* “Survivor” hit a season high with a dramatic but unusually vote-free episode.

* “Grey’s Anatomy” rebounded slightly to hit its second-worst rating ever.

* “The Office” rose to solidify its status as NBC’s top-rated scripted series. “30 Rock,” which also rose, is number-two in that category.

* “Parks and Recreation” matched its season high in 18-49. “Parks” and “Community” on Friday earned the “back nine” episode orders that will carry both series to May.

* NBC was hoping “The Jay Leno Show” would improve when its competition went into repeats, but “Leno” actually matched its Thursday low in 18-49 against a “Mentalist” rerun.

* “FlashForward” fell to third place in the 8 p.m. slot thanks to Fox switching from “Bones” to baseball.

* “The Jeff Dunham Show” immediately became Comedy Central’s most-watched series.

Previous Fridays’ cable:

(1.2) (1.1) (----) (1.1) Psych

(1.0) (1.1) (----) (1.1) Monk

(0.9) (1.0) (0.9) (----) Stargate SGU

(0.6) (----) (----) (0.9) College Football

(0.6) (0.7) (----) (----) Sanctuary

* “Medium,” from "Moonlighting" mastermind Glenn Gordon Caron, hit its season high and retook its spot as Friday’s highest-rated show in 18-49. Timeslot competitors “Ugly Betty” and “Dollhouse” fell. CBS’ other psychic drama, “Ghost Whisperer,” still won the night in total viewers.

* “Betty,” whose 2009 premiere fell 58% percent from its 2008 premiere, managed to fall another 14%, but it is no longer the lowest-rated show on ABC. That distinction belongs to “Supernanny,” whose 2009 premiere was down 27% from its 2008 premiere.

* Back from baseball hiatus, “Dollhouse” hit a new series low. (Or did it? The sci-fi drama hit a 0.8 in overnights three weeks ago but was upgraded to a 0.9 when its final score arrived two days later. Stay tuned.) The series' next new episode arrives in December, and it's a Glau-packed doozy!

* An appearance by Michelle Obama gave “Leno” its first Friday uptick.

0.2 (0.2) (0.2) (0.2) (0.3) (0.3) Lincoln Heights

(4.4) (5.0) (5.4) (5.8) (6.7) House

Figures in grey represent repeats.

* The big news is “Leno” matched its series low in 18-49 against a repeat of “CSI Miami” – this despite lead-in “Trauma” climbing a bit this week. NBC had hoped that “Leno” would improve as its scripted competition went into repeats. The opposite has proven the case.

* “One Tree Hill” matched “Leno” in 18-49, hitting a season high.

* ABC’s “Castle” also hit its season high, but it’s unclear whether it did because “CSI Miami” was a repeat or because Nathan Fillion dressed up like “Firefly” captain Mal Reynolds for Halloween

0.4 (0.7) (0.7) (0.9) (0.8) (0.8) Melrose Place

(----) (3.8) (3.3) (3.1) (3.5) Hell’s Kitchen

* Despite following Tuesday’s highest-rated show and competing against a repeat of CBS’ “Good Wife,” “Leno” again matched its Tuesday low in 18-49. In terms of total viewers, “Leno” (6.056 million) lagged both “Forgotten” (8.258 million) and the “Wife” repeat (9.338 million).

* Fox’s original “90210” and “Melrose Place” were notorious for weak repeat performance, and the CW’s highly serialized sequels seem to have the same problem.

NBC announced late Wednesday that it’s canceling its pricey but low-rated paramedic drama “Trauma,” and upping its current episode order for “Chuck.”

“Chuck’s” third-season order has grown from 13 installments to 19.

“Trauma” will cease production after its 13th episode. While it consistently pulls better ratings than "The Jay Leno Show," it costs considerably more to produce.

Figures in grey represent repeats.

* The World Series game was the highest-rated opener in five years and the highest-rated game in two years.

* Bravo’s “Top Chef” beat “Leno” in 18-49 for the first time.

* The CW's "America's Next Top Model" pulled a better 18-49 number than a Wednesday edition of "Leno" for the first time. If I remember correctly, this is the first time a CW show beat a "Leno" airing the same night.

* “Leno” maintained its Wednesday low against a repeat of “CSI: NY.”

