I firmly believe is town, over literally one post, his introduction post. He's snarky right off the bat: "great contribution, *eyeroll*, but I'll humor it." Doesn't read as genuine either.

He's trying to hammer down the point that RTE is being scummy... except he's not. Dap immediately got defensive against RTE, but all RTE was doing is highlighting a situation that he finds humorous or coincidental.

Continuing the trend of letting everyone know his availability, when honestly speaking, nobody cares. This is something scum is much more likely to be worried about, and they check in and check out far more often than townies do.

That last sentence feels like a joke to me, but it is still structured in a way leaning towards certainty (people don't bet on things they think they might lose)

It took me a few reads to wrap my head around what he was even getting at here, but once again, he's not letting RTE attempt to clear himself at all, much like Darthe has been doing to me lately.

Does the above seem like a natural, organic development from Dap's perspective? Because RTE said "villager checking in!", he hasn't allowed RTE even an inch of wiggle room despite RTE's responses being jovial and non-self-conscious. Dap sounds far more conspicuous and worried about public perception than RTE does.

It's part of why I don't understand the public ire for RTE in this thread. His tone is fine, his statements are punchy and even humorous. He isn't taking himself too seriously, and he just sounds like a townie. It's abstract, but it's true.

What I don't like about this post:

 

RTE added some fuel to the hating-RTE fire by claiming VT here, but it's a move that is completely null and I don't understand why people on DM get so suspicious about it. It has negative utility for scum to claim VT early because it locks them into a non-PR claim later, so they can't CC a cop or doc for example, and townies with PRs can claim it to fade a night kill (Yates did this as a vig a few games ago). I wish RTE hadn't done it, but I don't think Dap's response to it is appropriate.

I don't think I've ever played with Corey before
But I appreciate the case on him and respect the three people voting him (all three don't tend to play very tight games)
However I really dislike RTes reveal and don't think his train will continue given the new momentum on Corey

What I don't like about this post:

1) Dap has already set up a bunch of posts that would make it easy for him to vote for RTE, but he feels he has to justify it in an insincere manner.

2) Look at his commentary on Cory: he starts with "eh... I don't know much about Cory" but also encourages the train on him. He's leaving himself room to hop on without leaving himself any accountability for the lynch if it happens. In short, he's egging on town. Note that he doesn't mention me at all.

3) This line is oozing with guilt-laden insecurity; if he was a townie here, all he has to do is vote RTE, given that the only thing he's talked about to this point is RTE. But he still feels the need to provide over-justification for his vote, which shows the insecure scum mindset I'm talking about.

4) Continuing the theme of the insecure scum mindset, he, for the FOURTH time in just a couple hours, keeps us abreast of his personal schedule. He also said he'd be a free man 2 days ago, but hasn't shown since I started putting pressure on him. I don't think this is a coincidence.

Actually you say that I only vote him at the end of your wot, I feel like I'm missing the connection? Why do I need to defend him calling one of the people on his train mafia when I'm not on his train nor am I mafia?

Anyway more interestingly is how you go for Darthe in this post. You call his list crap, but it seems largely due to you disagreeing on who he finds scummy. It's a rather deep line in the sand for a relatively new game IMO
You also go pretty far in your defence of RTE and it's purely based on meta in summary (dudes a walking magnet for votes I believe was the phrase)

Biggest stand out issue I have with this post is this however

Also here on this page though was Tsuki coming in and making jokes which is odd. From what ive seen from Tsuki is hes generally much more into the game and pretty good at casing. Want more.

After a period of absence, his first priority is to apologize for inactivity and explain his whereabouts. It's become an obsession of his.

 

Then he goes into straight commentary mode, which is more often a scum tactic because it presents the appearance of work without having to actually provide detailed reads or hard stances.

 

No discussion of Cory, period; one of two players he's even talked about in this game. Cory's banned, so he can't bother to talk about what that might mean for me, the person who pushed him to the brink of madness?

Then he goes on the defensive toward Lenlo, and who knows, this may actually be why Lenlo was silenced if it's a scum ability. I can barely understand Dap's defense here, but it looks like whyme=fryme.

But more importantly, he's chainsaw defending Darthe from Lenlo and using it to FOS RTE again. What is this weird unspoken rapport that Darthe and Dap have where they have to hard defend each other? (Remember: Darthe later claims Dap is "clear town" over and over and over.)

I really have no idea what Dap was thinking when he wrote "I'm not sloppy enough to act against my meta," but I don't think I need to point out who thinks that way. (Hint: it's not town.)

