Full name: Aphynea Shayen

Age: 44

Clan: Dragonmount

Role: Wise One (Will Retro Apprenticeship)

Physical appearance: Aphynea is short for Aiel, but still has the sun dark skin common to her people along with bright red hair and blue eyes. She has a small button nose and her eyes are slightly tilted. She wears the traditional algode blouse and brown linen skirt. She prefers gray shawls to brown to tie up her hair.

Physical weakness: Aphynea never had a mind to become a warrior, and therefore had none of their physical conditioning. She's not very strong and may be slow to complete tasks.

Physical strength: Despite her lack of strength, she does have a good amount of endurance, never giving up when others would.

Personality: Aphynea is endlessly curious. She loves to learn about anything she can and usually has a lot of questions. She uses this new-found knowledge in ways that one normally wouldn't think of, using facts that facts that she's learned to make decisions others would see as unrelated. She is a keen observer and very stubborn in her own beliefs.

Personality weakness: Because of her introversion, she sometimes can't see others' point-of-view right away.

Personality strength: She is very intelligent and when she is right, she knows it.

Special: Aphynea loves to sing, and sings quite well, even when she knows others are watching.

History: Aphynea was born to a Seia Doon and his seamstress wife. She was their first child, and three years after she was born, her father married her mother's first-sister. Over the years, she had two first-brothers, one second-brother, and three second-sisters. Her mother died while giving birth to her younger first-brother, when Aphynea was ten. She helped raising her first-brothers and grew a tight bond with her sister-mother. When she reached sixteen, she became apprentice seamstress to her sister-mother.

She watched her various siblings grow up as she grew in her skills. Her first-brothers went on to become Seia Doon like their father, and her second-brother became a blacksmith. Her three second-sisters all wed the spear together, leaving her finish her apprenticeship with her second-mother and start thinking of a husband for herself. Aphynea wasn't very good at reading others' feelings at this point, and she delayed in finding a husband despite the Wise Ones' and her sister-mother's urgings. She resigned herself to her own life, though, and decided that if she found a suitable husband, it would happen in its own time.

One day, when she was twenty-two, she relaxed her mind while drinking a simple glass of blessedly cool water. After she finished the cup, she set it aside and let her mind wander. She thought of her family, where her siblings were and how their lives were going. She thought of her father who was rising quickly through the ranks of the Seia Doon. Then she thought of her own life. She was happy with her work as a seamstress, but she felt like she was missing something. Almost as if these thoughts had summoned her, a Wise One came into her tent and informed her she could learn to channel. Seeing this as the opportunity she needed, Aphynea accepted an apprenticeship to become a Wise One.

Isn't it rather unusual for someone to manifest the spark that late? (Which I presume is what happened here.) Normally it manifests in the teens for women (between ages 14-19 seems the most common). Besides, if she was a Sparker, the Wise Ones would surely have started teaching her much earlier, to prevent accidents.

Quote from Myst:

channelers that are not sparkers don't hurt themselves using the One Power. That only happens to sparklers and that happens between the ages of 14 and 16 usually. In this case, we're not talking about a sparkler but about someone with the ability to learn. And thus it is possible that she is found later in life.

She hasn't actually channeled yet, so it would be the same as the people who make through life with the ability and don't actually channel. Like the Salidar Novices who don't get found till they are much older, but haven't ever been hurt by it or ever even touched it for that matter.

That makes sense, but in the bio it says "she could channel". Coupled with the fact that the Wise One just randomly appears with no justification after the following "she relaxed her mind while drinking a simple glass of blessedly cool water. After she finished the cup, she set it aside and let her mind wander.", it seems to suggest that someone felt something somewhere.

Anyhoo, if you're willing to put the words "LEARN TO" in there by "she could channel", ie "she could learn to channel", I'll CC it :)