* The new Wednesday repeat of “Vampire Diaries” is not getting much repeat business.

* Everyone appears to be losing interest in FX's "Nip/Tuck," which far lags sister show "Sons of Anarchy."

* “Mercy,” pre-empted by the “Monsters Vs. Aliens” special this week, got a full first-season order last week.

Figures in grey are for repeats.

* The second Yankees-Phillies game was the most-watched second World Series game since 2004.

* CBS’ “CSI” hit a series low, and is now firmly in third place behind ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” and NBC’s “The Office” at 9 p.m. (Crazily, "CSI" is now CBS' weak link between "Survivor" and "The Mentalist"!)

* “FlashForward” hit a series low. There’s now every likelihood Fox’s “Bones” – which has bounced between 2.7 and 3.0 in 18-49 this season – will push ABC’s sci-fi drama into third place at 8 p.m. when it returns.

* “Leno” hit a new Thursday low. The only show on the Big Five networks pulling a lower 18-49 than “The Jay Leno Show” on Thursday nights is The CW’s “Supernatural,” now just a tenth of a point lower.

* “The Jeff Dunham Show” imploded in its second week, plummeting from a 2.2 to a 1.0 in 18-49. That could be the worst one-week drop all season.

* “The Mentalist” for the first time tied “Private Practice” in 18-49 at 10 p.m. In total viewers, the CBS drama is way ahead of the ABC drama 15.5 million to 9.1 million.

* The CW’s top show, “The Vampire Diaries,” is closing in on NBC, and close to moving from fifth place to fourth place at 8 p.m.

* A key reason The CW didn’t overtake NBC at 8 p.m. is “Community’s” Batman-infused Halloween episode posted its best 8 p.m. rating to date.

* “Vampire” tied “Parks and Recreation” in 18-49 at 8:30, though “Parks” remains well ahead in total viewers.

* FX’s “Sunny” hit a season low. “The League” had a miserable kickoff.

(0.5) (0.6) (0.7) (----) (----) Sanctuary

(0.4) (0.6) (----) (----) (0.9) College Football

* “The Jay Leno Show” hit a 1.2 in overnights once before, but was upgraded in the final nationals to 1.3. If the 1.2 holds, this is the worst “Leno” has ever done in 18-49.

* “Supernanny” jumped in its second week, returning “Ugly Betty” to its status as the lowest-rated show on ABC.

* “Smallville” hit its season high. Every new episode aired on The CW this week weirdly and inexplicably hit a season high:

2.0 (0.9) (1.8) (1.7) (1.6) (1.7) The Vampire Diaries

1.6 (1.4) (1.4) (1.5) (1.5) (1.3) America’s Next Top Model

1.2 (1.1) (1.2) (1.1) (1.2) (1.0) Gossip Girl

1.2 (1.1) (1.1) (0.9) (0.9) (0.9) Smallville

* A repeat of “House” easily beat this season's best first-run Friday scores for “Dollhouse,” “Brothers” and “‘Til Death.” “Dollhouse” is now expected to burn off episodes 2.5 through 2.10 over three Friday nights in December, then episodes 2.11 through 2.13 in January. Enjoy it while it lasts.

* CBS won Friday handily, but "Medium" hit its season low with a Halloween episode repurposing footage from George Romero's original "Night of the Living Dead."

Figures in grey represent repeats.

* Monday brought the best-rated Game 5 of the World Series since 2003.

* “Dancing With The Stars” hit a season low.

* “Accidentally on Purpose” dipped a bit but still held enough of “HIMYM’s” audience to score a Tuesday order for five more first-season episodes.

* Despite slight improvements at “Heroes” and newly cancelled “Trauma,” “Leno” remained at its all-time nadir. Observe the huge drop-off between "Trauma's" 2.1 and "Leno's" 1.2. Jay needs to think about scaling back on those “Ghosting” segments.

0.4 (0.3) (0.3) (0.3) (0.5) (----) Bored To Death

* A regular old football game still outdrew the World Series on Sunday.

* "Cold Case" and "Three Rivers" both hit season lows despite a strong lead-in from "The Amazing Race."