Dap also chainsaw defends Tsuki against Lenlo; I don't  understand that connection at all, but he's accusing Lenlo of doing the same thing he's been doing himself -- leaving himself room to hop onto wagons (Cory's).

But the worst part of this is perhaps how he adds "damn Lenlo is silenced" at the end, as if this is meant to be a stream of consciousness post, but it's clearly fabricated and reads as choppy and disjointed.

Then starts rambling in commentary mode again. This is Dap's largest and most reads-inclusive post in the game to date, and it's half incoherent gibberish. He ends the post with yet another self conscious statement: "hope this works!"

The entire work is penned with insecurity and anxiety, there's little conviction to be had here, and the little bits about cory being banned and lenlo being silenced don't sound sincere at all, it was an attempt to make people believe he was just posting as he read, but it's simply not believable.

Perhaps most importantly, I don't understand his need to strongly associate with Darthe, and vice-versa. I'd say "perhaps Masons" if it wasn't for the fact that Wombat started out the game by saying "oh weird, Darthe and Dap seem like town and Cory seems like scum." Followed by both Darthe and Wombat attacking me relentlessly after I decided Dap is scum.

That's a lot of coincidences, don't you think?

I try to cultivate a common meta as town and mafia (it improves my mafia game, and game overall)

Petty but a thing I do.

I like to try keep myself in check so I can be a better player overall

 

It helps hide me regardless of alignment or PR, so far it seems to work

 

 

This is the only other post Dap has made, SIXTY HOURS AGO, where he acknowledges that he's concerned with balancing his range.

 

That concludes my case.

 

Bad posts, conspicuous and guilt-laden, desperately concerned with his public appearance, making promises to post which never came true, pushing RTE from his VERY FIRST POST and never budging from that position, yet somehow hard defending Darthe and Tsuki from Lenlo and leaving himself room to vote for Cory if necessary.

They are linked by some invisible gossamer thread of scumminess.

After that, you'll have to piece together what's going on. Despite really liking Vos's tone, I don't really understand why he turned on me, and he's also got a link with those guys, so keep an eye on Vos.

I read Tsuki as town but he may be worth a second look just to be safe.

Please don't lynch RTE, if you absolutely must you can investigate him, but I'm quite sure he's not flipping scum so it's a huge waste of a day phase.

Push the three people on my list above and interesting things will happen, I guarantee iit!

However just as much info, in fact more, would be gained from lynching any of the others based on the fact they have content alone.

Now I know you don't like me discussing my schedule (I do so cos it's weird and I think it's polite to update people) but I work on the weekend for long hours. I may be on holiday but that's only from uni.

Regardless your case on me is based largely on your dislike for the way in which I post.

You say it's cos I post "stream of conscience" post that read as faked. Well I'm just typing as I go, and that's not something I can prove or disprove. If it reads as fake to you, hard luck I guess.

My push on RTE. It's cos I felt his I'm a villager too post trying to get onto a bandwagon that was forming, but if seemed a bit delayed to me, like someone realising that they could try sneak in their "towniness" unnoticed.

Other than that I have even been here, this thread has tripled in size over the last two days and I've not had a chance to catch up really. So far I haven't read a good chuck of the middle pages. I came back after work and saw the deadline was near so skipped ahead.

It seems really strange to me that you are encouraging people to move to yourself or me and off rte

Firstly because RTE has more votes and makes more sense for a consolidation (especially such an oddly timed deadline) as DM has never had the best track record of deadlines.

Secondly you are offering yourself over RTE;

Now you say you think RTE is town, however you can't know his alignment for sure so this seems a but of a gamble on your part and unlikely town thing to do if you were to be the lynch (which is a possibility you offered and more likely based on votes alone)

I think I saw you claim paranoid gun owner somewhere on the last few pages I read? Even if you don't trust your role you are a very vocal player and it appears off to me that you'd offer yourself to save someone else who you only have your reading of the thread to go on.

Great little thing about the paranoid gun owner role though, if you pull off the claim (true or not, but I'm starting to lean not where I wasn't when I last posted) no one will visit you at night.

Ah, you know what would suck and make sense? If Dap actually was town and that's why Darthe was defending him so hard. Masons or scum? Probably scum. Possible Darthe and Wombat are scum-scum and were defending Dap to set him up. That would explain the "clear town" read Darthe was pushing, there's not a lot to lose by hard defending a townie that will likely get lynched anyway as it just makes them look good for fighting so hard... or so they think. In reality it looks bizarre regardless of Dap's alignment. The "over-reaching defense" is something that's useful to find scum... though you could say I've done the same thing with RTE. Hah.
