Science writer Gary Taubes has done much research and analysis on this subject. If you're interested, here's an op-ed piece by him:

http://www.nytimes.c...aubes.html?_r=0

He starts out discussing the results of [then] recent drug trials for a new product designed to replace statins, and progresses to the history of the cholesterol hypothesis.

In the late 1960s, biochemists created a simple technique for measuring, more specifically, the cholesterol inside the different kinds of lipoproteins — high-density, low-density and very low-density. The National Institutes of Health financed a handful of studies to determine whether these “cholesterol fractions” could predict the risk of cardiovascular disease. In 1977, the researchers reported their results: total cholesterol turned out to be surprisingly useless as a predictor. Researchers involved with the Framingham Heart Study found that in men and women 50 and older, “total cholesterol per se is not a risk factor for coronary heart disease at all.”

The cholesterol in low-density lipoproteins was deemed a “marginal risk factor” for heart disease. Cholesterol in high-density lipoproteins was easily the best determinant of risk, but with the correlation reversed: the higher the amount, the lower the risk of heart disease.

I highly recommend his book, "Good Calories, Bad Calories" for an in depth scrutiny of this subject.

Usually in welcome threads there's a ton of pix featuring brownies. I just threw in a little egg salad for humor. But if egg salad does not appeal, how about a nice Salade Niçoise?

You can share. It's the sweet version, but I do actually have some of the horrible buttery salty variety in the cupboard if you would prefer. It was purchased in error.

If you will allow me:

Recent studies have discovered that there is far less conclusive evidence that there is a correlation between dietary cholesterol and CHD. The strength of the link between cholesterol intake and CHD is much weaker now than was once thought to be, but isn't completely dismissed.

And where is substantial acoholism in your shoddy research hmmmmmmm rey?

I am. Quite insane, actually. I just accept it, embrace it and use it to my advantage. Anyway, yeah, I was reading something about that on the site, I would like to learn how. Well, how do the oats work, anyway? I'm sure you don't actually get a material one, though, I might actually buy one, so is it a picture, or a figurative one?

well, you'll fit in. and Hai!