* “Dexter” hit another series high and remains Showtime’s highest-rated show ever. It’ll be interesting to see if “Weeds” leapfrogs it again next summer.

* “Mad Men” saw an uptick with its penultimate season-three episode.

* Viewers don’t seem to like “Girls Next Door” as much since the most attractive one, Kendra Wilkinson, left for her own show.

I need more Flight!!!!

It's looks like Jemaine and Bret may be stuck on that New Zealand sheep farm for eternity.

HBO wants more “Flight of the Conchords,” but writer-producer-composer-star Jemaine Clement told Reuters it may never get a third season because “it’s so hard” to produce.

"It very likely might not," he said. "We've got to write the series, but we've also got to write the songs, and just dividing your time into those two writing tasks is really tricky."

Clement says a decision on a third season will be made in the next month. (Is he waiting, I wonder, to see if his starring role in “Gentleman Broncos” brings him more big-screen work?)

He didn’t rule out returning to HBO in a special or series of specials.

Figures in grey represent repeats.

* “V” edged out Fox’s “The Cleveland Show” to give ABC fall’s biggest series premiere, and the network’s biggest series premiere since “Private Practice” two years ago.

* Did Jay drop the green car segment? “Leno” enjoyed its first Tuesday uptick ever, and even beat “The Forgotten” in 18-49. This was also Leno’s best score on any night in four weeks.

* “The Good Wife,” while still dominant at 10 p.m., hit another series low.

* BET’s “Monica: Still Standing” endured a “Jeff Dunham Show”-like second-week plummet.

CBS’ has cut “Numb3rs’” sixth-season order from 22 to 16, suggesting the procedural may be on its last legs.

The Rob Morrow vehicle launched 19% lower in September than it did at the start of its fifth season, and has slipped further since. It remains the weakest of CBS’ Friday night dramas in the 18-49 demo (older ratings in parentheses):

2.0 (2.1) (2.0) (2.2) (1.7) (2.3) Ghost Whisperer

1.9 (2.1) (1.9) (2.0) (1.9) (2.1) Medium

1.7 (1.8) (1.8) (1.6) (1.6) (1.8) Numb3rs

“Numb3rs” is CBS’ third-lowest-rated series, after Saturday’s “48 Hours Mystery” and Sunday’s new (and likely doomed) medical drama “Three Rivers.”

CBS could replace “Numb3rs” with the recently renewed Toronto-set cop drama “Flashpoint.” Because the “Flashpoint” is produced by and for Canada’s CTV network, it’s likely a lot cheaper for CBS to license than “Numb3rs.”

0.7 (0.6) (----) (----) (----) (----) (----) Vampire Diaries

Figures in grey represent repeats.

* This year’s World Series was the highest-rated in five years.

* “Leno,” which got a slight bump with Michelle Obama, hit a new Wednesday low with former first lady Laura Bush.

* 10 p.m. shows that beat “Leno” include not only “CSI: NY” and “Eastwick” but also Comedy Central’s “South Park,” with a literally redefining episode.

* The CW’s “America’s Next Top Model” petite edition (I think the “fat one” tops out at 88 pounds) hit a personal best, nabbing a better 18-49 score than such Big Four Wednesday shows as “Eastwick,” “Hank” and “Leno.”

* Besides the Wednesday edition of “Leno,” series hitting new first-run season lows against the World Series included “Gary Unmarried,” “Criminal Minds,” “CSI: NY,” “Hank,” “The Middle,” “Cougar Town,” “Eastwick,” “SVU,” and “Mercy” (in its first airing since earning a full first-season order).

0.6 (0.6) (0.7) (0.5) (----) (----) (----) (----) Tosh.0

Figures in grey represent repeats.

* “Mentalist” soundly beat in 18-49 for the first time “Private Practice,” which keeps bleeding the demo while “Mentalist” stays strong. Total viewers in millions at 10 p.m.:

16.21 The Mentalist

09.10 Private Practice

04.83 The Jay Leno Show

02.58 The Real Housewives of Orange County

01.99 It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia

01.20 Tosh.0

* “Bones” tied “FlashForward” for the first time in 18-49 and beat it in overall viewers.

