Moghediens Trip to Shayol Ghul in Crown of Swords

Okay. First off, this thread will write off any theories people have about Shaidar Haran radiating an anti-channeling field. In A Crown of Swords, page 460 paperback, Moghedien notes to herself that Shaidars strange shield was not there anymore. She still doesnt channel but she notes that she now can feel the Source. So Shaidar Haran doesnt stop anyone near him from channeling and thats that.

Secondly and more to the point, after the ordeal with Shaidar and Moghedien realising she has failed and whatnot, she thinks to herself "the True Power was denied her, of course" as if it she only just realised. Also, interestingly, when stood in the Pit of Doom a few pages earlier she noted that she could feel the True Power, that only a few knew how to channel it.

What does everyone think? Does this mean Moridin wasnt the only person allowed to use the True Power after all?

Were there theories suggesting this? He doesn't disrupt semirhage's channeling, or Sammael and Graendal's.... Were people confused on this issue?

That comment doesn't suggest that she just realised, but rather that it was obvious. The reason is in the comment... "The True Power was denied her, of course—that could be drawn only with the Great Lord's blessing"

She did not have the Great Lord's blessing. Indeed, she came damn close to him killing her. Thats the reason for the 'of course'.

Twenty nine individuals have been given access to the True Power in known history--only in recent times has that been restricted to Moridin alone, and most the Chosen do not care given the side effects.

Actually, I took that to mean that Shaidar Haran can block someone from touching the Source at will. It actually makes sense since he is the avatar of the Dark One.

RJ stated that he didnt considered an avatar to have the full power of its source, which Shaidar doesnt. shaidar isnt the Dark Ones avatar, RJ said the words himself.

You know what, I can see now that rather than just noticing, she was taking note that she no longer had the Great Lords blessing.

Yes some were, I remember skimming through some oldish threads and noticing some people saying they believe Shaidar is the perfect anti-channeler because people couldnt channel around him. Thats why I put the first paragraph in

Jordan's actual words were:

I am not certain you can really call him an avatar because I generally think of an avatar as having exactly the same powers as, and it is not: Shaidar Haran does not have nearly as much power as the Dark One. It’s as though the Dark One is able to project a shadowy form of himself into this creature…it is the Dark One in shadowy form

So while Shaidar Haran is not the Dark One's avatar, per se, there still is a very strong connection between the two. Also, Haran can smell saidin and saidar so it definitely makes sense that he can negate them.

First of all, this just proves even more that Forsaken are even more stupid than I thought. Second, the Do is a big effing a-hole! Yeah I know someone who fails should be punished, but not like that! I sometimes I wish I could go into the prison and go medieval on his behind to show him some manners!

Actually the current Chosen are getting off easy - I think Demandred says that in the War of Power the DO killed a lot of the Chosen for SUSPECTING that they may have loyalty issues.  Here, we see that Cyndane, Moghedien and Messana are just punished (although it's a grave punishment).

It makes me wonder what will happen to Semirhage when she escapes.  I think she's going to escape.

the DO doesnt kill them cuz he is running out of chosen to kill.  29 is a lot more that 9

Exactly. And the whole point of encouraging his minions to compete is so only the strongest survive; what good would it be to then kill the strongest after they just killed the rest that came close?
