Audiobbook relase time?

Recommended Posts

Q.Q It wasn't up before i had to leave for work, so I bought it on Itunes, only to discover that It cannot be transfered to a non-ipod mp3 player even with 3rd party software specificaly designed to do just that. Something about the copy protection I've never run into before. I am truly sadface. Oh wells, I'll use my audible credit on it after work and be happy that the money went to a deserving product.

still, 9 hours of mindless data entry without a book to make the time pass quicker is going to be torture!

Anyone who is searching for this book online right now in the UK it is still not available.

I've been through the App store on iTunes and I can not get it in the UK and I can not get it from Audible.co.uk either and I can not get it from Tor themselves nor can I get it from Macmillan audio or any of the other companies involved.

So, for people finding this thread on Google - Towers of Midnight: Book 13 of The Wheel of Time is still unavailable on release day 2 Nov at 16:37 pm...

Which is a bit disappointing after so much was made of the release date. I'd prefer the Audio book and although I could go to a shop today and buy a hard back its not what I want to do if I can get the Audio book in the next wee while.

Although that's just my choice, its the people who need the audio book because of visual impairment that I feel sorry for.

Hey, thank you kindly y'all. I went for it. Didn't expect to lay my hands on the book until December, now I'm thrilled! Only problem is, I can't quote from an audio book. How am I to prove people's theories wrong like that?

I guess I'll finally learn to use Ideal Seek.

Anyone up for helping me to buy the book - I don't want to break any rules here so if that's not allowed then ok - but Tor have stated that it is supposed to be released today, so I don't see the problem with me getting the Audio book from the US even if I'm in the UK... So I could deposit the amount required for iTunes in USD into someone's pay pal if they'll gift me the book back in the US Store to my newly created US iTunes account...? Thanks

Users in the UK looking for an instant audio book download try Audible.de (the German site) and you will be able to buy. Frustration from using Google Translate to work out how the site works was absolutely nothing compared to frustration of being treated like second class customers by retailers. Euro-zone is where to go to buy the books, pretty sure it would work at all sites in Europe but didn't look into it as I knew it was out in English in Germany. Verified this by seeing it was Krammer reading.

Good luck to everyone. I've got 28 minutes remaining before the first part is downloaded then that's me going into radio silence for next few days.

- word of warning - don't panic if you can't get software to work, try another option. I had to choose audio cd download rather than listen to on my pc, its the same difference but took a while to figure out.

Good luck

Can't you log into audible.com? They didn't give me any grief over logging from a non-US IP.

Oh really? Where are you from?

I was getting a lot of confusing messages from the .com. I noticed their Tweet earlier on today, so got right on it, price was fluctuating between $55 and $63 which I thought was odd, maybe they hadn't figured out their pricing. Anyway, went through all the rigmarole of putting it into my cart and when I'd go to check out they'd remove it from my cart and tell me that its not for sale in my area. Which is the UK.

Really odd.

So I decided to try and get round that and went and got hide-my-ip from Cnet as I knew it would be virus free, did all the masking rubbish, and it still didn't work - so I figured that like iTunes it must be reading my billing address on my C'C card to figure out my location.

Was lucky to find the Audible.de thing, think me and my brother (who aught to get all the credit) are the only ones in the EU to be talking about it. I know this page ranks well on Google from all my searches today and thought that since I'm a member of the boards here I'd let others know.

But like you say - if it aught to work at Audible.com I think the price is a bit better (thanks to the Federal Reserve and exchange rates) and its an English site.

Good luck

Audible.com picks up your location from your card details. It looks as if you can just sign up to the .com site and get everything available there, but when you do the selection of books changes to those on .co.uk. I fell into that trap trying to get Way of Kings, as its not released in the UK until December.

Hey, You can buy stuff on audible.com with a credit card from any country. Just create an account on amazon.com and save your credit card information on that account, then sign into audble.com with your amazon ID. Your credit card will be available and you will be able to use it...

I am very happy this book is available on audible.com now. I have a subscription to their site and I consider it to be very good deal (one audiobook per month for about 10-15 bucks a month) - that sure beats a 55 dollar price for puchasing them one-off from any store. And its way better than itunes because you can listen to audible audiobooks on almost any device.

Heh, they may think they'll get more money, however, I'm canceling audible once I download it. I was a member since 08, but this is completely unacceptable.

I suggest you do the same. I tried to email them a complaint, and ironically yahoo decided to block my message. Just going to call in the AM and let them know they lost my business over this.

For those ticked about the late release I totally understand you but there's no way I'd cancel an audible subscription for that reason. There just isn't another way to get audiobooks for as cheap that are compatible on as many devices!

Perhaps call them, threaten to cancel and ask for them to compensate you with a free book or something and let us know if it works.

By the way, for those looking to get only the ToFM audiobook, there's a way to do that AND support Brandon Sanderson AND NOT PAY ANYTHING AT ALL!!!!!

Just go to: www.audiblepodcast.com/excuse and sign up for the free trial and download towers of midnight. Then cancel before the end of the 14 days free trial. You still get to keep the audiobook even though you cancelled the subscription.

www.audiblepodcast.com/excuse is the affiliate link for brandon's podcast about writing called "writing excuses" found at www.writingexcuses.com (great podcast for literary critiscism, learning more about the hosts brandon, dan and howard and for really good laughs. I'm not a writer but I like to listen to it. By signing up for the trial through this link, the podcast gets a small commission for your free trial signup.

I don't work with brandon or audible or anything, just a fan like you guys.

Pretty disappointed at Audible.co.uk not having ToM available. I'm fed up that being in the UK automatically means second class service. It's time these companies woke up and realised that in today's global society if you put barriers in the way of people trying to purchase in certain countries, they'll find a way to circumvent it either legitimately or otherwise. If they do the latter then not only have the company alienated a customer, they've lost a sale too.

(Sometimes it's utter corporate lunacy : An example -I've managed to buy audiobooks 1,2 & 4 of the Mode series by Piers Anthony. since I'm in the UK, I cannot buy number 3. Even emailing their Customer Services telling them I wanted to give them some money was ignored...)

In the meantime, I'm sitting, getting more and more hacked off at audible.co.uk ...

edit to add: Got up this morning to discover that Audible UK have now made TofM available

Its so frustrating. When I first started re-reading (or listening in this case) to the books I got to the end of book 7 and found that audible.co.uk did not have book 8. Books 9-11 were there but not 8. There was no reason for this. I emailed customer service and they said it was an oversight and it would take 2 weeks to put it up!!! I went straight to a torrent site and got it for free in about 30mins. Being honest I have subsequently paid for it legally, but they must of lost tons of sales that way.
