[Basic] Die Hard for Mafia Game Thread

I never managed to create a really useful maffia sheet for any of my games yet (well, apart from the ALT game obviously). I usually get to some point, but never really manage to add my notes in any organized form. Reading the whole game again is a very good experience by the way. I know it might sound like a lot of work for little gain at first, but trust me when I say that it isn't.

Well, I read Mish as town only once, when she was Pandora (she was a survivor). I even tried to keep her alive.

 

Heck, I had a genuine scum read on her in a JN game where I was maffia and she wasn't on my team. LOL.

Kaylee, I haven't go around to answer some of your questions during the last days. Some because I was busy, some because it didn't seem to be a good idea at the time, some because I judged it would just derail the discussion. So here goes, if you were genuienely interested.

At this point, 3 players were voting Lenlo, Luci wasn't among those. As the alternative train was Luci (and thus Luci would have to vote Len eventually), the only way that could have worked was two of you switching to her.

You have hinted that you had a theory about me not being the doc afterall. I reflected on it pre-emptively. It didn't stop you from making the case anyway on the next day.

Your attack on me (on the day we lynched Len) finalized my town read on you btw. I called you town cause I thought you town and even tried to protect you.

 

That leaves Csarmi. He's unCC'd Doc I know. But I got to thinking. It's a crazy idea and not as likely but since I'm putting all my thoughts down here it goes...

We know we had a cop and vig due to corner reports. Scum would have to have some way of countering that. GF makes sense as it's common in basic games. Would adding a doc to the mix over power the townies? I know the vig was 1-shot but still you have to account for everything to happen at once as a mod. The more I thought about it I began to wonder if there is a doc this game. If for some reason there isn't Csarmi could be scum in that case and of course he'd be unCC'd. Now after I post this I'll grab the two final vote counts to see how they look for everyone.

I believe that cop + vig + 7xVanilla vs 3 goons would be somewhat underpowered for town. Anyway, I believe that having a doc role for granted (or any role for granted, for that matter) is a bad thing. It's a critique on the basic games around here on general, not Hally's game in particular. Also - yes, I had the JN game to help me speculate about the setup. I linked it simply so that everyone is on the same page there. I knew it must be a simple modification of the setup.

This post just seems odd. You ask for the view, which I understand, and yet also state that people rely too much on the cop? Huh?

 

Note the timing. I waited 2 days to ask for Peace about his disappearance. I happen to agree with Peace on this point very strongly. People have a habit of getting lazy when a cop shows up. I believe that it's much better for the Cop to hold his information and wait for their cue to enter the discussion. They are more informed than us, this puts them in charge in a way.

 

I know you're unCC'd Doc but I wanted to point some things out...

 

I'm gonna be voting Luci tomorrow. That hammer stinks.

 

Also, I disagreed about the Dap lynch then and I disagree about it now. Since when is it a good idea to lynch a town view when we have 7 town / 1 scum left most likely?

Blue: This is interesting as you seemed so sure that I was the GF a few pages back. (I pulled that posts too).

 

If there is a GF, they can be anyone but Peace/Me, actually, and we're never going to get any new info on that as we know it's the last one standing.

Thanks Csarmi. I just had a crazy thought that you might be mafia. I was basically WIFOM myself on everyone at that point. It was driving me crazy that I couldn't seem to get a strong read on anyone really.

I don't think it was crazy. But as I pointed out, in that case why would I change meta and put myself out there instead of walking home with the game.

To throw off suspicion of course. As you said it's always taken for granted in a basic game that there is a doc and cop. So if one claimed and wasn't counter-claimed they could skate all the way until end game without suspicion.

you seemed less focused or driven as mafia. You didnt seem to know how to scum hunt when you knew the scum.

It was more like you reacted rather than proactively got things goibg

What Dap just said and the fact that you always wanted to hear what others thought (even though some had already done that) made me think you were just trying to appear like your helping. The comment about not being good at scum hunting stood out too. 

 

It felt after awhile like you were just playing safe. You were vocal and voting sure, but you were also asking more for others thoughts before placing your own and something just felt off. I was obviously wrong, and that happens.

I believe Dap is talking about my other game he looked up (where I was maffia).

 

In this game, I deliberately changed playstyle midgame, once I became confirmed town by the doc claim.

For two reasons:

• My situation in the game changed. Different situation calls for different play. For instance, I could be trusted from then on, so I could afford to prod a different way, hold back opinions, etc. I could be suseful in other way, you see.
• My situation in RL changed. I've become much more busy and other things took preference. I have informed you of this right when it changed.

Now what I meant to say was that if I was scum and managed to get away with that doc claim, I wouldn't have risked breaking my meta and adjusting my playstyle to the situation, at least much less. In that situation, I should have just coasted safely.