* With “Flashforward” and “Bones” both hitting new lows, “Survivor” again dominates at 8 p.m. in both 18-49 and total viewers. Total 8 p.m. viewers in millions:

12.43 Survivor

08.66 Bones

08.57 FlashForward

05.45 Community

02.64 Supernatural

02.34 The Jeff Dunham Show

* A Swanson-packed “Parks and Recreation” (4.91 million total viewers at 8:30) hit its 18-49 season high; “Community” hit its best 8 p.m. number in the same demo. If “FlashForward” keeps bleeding demo at this rate, it could soon find itself fourth in its timeslot with “Vampire Diaries” licking as its heels.

* “Fringe,” back after a baseball hiatus, hit a new series low. Hopefully upcoming episodes featuring Massive Dynamic and The Observers will remind fans it’s still on. (Note to Fox publicity: keep sending those screeners!!) Lead-in “Bones” also hit a season (series?) low in 18-49. Total 9 p.m. viewers in millions:

15.60 CSI

13.95 Grey’s Anatomy

08.09 The Office

04.85 Fringe

04.09 Vampire Diaries

02.44 Real Housewives of Atlanta

* “Leno” enjoyed another rare uptick, but Thursday was the second night in a row it scored substantially lower in 18-49 than a CW show (“Top Model” Wednesday; “Vampire” Thursday). (Which means the only Big Five primetime show beaten by the former king of late night was “Supernatural.”)

Friday 18-49 overnights (previous weeks' finals in parentheses):

2.7 (1.7) (1.6) (2.0) (1.5) (1.7) (2.3) 20/20

1.9 (----) (----) (----) (----) (----)(----) Law & Order (9 p.m.)

1.8 (1.7) (1.8) (1.8) (1.6) (1.6) (1.8) Numbers

1.8 (1.4) (1.5) (1.6) (1.5) (1.2) (1.2) Law & Order (8 p.m.)

1.8 (2.0) (2.1) (2.0) (2.2) (1.7) (2.3) Ghost Whisperer

1.8 (1.9) (2.1) (1.9) (2.0) (1.9) (2.1) Medium

1.3 (1.1) (1.2) (1.4) (----) (----) (----) Ugly Betty

1.3 (1.3) (1.1) (----) (----) (----) (----) Supernanny

1.2 (1.2) (1.4) (1.3) (1.4) (1.4) (1.6) The Jay Leno Show

1.2 (----) (----) (----) (----) (----) (----) Bones

1.2 (1.1) (----) (----) (----) (----) (----) House

1.2 (1.1) (1.1) (1.1) (0.9) (0.9) (0.9) Smallville

0.5 (0.4) (0.5) (0.6) (0.5) (0.5) (0.5) America’s Next Top Model

* Look for this post to be updated late Monday with cable and broadcast finals. There are so many ties, the rankings could look very different on Monday when the final Friday scores arrive. “Smallville,” for example, hit a 1.2 in last week’s overnights, but was downgraded to 1.1 in the finals. That said:

* “20/20” won the night and scored a season high with Diane Sawyer’s interview of knocked-around befeathered songstress Rihanna. But.

* The big story, I say, is a special 9 p.m. edition of “Law & Order” was (again, if the finals bear out the overnight scores) the night’s top drama, beating typical Friday champs “Ghost Whisperer” and “Medium.” While “L&O” is still a shadow of its former self (and the lowest-rated NBC show besides “Dateline” and “Leno”), this is a shocking reversal.

* The two new episodes of “L&O” Friday gave the series by far its two highest scores of the season.

* Depressingly for fans of any component of Fox’s regular Friday line-up, repeats of “House” and “Bones” outscored every first-run episode of “Brothers,” “‘Til Death” and “Dollhouse” broadcast on a Friday this season.

* Despite a first-place 1.9 lead-in from “L&O,” “Leno” for the third time in eight days hit its all-time low of 1.2 in 18-49:

1.2 (1.3) (1.4) (1.5) (1.5) (1.7) (1.8) (5.3) Mon

2.0 (1.8) (1.8) (1.8) (2.1) (2.3) (2.5) (3.4) Tue

1.4 (1.5) (1.5) (1.8) (1.7) (1.9) (2.0) (3.5) Wed

1.6 (1.5) (1.6) (1.8) (1.7) (1.6) (1.7) (2.7) Thu

1.2 (1.2) (1.4) (1.3) (1.4) (1.4) (1.6) (2.2) Fri

* “Numbers,” which just had its sixth-season order cut by six episodes (signaling, many suspect, that it’s not likely to get asked back for a seventh season), ironically caught up with sister shows “Ghost Whisperer” and “Medium” in 18-49 for the first time this season, and beat them both in total viewers. (Again again, we’ll see how things shake out when the final Friday scores arrive on Monday.)

