You guys were just bad at FF.

First, you were probably too low in level when you faced Dragonificent. Second, you're supposed to climb up on top of her back and attack from there, like with Cerberus. She drops a lot faster that way, especially if you're using Strike Raid or one of the other Keyblade abilities.

 

Quickenings were so useless. I made it the whole way through my first play-through of FFXII and only ended up using quickenings once as a way to finish off Zodiark. Likewise the Espers were utterly unnecessary. I summoned Belias once, to get rid of Orthros quickly, and never needed another one again.

"Played more like I would expect FF to play", that's bullcrap anyway, FF hasn't come closer to that kind of gameplay than Crisis Core. They still use a variant of a turn-based system as opposed to KH's real-time hack-and-slash. And the Reaction Command system is most definitely not a Quicktime Event, because it's implemented seamlessly into actual combat gameplay, instead of being shoehorned in as a substitution for it.

I've never played either of those. Probably PC versions of each, but I never trust my computer's capabilities enough to use it for gaming, even now that I have a pretty decent one.

Oh, I don't have a lot of consoles, only the N64 and Wii, so I use my computer for gaming, albeit I haven't had a decent one for that long either, so I feel your pain there.  Up till mid last year, I was using one that was 11 yrs old Sony Vaio.

Sound Blaster Audigy 2zs.

 

Which means, that only the RAM was keeping it alive till the Dual cores came out and I upgraded.

Yeah stats don't mean a whole lot to me. All I know is I have 3GB of RAM, 500GB of disk space, and an Athlon II dual core processor.
