I've seen the trailer a few times and it didnt remind me of lotr at all, if anything it reminded me of dragonheart. but that might just be me and my strange perceptions... all I can say is its an awesome time to be a comic book/fantasy geek, another awesome looking movie coming out is 300, it could be considered in the broader description of fantasy

Myst I know that the studio gave Jackson a difficult time with the financing, but the man had faith in the following LoTR had as well as with those of us who are into scifi/fantasy. As you said, it was a matter of finding the right people to back him. But you also proved my point...once the studio in New Zeland heard of Jacksons idea, they pushed for him to keep it the trilogy it was written to be.

Before LotR (talking movie here, not books) Fantasy/SciFi has a very small nitch market, but a powerful one. With the release of the movie, Hollywood discovered how powerful of a market it really had and learned of a new cash cow. It being released around the same time as the HP movies only helped the cause.

Now that they know how powerful the market is, and that its was broadend because of how much hype the movie got, I think Hollywood will be more willing to invest in Fantasy/SciFi movies. Just look at all the ones that have been released in the mean time that fall in that category. Not to mention, with all the turmoil in the world right now, people are wanting an excape from reality and to be reminded that it is possible for the good guys to win and live happily ever after. What better genre to do that than a Fantasy/SciFi movie?

Having read both books, I think Eragon is different enough that it should be judged on its merits. All fantasy is basically rehashing older material, its the nature of the genre. Its not the same storyline ad nauseum like Terry Brooks, long winded for the sake of sales like Jordan, not as in depth and confusing as LOTR can be! Take in that it was also written by a teenager, and you can forgive the idiosyncracies that may be found.

The movie also has a strong, critically acclaimed cast, so hopefully it will do both the story, and genre, justice.

I have not read the books but I did see the previews for Eragon last night when I saw "Happy Feet", which was a realllly cute movie :D Anyways the quality for Eragon looked really good! I think that I'm going to read the book now because the preview got me interested.

Also I saw the previews for HP 4, which comes out July 13 *grins* Can't wait to see it also.

I JUST saw the trailer for Eragon about an hour ago on TV. I have not read the book, but I have to say the movie looked decent, for fans of fantasy. I may have to read the books first though, I'm like that. *shrugs*
