What are you looking to get out of the site?  Are you mostly interested in the discussions, are you looking at joining the online community in the Orgs, or are you wanting to RP?

 

You can do any, and you can do all, here.  It's awesome. :)

 

If you're interested in joining some Orgs, I can offer a few suggestions. :D

Well, I can't help you with RP myself, but if you take a look around the RP boards, there should be threads on how to get started.  I also know a couple of people that would be happy to teach someone how to RP too! :D

 

Hm, as for Orgs.... They're my favorite part of DM, personally.  I love the community, and fun, and friendship.  Plus they give you goals to work for, if you like that sort of thing. ;)

 

I can give you a kind of overview of the Orgs we have (I know more about some than others, but I've visited all of them):

-First off, we have the Aiel Org.  Most people join because they really like the Aiel.  It follows a ji'e'toh system, but not as strictly as in the books; basically it emphasizes doing what you say you're going to do.  They're currently trying to figure out a new theme, because no one was interested in the old one.  It's one of the more quiet Orgs.

 

-The Band of the Red Hand Org is the Music and Travel Org.  Mostly Music, but Corki, the Org Leader, is trying to get Travel to be more incorporated, too.  You start out as a Raw Recruit, and work your way up through the ranks.  You can choose Infantry, Archers, or Cavalry. ;D  It's got a LOT of great people, and it's a fun Org.

 

-The Black Tower Org is the Games-themed Org (online gaming), but some orgs focus more on the theme than others.  In the Black Tower, it's mostly about mischief, mayhem, and lots of the Taint.  It's a lot of fun. ;D You earn points (easily, actually), and you purchase One Power levels, which is how you rank up.

 

-The Illuminators Org is the Arts and Crafts org, so to speak.  There's a writing/music side, and a crafts/visual arts side.  There's also collaborations, and the main focus is just on creating things and bettering yourself as a creator.  It's a nice place, if you like to make things.:D

 

-The Kin Org is the most lax as far as ranking up goes.  You earn points, but that comes over time, usually.  The Kin is my favorite place, because its focus is this: NO DRAMA, LOTS OF FUN AND CARING! It's a place to sit back, relax, and just be yourself.

 

-The Ogier is the Book Org.  It's kind of slow around there lately, but there are nice discussions going on.  As you rise through the levels, you can choose a trade, like Brewer, Deathwatch Guards, Singer, Speaker (I think those are the right ones).  They also have monthly book discussions, I think.

 

-The Seanchan is the Entertainment Org.  Movies, TV, anything like that, is discussed there, and it's a really fun atmosphere.  People like joking around too.  Don't take anything anyone says there TOO seriously.  Having said that, people there really love what they're talking about.  They put thought into what they say, in discussions, usually.

 

-Shayol Ghul, I don't remember what its official theme is.  But it's crazy, evil, and spammy.  Don't be offended if someone stabs you, that's the official greeting. :D

 

-The White Tower Org is the White Tower themed org. :D  You can choose to be either a Warder or an Aes Sedai, regardless of gender, and you start as a Novice/Algai, advance to Accepted/Manshima, and then you get raised to Aes Sedai/der'Manshima.  It's really fun; there's bondings, discussions, spam, EVERYTHING going on at the White Tower.  It's not appealing to everyone, but I personally enjoy the Org.

 

-The Wolfkin Org is a small little org, but consistently active.  You can enjoy discussions, you can enjoy being dunked in chili or the tequila lake, you can earn points and end up being a full wolf-brother or wolf-sister, with one of I think 3 different paths. :)

 

If you're just starting out, I'd suggest the Kin and the White Tower (we get a lot of newbies there so people are really welcoming).  But it all depends on what you're looking for....