* If Monday’s finals don’t again downgrade “Smallville’s” 1.2 to a 1.1, the show hit its season peak in 18-49. For those asking if a slight rebound in “Smallville” ratings guarantees the show a 10th season, I’m inclined to point out a few facts:

a) “Smallville” likely remains (thanks in part to Tom Welling’s salary) The CW’s most expensive shows to produce.

b) It’s now dead last among Friday’s weak field of Big Five first-run shows and sometimes even lags Friday cable fare like “Monk” and “White Collar.” Even if Friday’s 1.2 sticks, “Smallville” also remains among The CW’s lowest-rated series:

CW first-run current season averages in 18-49:

1.76 The Vampire Diaries

1.49 America’s Next Top Model

1.23 Supernatural

1.13 One Tree Hill

1.11 Gossip Girl

1.10 90210

1.03 Smallville (assuming Friday’s 1.2 sticks)

0.78 Melrose Place

c) According to the overnights, “Smallville” (now in season nine) garnered 2.76 million viewers Friday; that’s a long way under the 4.76 million viewers per episode “Smallville” averaged during seasons one through eight (to say nothing of the series’ 6.3 million season-two peak).

d) Last season, when “Smallville” was pulling a substantially bigger audience, CW execs thought long and hard about replacing it with, among other things, “The Graysons” (a look at Batman when he was a boy).

0.3 (0.4) (0.3) (0.3) (0.3) (0.5) (----) Bored To Death

* “60 Minutes” (featuring an interview with former hairpiece aficionado and methlete Andre Agassi) and “The Amazing Race” both hit season highs coming out of CBS’ football overrun

* The “Man Men” season finale hit its best number since its season premiere. (It’s still a pretty sad number for the best show on TV; more than twice as many tuned in to see an oversized Kardashian marry into the NBA.)

* “Desperate Housewives,” still Sunday’s top scripted show, hit an all-time series low. “Brothers & Sisters” hit a season low.

* “Family Guy,” “The Cleveland Show” and “American Dad” all made post-baseball returns and all hit season lows.

* The live-action special “Family Guy Presents Seth & Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show,” which bridged both new episodes of “Family Guy,” appeared to drag down all the network’s biggest Sunday hits.

Figures in grey represent repeats.

* For the first time on the same night two CW series pulled better 18-49 numbers than “Leno,” which on Monday matched its all-time low for the fourth time in 11 days. An executive with Atlanta-based Gray Television, which owns 10 NBC affiliates in Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Colorado, Nebraska, Florida, North Carolina, Mississippi and West Virginia , told analysts and investors he believes only the egos of NBC executives are keeping “Leno” on the air at this point.

* “Heroes” on Monday hit a new all-time series low.

* “CSI Miami” got a bump with its Monday episode, which launched a three-way crossover with “CSI and “CSI NY” this week.

* “Gossip Girl” hit its best number of the season with the promise of a Hilary Duff-fueled three-way.

ABC’s “Eastwick” will cease production after its 13th episode, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The network meanwhile has expanded its first-season order for “The Forgotten” by five episodes, but is apparently ditching "Forgotten" showrunner Lukas Reiter (“Close to Home,” “The Philanthropist”).

“Eastwick” was stronger in 18-49 than “The Forgotten” at the start of the season, but now “Forgotten” is the healthier of the two:

1.9 (2.0) (1.9) (2.0) (1.9) (2.0) (2.6) The Forgotten

1.5 (1.8) (1.6) (1.7) (1.8) (2.3) (3.0) Eastwick

"Forgotten" continues to define “bubble show.” The only primetime shows delivering worse ratings than "Forgotten" and "Eastwick" for ABC this season are “Supernanny” and “Ugly Betty.”
