got my issue of game informer last night and literally drooled over the front cover.

WB Game Montreal is still tight lipped abotu this prequel, but "they've been handed the keys to the hot rod" franchise of gamming company 'Rocksteady'.  They've got alot of brilliant minds workgin on this project, ncluding some well know developers from UbiSoft and EA; they're also using Rocksteady's game modle used to develope Arkham City.

they game takes place about 20 years prior to Arkhma Asylum and Arkham City, and will have the open world of Arkham City with the map being twice as big (encompasing Old Gotham and New Gotham), the team also incorperates a "fast travel" system via the Batwing.  they are keeping with the same combat system, but tweaking it a bit, this is a time when Batman is just comming into his own, he makes some mistakes and doens't necissarly know when to hold back.  he's not tripping over his own cape, but he's not the mature crime fighter we know from the previous 2 installments.  the team also wants to explore the relationships between Batman and our well know franchise villians to show how they formed off one another and got themt o be the people they are in the future games.

right now, theiry being very tight lipped on what villians are scheduled to make apperances, so far we have conformations that the main antagonist is "Black Mask"

and the plot is that BM has offered a reward for Batmans head, which attracts many villians across the DC Universe.

two other Villians are confirmed for the game right now

this release is not scheduled to be released on the new gen consoles right now, but liek Assassins Creed 3, there is a companion game called Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate set to be released on both the Vita and 3DS
