Newbie with what is more than likely a stupid question....

I've owned the WoT saga for a couple of decades, but never got past the The Shadow Rising, despite continuing to buy the books when they were released.  When I discovered they were available on CD in an unabridged format, I sank an unbelievable amount into getting the collection and the hubby and I are soaking them up as fast as they can be played.  I have what is probably a really stupid question with an obvious answer, but everytime I've thought something was obvious before, Jordan's thrown me for a loop...

I'm currently listening to CoT and Elza is a bit dissapointed that none "of her own heart" traveled to Cairhien with the Warders.  Is that another phrase for her Ajah or something more specific to the Black?

Thanks!

hmm.

I hope this isn't a spoiler, but since you mentioned the black, I assume you know.

Heart is what the black sisters who know each other are called.

So you have lots of black sisters out there, they're broken into hearts, which are groups of like 3 Aes Sedai who know each other.

That way if they are ever caught, only 2 names can be tortured out of them.

They report to their higher ups while bound, or in someway blinded, so they can never divulge the identity of their superiors.

I'm not sure what book heart is explained, but the rest of that info you pick up in pieces along the way.

Just in case you get disappointed by that book, you should be warned that CoT is the worst, in my opinion, of the entire series.

Knife of Dreams, which I think is the next one is WAY better. so don't be discouraged to keep reading.

Thank you!!  That's explains everything for me.  CoT does seem to drag through, but it has enough of Egwene's story to keep me interested while teasing me with bits of the other characters' stories to motivate me.  It helps that I'm listening to the stories while doing other things too.  *grin*

There are no stupid questions, only stupid questioners... and in my opinion, this post is the result of neither. Good catch for a self-professed 'newbie' in my opinion, and an excellent question.

They prefer to be called the Hand of the Light.  I think they get rather pissy if you call them Questioners to their faces, hehe
