What is the deal with Sleete

I'm not sure if this has been talked about, i couldnt find it but what is the deal with Sleete.

He seems to get alot of air time for just a warder.

For awhile i was thinking that he was a Darkfriend that would play some devious role, i.e. trying to will Gawyn but since his Aes Sedai has retaken the oaths and sworn that she is not a Darkfriend i guess that probably isnt he case.

So does anyone know why he gets as much time as he does?

I am thinking that Gawyn needed a mentor/friend character to talk to and come to a decision, and sleete just happens to be it.

I don't think he is anything more than that. Of course, after the unification, it would be natural for Gawyn to remain friends with him, and consult him with his issues.

However, Gawyn did pocket the Bloodknife ter'angreal, so who knows, he could possibly be important in aMoL. I do not think he has any importance before tGS though, I don't recall anything mysterious about his past or anything like that.

I certainly think what you are saying is probably the case.

It just seems odd to me that he gets as much time as he does, he is the second most talked about Warder after Lan. ( I guess Gareth Bryne would be above him also).

Just because Gawyn needed a friend is a bit weak for me but it probably is the case.

I read it as a sort of "How to Warder". From the first chapter of EoTW the warders are built up as semi-mythical throat-punching hard-charging face-cleaving unstopable engines of bad-guy destruction. With very few exceptions we have not seen that. Alanna's other warder didnt even get any face time because he was sniped while playing in a field of flowers in the Two Rivers. Not exactly a demise that will be remembered in song and story. Hammar and the other warder trainer in the tower were both killed on the same day by the same guy--one of their students, and the second-best one at that. Tomas had some good parts, but, you know, Darkfriend. For the most part the warders have not put in a good showing for a group of profesional epic-making hardcore badass bodyguards. The quick, almost offhand telling of Sleete's immediate history is given to the reader as, "well, this is just what a warder does on his off time. Now, back to the story." I think this was designed to prop up the warders as a whole as a lot more than what they have been shown to be.

Yeah, I know what you mean. He could possibly be important later on, I was just saying, in terms of foreshadowing and previous books, we don't really have any indication or hint that he may be important. So it is anyones guess as to what he will do later, but for the moment, I would say he is just a fill in character.
