Character History:

Dylan was the second son of a successful innkeeper in Tar Valon.  The inn, Cair Rahien(Golden Dawn), was one of the oldest in the city and had remained in

the Ablard family through all the years and countless generations.  It was a few streets removed from the major thoroughfares but very close to the Tower, with a large courtyard but no buildings between it and the Tower wall, so it was well situated to cater to locals and well as tourists. Over the years the family had done quite well and the inn had expanded both its footprint and height.  The family now lived in rooms on the fifth floor and Dylan spent most of his childhood sitting on his balcony and looking over the Tower wall to watch the Guard training.  He dreamed of one day joining them, and with an older brother to inherit the family business Dylan was free to pursue that dream.

So, on his sixteenth birthday he'd enrolled as a trainee and was accepted into the Guard two years later.  For ten years he served dutifully,

but never excelled.  He was an average soldier of average skill.  His strength was his listening skills that earned him the respect and friendship of his comrades.

So it was that the party celebrating his ten year anniversary with the Guard was one of the largest gatherings the inn had ever hosted.  It was a joyous occasion, and it warmed the hearts of both Dylan and his family to see so many gather to celebrate his friendship and service.  Unfortunately, fate took hold that night and their joy was turned to sorrow.  A storm came rolling in during the party, the worst storm seen in the city in years. Lightning struck in the middle of the party and the inn caught fire. The fire was quick and effective, it soon consumed the entire inn.  Most were able to escape, but among those few killed were Dylan's father and brother.  With no other relatives in the city, and his mother suffering from debilitating depression, Dylan retired from the Guard to rebuild the inn with his two younger sisters.

Now, two years later, they are ready to open their doors again.
