where they came from?

We know what they DO. We know their Purpose - What they are for. (To allow Rand, Mat and Perrin a limited form of Tav'eran Telepathy, as well as providing an urgent reminder to the 3 that they need to start pulling back towards each other since TG is fast approaching).

But, we still don't know about what caused them to come into being. What made them?

The Wheel itself?

The Pattern?

A Natural side effect of THREE Tav'eran as powerful as Mat, Perrin and Rand being in the world at the same time?

The Creator?...who we know does not Directly involve himself but might be IN-Directly putting a hand in?

A ''Bubble of Good''?? ... Actually, hey, thats an interesting thought: We know all about The Bubbles of Evil ... Did Mr Jordan ever get a chance to say if the Pattern might spin out any Bubbles of GOOD to balance out the Evil Bubbles?

Hmmm...

My money's on Pattern/Creator -

fed up to the back bloody teeth of these morons that can't figure out how much easier their lives would be if they'd only hang around together a bit more, and talk about stuff -

trying to give a gentle nudge in the right direction.

Hopefully, we'll get something a little more forceful in TOM. Rand seems to be at ease with the colours keeping him generally appraised of Perrin & Mat's general wellbeing and whereabouts, but doesn't seem bothered with taking it further.

Aunt Pol ... (Love the name by the way; takes me back to younger and nicer memories :) )

I agree with you that it is probably a ''Balancing Factor'' spun out by The Patten.

I disagree with you about Rand being the most at ease with them.

I think Perrin controls them the best. When he was so single-mindedly focused on Faile's rescue, he had gotten GOOD at just Hammering straight through them.

Mat, they still seem to annoy hugely, and Rand seems to still get pretty angered by them...though, of course, lately, Rand gets angered by just about everything, lol!

No, I think Pol is right that Rand is the only one of them that has come to use the colors as means to keep tabs on the other two. If he'd like, he could probably just open a Gateway to wherever they are at the moment and summon them, so he doesn't worry about it right now. Mat, as you say, just gets annoyed every time, and Perrin tries to ignore them.

Ok heres a random one.

Rands will affects the Pattern, TGS made it pretty clear. Could it be that when he became Ta'veren that Pattern-effecting will created the connection to Mat and Perrin due to Rand not wanting to be alone in their journey? Half of the stuff Rands will did to the Pattern in TGS was subconsciouss.

Hi Yoniyo ... Well, I still disagree about who handles the swirls better, lol.

One interesting thing about your remarks concerning gateways.

I think that almost came back to bite and in the YOU-KNOW-WHAT.

By the time he probably DID need to just open a Gateway and go snatch Mat and (especially) Perrin, he was so out of his mind that he wouldn't do it on his own and any suggestion by anyone else to do so would just have made him paranoid and suspicious and made him determined to NOT do it.

@the fisher king: *curtsies*

Yeah Rand's a contrary fecker, alright, but he did seem fairly ok about letting Nyn know he had the means to ascertain where Perrin was.

Poor Perrin would only have paid attention to the colours if they somehow showed him how to rescue his wifey. Smashing through them isn't being at ease - it's putting the world on hold, really.

And Mat told Thom, (and Noal and Olver too, IIRC?) I believe, because he prob would've burst if he didn't tell someone about his whole ridiculous story. I'd say Mat thinks the colours are small potatoes compared to having freaky Finnfolk rummaging round in your head.
