Tinkers & ..The Song

LTT may have known the song... But I don't remember reading anywhere that he was a Treesinger or whatever. As I recall, it was the Aiel who were noted as having sung with the Ogier. That may be from the BWB.

And I believe there was some kind of musical ter'angreal- because I remember thinking it might contain the Song.

Firstly, a warning. Refrain from posting spoilers for ToM.

Secondly, this question Brandon was asked in the ToM book tour isn't really spoilerish, but I'll hide it just to be safe.

I asked Brandon whether or not Lews Therin knew The Song during the Age of Legends and drew a RAFO.

To be honest I just saw the tinkers attempt to reclaim The Song as more an attempt at the impossible - to go back to a better place in time. Much like an older person attempting to reclaim their youth in a time pre-bills and mortages by searching for a vinyl record of Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart (had the song in my head last few days, kinda surprised at how much of the lyrics I actually know btw).

So anyway, from that perspective I don't see them being overly successful just idealistic, this generation of Tinkers wouldn't recognise The Song, the original group of Tinkers only knew of it by stories of the Age of Legends. It's not as if the Aiel organise some sort of acapela group for the Tinkers and go, "So fellas, this is what we've got. It's an awesome song for growing plants and stuff. Sure, it's not the ONLY song to exist in the Age of Legends, but meh, lets give it a shot." Then the Tinkers go "Oh no no no, that's clearly the Hip Hop Club version of the original, we were after something with a Nym playing banjo and kazoo. Nice try though guys"

I thought Rand "knew the song" because of what he saw in the Pillars at Rhudiean, all the clan chiefs and wise ones do. Bit of irony that the ones who know the song are the ones who make it a point to avoid the Tinkers.

They don't necessarily know the songs. What one gets out of Rhuidean are snatches of a life; moments of time. Stepping through the pillars doesn't give you a full glimpse of everything that person knew, it only shows you that moment through their eyes and through their heart and it looks like the pillars intentionally focus on key moments in history that shaped who the Aiel have become. I don't think it's likely that any of those key moments involve singing The Song. In addition, it's quite likely that most of the bloodlines are connected that far back in history so most Aiel who go through the pillars would likely see the same memories that Rand saw.
