The X-wing fighter made its way through space escaping from Imperial ships. Unfortunately, the hyperdrive wasn't up to the task and it was found dead in space by the ship Wild Karrde. The pilot, Luke Skywalker, had a bounty on him by the Empire. But the astromech droid he had on board was clearly malfunctioning, apparently from Imperial fire. Karrde's crew were able to round up a translator droid to figure out what all the beeping noises meant. The translation made no sense, though.

"My name is Astromech Artoo Dee Too.
Maintaince droid to Queen Amidala of Naboo, Companion of Jedi Master Obi Wan Kenobi and loyal servant to the New Republic, under Chief of State Mon Mothma. Friend to the fallen Jedi Anakin Skywalker, witness to the monster he became. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next."

And then Artoo died.
