I doubt Ishamael would have brought up about to LTT how he beat him at Paaran Disen if it wasn't a personal duel between them. Ishamael never led an army, just the DO's overall force. It was always personal for Ishamael between him and LTT. I doubt he would have considered one of his general's defeats against LTT as a personal failure. And we know that LTT fought various duels against Sammael, Demandred, and Aginor as well once, so it's entirely possible it would have happened between him and Ishamael.

 

But just because Ishamael was defeated does not mean he was captured or killed. Nyneave defeated Moghedien but she survived. Mesaana captured Egwene but she broke free. In the middle of a chaotic battle on which we have virtually no information, there are plenty of ways Ishamael could have survived.

I was not wondering how Ishamael escaped, but how the Shadow lost that force. It is quite an interesting question. At least for me :)

Well we don't know how many fought for each side. 

 

It could have been a paltry force against the best of the Light. 

 

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but we know next to nothing about that battle bar Lews Therin bested Ishamael. 

 

We don't know the terrain, the quality of troops, the resources, tactical importance of the battle. 

 

So asking how the Light won that battle is like asking how come x + y = z We simply don't have the information,

Good job Barid!! There is one question though that I could never work out.........how did Lews Therin wipe out Ishamael's army at Paaran Disen??? Ishamael was the only one to escape. How could this have happened without Callandor??

I've always envisioned it as sort of a Rand at Maradon moment.
