Hi. I'm new to Dragonmount, but I have been reading the WoT series for almost 3 years now. I have finished the series, except for the upcoming book obviously, and I thought I would look around here and just join in the community. I am actually going through the books a second time. This has lead me to a ton of questions/theories for the series as a whole and I can't wait to share and/or find people that have the same questions and theories. I guess I will start by sharing the story of how I started reading the series.

I was given Eye of the World as a present when I was a teenager. I failed to adhere to the age-old adage, though. I literally judged a book by its cover. I wasn't a fan of fantasy novels and the cover didn't inspire me to read it. So I threw it into a box with other books that I didn't find interesting. Years later I was sitting with some friends at lunch and they were all discussing this series they were adamant about. I still remember eating as I overheard things like "Mat and the Band of the Red Hand" and "Dragon Reborn" were mentioned. They even had a discussion on how much of a "Badass" Thom was. I can't believe I remember those things. Anyways, after we finished eating a friend dragged me to his dorm room and told me that he thought I would enjoy the series. He showed me his bookcase and I remember seeing he had all 9, you can tell this was a couple years ago as to how many books were in the series at the time, of the books in hardcover. He lent me the first one. I immediately shirked my studies and began to read it. I picked up a habit, from my days of reading the Harry Potter series, of reading a book all the way to the end in one sitting no matter how long it took.

Yet the first few chapters still weren't grabbing me like some books do. I promised myself to read the first 3 chapters no matter what. I figured if I didn't get hooked by then it was a futile effort. I still remember getting to the end of the 3rd chapter and thinking, "Ok. Let's see what happens next." Before long I was finishing the last page and thinking, "Well what does this mean?". I immediately ran to his room and borrowed the next book. I was hooked. By the time I finished the 4th in the series though, my friend moved. I lost my connection to this amazing world. Before he had sealed his last box I had already bought the next in the series online.

Since then, whenever I finished a book I had the next shipped to me. Because of this I still need to buy the first few books to complete my collection. I only own the entire series in E-book form. Oh and I realized that I already owned Eye of the World right as I finished that book. I was upset at myself, because I could have been enjoying this series much earlier on. I would still own it, but all my books were destroyed in a hurricane that year. Suffice it to say I no longer "judge books by their covers".

Well that's how I got started and now I'm a fan for life. I wish that the series didn't have to end, but I am looking forward to seeing it played out. Thanks for reading!

What a lovely story!

I honestly can't remember when and how I started reading the series, but I was hooked pretty soon. I normally get my books from the library, since I don't really have money to buy them, but luckily my ex is a lovely man, and after listening to me obsessing about the WoT world, he sent me the first few books as birthday and Christmas presents all the way from the USA, and then sent me the new ones as soon as they came out. The last 2 or 3 books I bought myself locally, since I was too impatient to wait for him to ship them

Anyhoo, welcome to DM! If you have any questions, feel free to ask - someone will know the answer, or will go call someone who does

I too enjoy listening ot stories of how people began wheel of time.

Ironically, I was looking for a short , 1 book story when I came across the Wheel. I thought it was one book, and the others were different stories altogether.

How wrong I was.

Anyway, enough bout me, welcome to Dragonmount! Enjoy your time here! I recommend checking out all the Social Groups and WoT discussion boards, you will find a great number of things weird and wonderful!

Welcome!

Yeah for me I got them from my local library, but they only had 1 and 3, so I had to wait forever every time I finished one for them to interlibrary loan the next one. For the last two, I just bought them lol. Surprisingly though, my library did get TGS. I'm not sure why though, considering they only have the first three besides that.

i read since i was small in every genre, read HP in high school, had started the books by jean m auel before that, and got into a fantasy series by a native author, so think combined they really were my entry door into fantasy proper, before that it was crime, drama, fictional stores of just about everything, of course the random fairytale for young people like narnia and such and i had read lotr. But i wasnt hooked on the fantasy genre as such or have a clue much about the specifics of it or such...but yeah after working through those 3 in more compressed time, rather then inbetween other books, i guess i got the taste for more, and i had a lot of freetime due to shift work in my job after high school, so i started going too the local libary, i think i read a couple other series before picking up the first in the wot series.

I wasnt hooked at first either, but an old book worm, not having something else in the house i hadnt read or wanted to reread atm, i figured i would just stick with it a bit longer (i found the whole thing confusing, it didnt fit together or make sence), i guess to try to see if for nothing else i could crack the code and figure out what the book was about before puting it away. Needless to say as it started to make sence it draged me in too and i got hooked, it went a couple years and i goten hold of the books inbetween in the waiting periods for them to get in i read other things, but after a couple years i owned the first ones late in the series, and was caugth up. Now i wanted to know when the next book came out, and i found DM, found the site browsed around it a bit, had something to do, went back a couple days later to read more up on the movie prelude thingy jason had had up as i hadnt been able to finish it...after that had time to spend, found the rp side forums, and found short stories from the world to read...

long story short, that was the doom of me, that and finding the offsite wt rp group boards, a chat link and a dude named narg and some other people, which made things seem a little less intimidating taking on joining instead of just reading from the shadows...

so basic gist, your not alone in not taking instantly too the books but then geting hooked, there are heaps of stories like that around here so you should fit right in...welcome around (oh and feel free to poketh me for questions, i also have messenger and love chating)
