Where is Demandred - crazy, idle thought.

This is just a stupid thought I had sitting around a couple of days ago - don't take it serious, it's all meant in fun.

Demandred is in The Land of Madmen.

The majority of guesses I keep reading/hearing are w/ the Borderlanders or in Shara, but I serious doubt the former but will grudgingly accept the later.

In the tGS page 37 Graendal thinks that he likes having armies to command, but there are none left moving in the world.  Save perhaps the borderlanders.  But then she discounts it because her spies in that camp would have let her know something.

I feel that's a pretty good assumption on her part.  So far every single Chosen that has tried seizing power has went after established nations.  Illian, Andor, Seanchan, etc.  Rand has grown to acceot this pattern and seeks them out in places like that.

I have my own personal doubts about Shara.  I equate them with China in my head.  I think they just want to keep their borders sealed against the outside world and ride out TG as best as they can. Sure they'll meet the Shadow along the Blight and fight to hold back the Shadow, but they don't want allies and they don't want any questions (which if they went to war against Randland people would start asking why and that might lead to more foreign devils coming around until it's out of hand).

Page 40 Demandred says simply "My rule is secure.  I gather for war.  We will be ready".

Now here's my crazy reason for thinking this:  Demandred is gathering a force to fight TG.  What better army than a bunch of crazy, barbaric channelers that will kill you without batting an eye.  All he would have had to had done is go down there and start kicking the hell out of them until they were petrified of him and then say "I know the man who is responsible for your suffering, his name is Rand al'Thor, the Dragon Reborn.  Want to meet him?  Walk through that shiny hole in the air and him or his friends will be on the other side.  Feel free to do whatever you want to them".  And just that quick he sends a continent's worth of psycho channelers and "normal" people who are ruthless/crafty/mean enough to survive in that madhouse to Randland and gives them free reign.  It would be a slaughterhouse.  Plus it fits nicely into the whole "let the Lord of Chaos rule" thing.

So that's my crazy thought for the day.  Have fun with it.

i'm fairly certain Shara was based off of Africa since that's where the elephant skeleton came from and where the Giraffes were. I can't remember who saw one, but I remember at some point in the story someone seeing a giraffe (although they weren't called that in the book)

Also, the names have an african tribal sound to them. The Seanchan were the japanese/asian inspired culture.

And as far as demandred goes, where is the land of the madmen at? I don't remember any large gatherings of men who can channel other than the BT and most accept that taim is no longer demandred

Geographically, Shara is mostly based on Africa (Shara - Sahara....). Culturally, it is more based on China, with the silk production and closed cities.

The Land of Madmen is not mentioned at all in the books, only in the BWB. hich makes it extremely unlikely that Demandred (or anyone else for that matter) would be playing there. You can not just throw in an army from nowhere, and expect the readers to accept it.

Exactly. RJ is a master of foreshadowing, but for him to not even mention the Land of Madmen in the series suggests that that location will not make an appearence, especially involving someone as important as Demandred.
